Cubic interactions of higher-spin gauge fields in (A)dSd(A)dSd are studied in the metric-like approach. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using proton and sodium magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to detect fluid accumulation produced by fludrocortisone and nifedipine - two drugs known to cause salt/water retention by different mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve young healthy male subjects were randomly assigned to one of two groups and treated with either fludrocortisone or nifedipine for 14 or 25 days, respectively. The change in sodium MRI, as well as in proton T(2) value and T(1)-weighted signal intensity in the calf following postural change [referred to here as 'postural delta signal'(PDS)], was evaluated before, during and after drug administration. The changes in MRI PDS were compared to conventional physiological parameters, including body weight, calf volume and pitting edema. RESULTS: When compared to the baseline pretreatment values, the subjects treated with fludrocortisone showed a 5.5% increase in sodium MRI PDS (P=.01), a 2-ms increase in proton T(2) PDS of the gastrocnemius muscle (P=.06) and a body weight gain of 2.3% (P=.001) within 1 week. In the nifedipine-treated subjects, the sodium MRI PDS increased by 6% versus baseline (P=.03), while the proton T(2) PDS of the gastrocnemius muscle increased by 3.7 ms (P=.01), associated with a 0.5% weight gain (P=.55), within 3 weeks. No significant changes were noted in the T(1)-weighed images following postural change. Measurements of calf circumference, volume and pitting edema did not show consistent changes associated with the drug administration. CONCLUSION: The postural change in sodium MRI and proton T(2) signals provides a sensitive method for detecting the fluid accumulation produced by fludrocortisone and nifedipine. The MRI results are consistent with treatment-induced increases in extracellular fluid volume and correlate well with the observed weight gain. These findings support the potential utility of MRI for the evaluation of medication-induced fluid retention.  相似文献

The pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is still unclear, and presently there is no cure for the disease that can be used for its treatment or to stop its progression. Here, we investigated the therapeutic potential of ramalin (isolated from the Antarctic lichen, Ramalina terebrata), which exhibits various physiological activities, in AD. Specifically, derivatives were synthesized based on the structure of ramalin, which has a strong antioxidant effect, BACE-1 inhibition activity, and anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, ramalin and its derivatives exhibit activity against multiple targets associated with AD and can serve as potential therapeutic agents for the disease.  相似文献

Microglia play a significant role in immune defense and tissue repair in the central nervous system (CNS). Microglial activation and the resulting neuroinflammation play a key role in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disorders. Recently, inflammation reduction strategies in neurodegenerative diseases have attracted increasing attention. Herein, we discovered and evaluated the anti-neuroinflammatory potential of compounds from the Antarctic fungi strain Aspergillus sp. SF-7402 in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated BV2 cells. Four metabolites were isolated from the fungi through chemical investigations, namely, 5-methoxysterigmatocystin (1), sterigmatocystin (2), aversin (3), and 6,8-O-dimethylversicolorin A (4). Their chemical structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and HR-ESI-MS, as well as by comparison with those reported in literature. Anti-neuroinflammatory effects of the isolated metabolites were evaluated by measuring the production of nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and interleukin (IL)-6 in LPS-activated microglia at non-cytotoxic concentrations. Sterigmatocystins (1 and 2) displayed significant effects on NO production and mild effects on TNF-α and IL-6 expression inhibition. The molecular mechanisms underlying this activity were investigated using Western blot analysis. Sterigmatocystin treatment inhibited NO production via downregulation of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression in LPS-stimulated BV2 cells. Additionally, sterigmatocystins reduced nuclear translocation of NF-κB. These results suggest that sterigmatocystins present in the fungal strain Aspergillus sp. are promising candidates for the treatment of neuroinflammatory diseases.  相似文献

A unique polymer matrix that is suitable for immobilizing growing cells has been developed. Alginate was chemically modified with polyethyleneimine (PEI), and the resultant polymer aggregate was evaluated as a cell carrier. Our method of immobilization depends on reversible gelation of the PEI-modified alginate. Our hypothesis is that immobilized cells grow by dissolving the surrounding gel matrix; the dissolved polymer adduct is displaced peripherally and gelled again by the influx of calcium ion from the surrounding fermentation broth, retaining both cells and carrier polymer in the gel beads. Thus, the immobilized cells gain space for growth by expanding the carrier matrix. The PEI modification offers the following advantages: (1) improved mechanical strength; (2) improved cell retention; (3) increased catalyst life; (4) ease of pelletization; and (5) an apparent bacteriostatic capability. When immobilized yeast cells were applied to a continuous ethanol fermentation, 94% theoretical conversion of glucose to ethanol was observed, with a reactor productivity of 15–30 g/L/h in a nonsterile reactor. A 3-mo catalyst life and minimal cell washout were observed.  相似文献

Bismuth‐based hybrid perovskites are candidates for lead‐free and air‐stable photovoltaics, but poor surface morphologies and a high band‐gap energy have previously limited these hybrid perovskites. A new materials processing strategy to produce enhanced bismuth‐based thin‐film photovoltaic absorbers by incorporation of monovalent silver cations into iodobismuthates is presented. Solution‐processed AgBi2I7 thin films are prepared by spin‐coating silver and bismuth precursors dissolved in n‐butylamine and annealing under an N2 atmosphere. X‐ray diffraction analysis reveals the pure cubic structure (Fd3m) with lattice parameters of a=b=c=12.223 Å. The resultant AgBi2I7 thin films exhibit dense and pinhole‐free surface morphologies with grains ranging in size from 200–800 nm and a low band gap of 1.87 eV suitable for photovoltaic applications. Initial studies produce solar power conversion efficiencies of 1.22 % and excellent stability over at least 10 days under ambient conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, the synthesis of 3‐aryl‐2,5‐dihydro‐1‐benzoxepines is described. While the reaction was started from phenol and based on the sequential reactions such as Claisen rearrangement, O‐alkylation, Wittig reaction, and ring‐closing metathesis (RCM), a series of new 3‐aryl‐1‐benzoxepines were prepared in good overall yields.  相似文献
