We present a systematic analysis of electron transport characteristics of carbon nanotube (CNT) intramolecular heterojunctions with peptide linkages, MM, SS, SM1, and SM2 where M and S stand for metallic and semiconducting CNT electrodes, respectively. Our theoretical investigations show that the incorporation of peptide linkages and their associated dipole moments play an important role in determining the electron transport characteristics and lead to materials with unique properties, such as Schottky-like behavior. Furthermore, we show that the Schottky-like behavior is observed in our SM1 junction but not in the SM2 junction because of the different effects that arise from both the direction and strength of their dipole moments. We believe that our results will pave the way towards the design and implementation of various electronic logic functions based on carbon nanotubes for applications in the field of nanoelectronics. 相似文献

Directional growth of tetrahydrofuran (THF) clathrate hydrates was studied in a mixture of glass beads and a stoichiometric THF-water solution. Results showed that disseminated pore space type hydrates formed in a mixture containing 50-microm beads. However, a pure hydrate layer formed pushing the beads in a mixture containing 2-microm beads (frost heaving of hydrates). As the growth proceeded, new layers were formed repeatedly, leading to the eventual formation of a periodic layered pattern. It was found that as the growth rate increased, both the thickness of a hydrate layer and the interval between the neighboring layers decreased according to power laws. The effects of the applied temperature gradient and the weight ratio of the solution and glass beads were also systematically studied. Further, the possibility of applying our model experiments to the formation of natural methane hydrates was discussed. 相似文献

The heterotrich ciliate Blepharisma japonicum produces red pigment blepharismins, which function as self-defense toxin against predators and as a photoreceptor for step-up photonegativity. The dibenzoperylenequinone moiety of blepharismins was shown to be biosynthesized via the polyketide pathway. In this paper, the starter units of the biosynthetic pathway of blepharismins were determined to be isovaleryl-CoA and butyryl-CoA by HPLC, LC/ESI-MS, and 1H and 2H NMR analyses of the pigments obtained from feeding experiment of l-leucine or sodium butyrate in excess and deuterium-labeled l-leucine. 相似文献

Trace elements such as Sc, lanthanoids, Th and U were determined by means of instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA)
in marine sediment core samples collected from 5 coastal areas in western Japan mainly facing the Pacific. The origin of the
coastal sediments and the sedimentary environment are discussed in terms of such parameters as the La*/Lu* and Ce*/La* ratios,
the Th/Sc ratios and the Th/U-Ce/U plot obtained from the analytical data. In particular, it was confirmed that the Th/U-Ce/U

A sensitive liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometric (LC-ESI-MS/MS) method for the simultaneous determination of five 3-oxo-4-ene-neuroactive steroids, i.e. androstenedione, testosterone (T), progesterone (PROG), 20alpha-dihydroprogesterone and 20beta-dihydroprogesterone, in rat brain has been developed and validated. The brain steroids were extracted with methanol-acetic acid, purified using solid-phase extraction cartridges and subjected to LC-ESI-MS/MS. The method does not require derivatization. Deuterium-labeled T and PROG were used as the internal standards, and quantification was based on the selected reaction monitoring mode. This method allowed the reproducible and accurate quantification of the brain neuroactive steroids using 100 mg of tissue; the intra- and inter-assay relative standard deviations were below 4.7 and 4.3%, respectively, and the accuracy values were 97.6-103.2% for all the steroids. The limits of quantitation were 0.1 ng/g tissue for all the steroids. The application of this developed method for the analysis of changes in the brain neuroactive steroid levels by immobilization stress is also presented. 相似文献

Reductive amination reaction using 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (AMC) as a fluorescent probe enabled analyses of glycoproteins' monosaccharides and N-linked oligosaccharides. Reductive amination of N-acetylhexosamines and AMC using sodium cyanoborohydride or dimethylamine-borane complex indicated slight recovery of derivatives, but pyridine-borane achieved better recoveries. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analyses of monosaccharides constituting glycoprotein glycans using fluorimetric detection revealed linearity for 0.2fmol to 1pmol, with less than 5% RSD quantitation reproducibility. Reversed-phase HPLC analyses of glycoprotein glycans, combined with negative-ion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS), enabled their structural determination. Using this highly hydrophobic reagent, AMC-labeled oligosaccharides displayed one-order to two-order higher ESI-MS intensity than derivatives labeled using other reagents. 相似文献

Nitrogen isotope enrichment experiments were conducted to obtain highly enriched (15)N by ion-exchange process. (15)NH(4)Cl ((15)N=80%) as feeding materials were used to perform the chromatographic operation with two different flow rates and column diameters. Both separation coefficient (epsilon) and height equivalent to a theoretical plate (HETP) have same values in two run experiments. The value of HETP was more enlarged when high enrichment of (15)N was obtained in comparison with that of low enrichment. 99.756% (15)N and 13.63 g (15)N whose percentage was over 99.0% were successfully achieved by 25 m chromatographic migration with the flow rate and column diameter at 50 cm(3)/mL, 3.0 cm, respectively. High flow rate and large column diameter have advantages to the enrichment of (15)N by ion exchange process. 相似文献

Pyrrole-imidazole polyamide (PIP) is a nuclease-resistant novel compound that inhibits gene expression through binding to the minor groove of DNA. Human aurora kinase-A (AURKA) and -B (AURKB) are important regulators in mitosis during the cell cycle. In this study, two specific PIPs (PIP-A and PIP-B) targeting AURKA and AURKB promoter regions were designed and synthesized, and their biological effects were investigated by several in vitro assays. PIP-A and PIP-B significantly inhibited the promoter activities, mRNA expression, and protein levels of AURKA and AURKB, respectively, in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, 1:1 combination treatment with both PIPs demonstrated prominent antiproliferative synergy (CI value [ED(50)] = 0.256) to HeLa cells as a result of inducing apoptosis-mediated severe catastrophe of cell-cycle progression. The novel synthesized PIP-A and PIP-B are potent and specific gene-silencing agents for AURKA and AURKB. 相似文献

In the present work, a rapid and novel method of on-target plate derivatization of keratan sulfate (KS) oligosaccharides for subsequent analysis by matrix-assisted laser desorption and ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry is described. MALDI-(time-of-flight)-TOF spectra of labeled KS oligosaccharides revealed that significantly improved ionization can be accomplished through derivatization with pyrenebutyric acid hydrazide (PBH), and the most abundant peak in each spectrum corresponds to the singly charged molecular ion [M - H]- or [M + (n - 1)Na - nH]-, where n = the number of sulfates (n = 1, 2, 3...). The high-energy collision-induced dissociation (heCID) spectra of labeled KS oligosaccharides displayed fragments of compounds similar to those observed with laser-induced dissociation (LID) analysis, suggesting that both heCID and LID fragmentations can be used to analyze KS oligosaccharides. Moreover, fragmentation analysis of all labeled KS oligosaccharides was performed by MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS. With LID mode, sodium adducts showed fragmentation of glycosidic linkages with mainly Y/B/C ions, as well as various cross-ring cleavages providing exact information for the positions of sulfate groups along the KS oligosaccharide chains. This one-step on-target derivatization method makes MALDI-TOF/TOF-MS identification of KS fast, simple and highly throughput for trace amounts of biological samples. 相似文献

Solvation dynamics in alcohols confined in silica nanochannels was examined by time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy using coumarin 153 (C153) as a fluorescent probe. Surfactant-templated mesoporous silica was fabricated inside the pores of an anodic alumina membrane. The surfactant was removed by calcination to give mesoporous silica (Cal-NAM) containing one-dimensional (1D) silica nanochannels (diameter, 3.1 nm) whose inner surface was covered with silanol groups. By treating Cal-NAM with trimethylchlorosilane, trimethylsilyl (TMS) groups were formed on the inner surface of the silica nanochannels (TMS-NAM). Fluorescence dynamic Stokes shifts of C153 were measured in alcohols (ethanol, butanol, hexanol, and decanol) confined in the silica nanochannels of Cal- and TMS-NAMs, and the time-dependent fluorescence decay profiles could be best fitted by a biexponential function. The estimated solvent relaxation times were much larger than those observed in bulk alcohols for both Cal- and TMS-NAMs when ethanol or butanol was used as a solvent, indicating that the mobility of these alcohol molecules was restricted within the silica nanochannels. However, hexanol or decanol in Cal- and TMS-NAMs did not cause a remarkable increase in the solvent relaxation time in contrast to ethanol or butanol. Therefore, it was concluded that a relatively rigid assembly of alcohols (an alcohol chain) was formed within the silica nanochannels by hydrogen bonding interaction and van der Waals force between the surface functional groups of the silica nanochannels and alcohol molecules and by the successive interaction between alcohol molecules when alcohol with a short alkyl chain (ethanol or butanol) was used as a solvent. 相似文献
