We measure the branching fraction for the flavor-changing neutral-current process B-->X(s)l(+)l(-) with a sample of 89x10(6) Upsilon(4S)-->BBmacr; events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e(+)e(-) storage ring. The final state is reconstructed from e(+)e(-) or micro(+)micro(-) pairs and a hadronic system X(s) consisting of one K+/- or K(0)(S) and up to two pions, with at most one pi(0). We observe a signal of 40+/-10(stat)+/-2(syst) events and extract the inclusive branching fraction B(B-->X(s)l(+)l(-))=(5.6+/-1.5(stat)+/-0.6(exp syst)+/-1.1(model syst))x10(-6) for ml(+)(l(-))>0.2 GeV/c(2).  相似文献

We study transport in ferromagnetic-superconductor/normal-metal systems. It is shown that charge and spin currents are pumped from ferromagnetic superconductors into adjacent normal metals by adiabatic changes in the order parameters induced by external electromagnetic fields. Spin and charge pumping identify the symmetry of the superconducting order parameter, e.g., singlet pairing or triplet pairing with opposite or equal spin pairing. Consequences for ferromagnetic-resonance experiments are discussed.  相似文献

We present measurements of the spin and orbital magnetic moments of Fe3O4 by using SQUID and magnetic circular dichroism in soft x-ray absorption. The measurements show that Fe3O4 has a noninteger spin moment, in contrast to its predicted half-metallic feature. Fe3O4 also exhibits a large unquenched orbital moment. Calculations using the local density approximation including the Hubbard U method and the configuration interaction cluster-model suggest that strong correlations and spin-orbit interaction of the 3d electrons result in the noninteger spin and large orbital moments of Fe3O4.  相似文献

We have studied the slow linear viscoelastic response of wet aqueous foams by macroscopic creep compliance measurements, combined to a diffusing-wave spectroscopy investigation of the local dynamics. The data strongly suggest that this rheological response arises from two distinct relaxation mechanisms: The first is due to the coarsening induced bubble rearrangements and governs the steady-state creep; the second results from the interplay between surface tension and surface viscosity of the gas-liquid interfaces and gives rise to a transient relaxation.  相似文献

We report on novel antiferromagnetic (AFM) and superconducting (SC) properties of noncentrosymmetric CePt3Si through measurements of the 195Pt nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T(1). In the normal state, the temperature (T) dependence of 1/T(1) unraveled the existence of low-lying levels in crystal-electric-field multiplets and the formation of a heavy-fermion (HF) state. The coexistence of AFM and SC phases that emerge at T(N)=2.2 K and T(c)=0.75 K, respectively, takes place on a microscopic level. CePt3Si is the first HF superconductor that reveals a peak in 1/T(1) just below T(c) and, additionally, does not follow the T3 law that used to be reported for most unconventional HF superconductors. We remark that this unexpected SC characteristic may be related to the lack of an inversion center in its crystal structure.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate two-photon absorption with broadband down-converted light (squeezed vacuum). Although incoherent and exhibiting the statistics of a thermal noise, broadband down-converted light can induce two-photon absorption with the same sharp temporal behavior as femtosecond pulses, while exhibiting the high spectral resolution of the narrow band pump laser. Using pulse-shaping methods, we coherently control two-photon absorption in rubidium, demonstrating spectral and temporal resolutions that are 3-5 orders of magnitude below the actual bandwidth and temporal duration of the light itself. Such properties can be exploited in various applications such as spread-spectrum optical communications, tomography, and nonlinear microscopy.  相似文献

Local magnetization and current distribution in (La(1-y)Pr(y))0.7Ca0.3MnO3 (y=0.7) crystals are studied by a magneto-optical (MO) imaging technique. MO images below 120 K visualize inhomogeneous magnetization and conduction paths that manifest the percolative conduction originated from the mesoscopic phase separation into ferromagnetic metals and antiferromagnetic insulators. Application of large amounts of current switches the current distribution from inhomogeneous to homogeneous concomitantly with a steep increase in resistivity. These phenomena are discussed in view of current induced collapse of the phase separation through a local heating.  相似文献

The smallness of quark masses suppresses the CP violation from the Kobayashi-Maskawa phase to a level that is many orders of magnitude below what is required to explain the observed baryon asymmetry. We point out that if, as a result of time variation in the Yukawa couplings, quark masses were large at the time of the electroweak phase transition, then the Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism could be the source of the asymmetry. The Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism provides a plausible framework where the Yukawa couplings could all be of order 1 at that time, and settle to their present values before nucleo-synthesis. The problems related to a strong first order electroweak phase transition may also be alleviated in this framework. Our scenario reveals a loophole in the commonly held view that the Kobayashi-Maskawa mechanism cannot be the dominant source of CP violation to play a role in baryogenesis.  相似文献

In response to adverse conditions, myxobacteria form aggregates that develop into fruiting bodies. We model myxobacteria aggregation with a lattice cell model based entirely on short-range (nonchemotactic) cell-cell interactions. Local rules result in a two-stage process of aggregation mediated by transient streams. Aggregates resemble those observed in experiment and are stable against even very large perturbations. Noise in individual cell behavior increases the effects of streams and results in larger, more stable aggregates.  相似文献

The cross sections for electron detachment of internally cold Cn- and Aln- clusters were measured using an electrostatic ion beam trap fitted with an internal electron target. The measured electron-impact detachment cross sections for the Cn- (n = 1-9) clusters exhibit even-odd oscillations reflecting the binding energy trend, namely, higher cross sections for weaker binding. Surprisingly, however, these cross sections increase on the average with cluster size, n, in spite of the increase in electron binding. In contrast, the Aln- (n = 2-5) clusters follow the known scaling laws for electron detachment. We suggest that the size-dependent polarizability of these clusters is responsible for the observed behavior.  相似文献
