Distribution ratios of 15 ethers were determined with various ammonium sulfate eluents and were used to determine the conditions necessary for the separation of five-and seven-component mixtures by salting-out chromatography. Recent work on the crystallographic and morphological structure of semicrystalline PEO complexes with alkali metal salts is described. The thermal properties of the materials and the influence of solvent on complex formation is also considered. The dependence of the ionic conductivity of the complexes on their morphology, the temperature and ionic association is discussed and some current work relating to the mechanism of conduction is considered. The various strategies which have been adopted to suppress crystallinity and so to optimize ionic conductivity, including networks, “comb” structures, and linear copolymers, are reviewed. The morphological organization and mesogenic behavior of some novel crystalline complexes of PEO with organo-alkali salts, such as sodium phenolates and naphtholates, are discussed. Some PEO composite materials which have mixed electronic-ionic mechanisms of conductivity are also described. 相似文献

The computational determination of binding modes for a ligand into a protein receptor is much more successful than the prediction of relative binding affinities (RBAs) for a set of ligands. Here we consider the binding of a set of 26 synthetic A-CD ligands into the estrogen receptor ERα. We show that the MOE default scoring function (London dG) used to rank the docked poses leads to a negligible correlation with experimental RBAs. However, switching to an energy-based scoring function, using a multiple linear regression to fit experimental RBAs, selecting top-ranked poses and then iteratively repeating this process leads to exponential convergence in 4–7 iterations and a very strong correlation. The method is robust, as shown by various validation tests. This approach may be of general use in improving the quality of predicted binding affinities. 相似文献

In this Letter we report observations of optically induced self-organization of colloidal arrays in the presence of unpatterned counterpropagating evanescent waves. The colloidal arrays formed along the laser propagation axis are shown to be linked to the breakup of the incident field into optical spatial solitons, the lateral spacing of the arrays being related to modulation instability of the soft condensed matter system. 相似文献

Summary High resolution gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry were employed to determine the components in samples of solvent refined coal (SRC) II naphtha, middle distillate, heavy distillate, and fuel oil blend and SRC-I light oil, wash solvent, and process solvent in concentrations higher than approximately 0.5%. Quantitation was based on the addition of n-alkane internal standards and peak area response of a flame ionization detector with the use of fused silica and glass capillary columns coated with SE-52 and SF-96. The major differences in the SRC-I and II materials were the molecular weight ranges and sizes of the chemical components found in the products, an effect of the differences in the nominal boiling ranges of the materials. Alkanes, alkenes, hydroxylated aromatics, hydrogenated and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon ring systems, and alkylated derivatives of the above were found in greatest concentration in the unfractionated materials. Sulfur and nitrogen heteroatomic species were in greates concentration in the higher nominal boiling range materials. A major purpose of these investigations was to develop a method to obtain data on the composition of these complex sample matrices for use in designing studies for toxicological evaluation of these materials. 相似文献

We report the first observation of a giant magnetoresistance (MR) in Co/Cu superlattices grown by MBE. The maximum value of the MR is - 26% and this is found in a specimen for which the copper layers are about 7 Å thick and which includes a thin 10 Å layer of gold in the buffer region between the substrate and the superlattice. From RHEED and X-ray diffraction it is shown that the metallic layers in the specimens grown in this way are extremely flat and that the orientation of the copper is (111). 相似文献

Masking sounds can be continuously present, gated simultaneously with the signal, or gated somewhat prior to the signal. This continuum of relative onset times was explored using waveforms of the sort commonly employed in studies of comodulation masking release (CMR). There was a 50-Hz masker band centered on the 1250-Hz tonal signal, and four 50-Hz flanker bands centered at 850, 1050, 1450, and 1650 Hz. In some conditions, all four flanker bands had the same temporal envelope, and the masker band either had that same envelope (correlated presentations) or a different envelope (uncorrelated presentations). In other conditions, all five bands had different temporal envelopes (all-uncorrelated presentations). The masker band and/or the four flanker bands were either gated nearly simultaneously with the signal (burst conditions) or were gated prior to the signal by a duration that was systematically varied (fringed conditions). The eight listeners could be partitioned into three groups on the basis of their response to these fringing manipulations. Two listeners (the large fringers) showed a gradual improvement in detectability with increasing fringe duration (called a temporal decline of masking), while three others (the small fringers) showed little improvement in detectability. For the remaining three subjects, there was evidence of a "learning" effect that changed them from large fringers to small fringers over a 10-week period of listening. When present, the temporal decline of masking was greater for the correlated than for the uncorrelated comodulation condition; as a consequence, the difference in detectability between them (the comodulation masking release or CMR) increased with fringe duration. By fringing the masker and flanker bands separately and in combination, it was revealed that the temporal declines of masking were primarily attributable to the fringing of the flanker bands. In contrast, large CMRs required long fringes on both the masker and flanker bands. The above results were obtained with 50-ms signals, but generally similar data were obtained with a signal duration of 240 ms. The difficulties raised for experimentalists and theorists by such long-term practice effects are discussed. 相似文献

We investigate the quality of solutions obtained from sample-average approximations to two-stage stochastic linear programs
with recourse. We use a recently developed software tool executing on a computational grid to solve many large instances of

A nonlinear intrinsic theory is used to describe the motions of a straight round elastic rod including the influence of radial shear and inertia. Consideration of steady wave motions reduces the two coupled partial differential equations to ordinary differential equations for which two integrals of the motion may be found. For incompressible elastic materials with the restriction of small strain gradients, but arbitrary finite strains, a large variety of exact solutions may be found by quadrature. These include large amplitude periodic waves (which may contain shocks), solitary waves, and in some cases waves that are transitional from one stress level to another. Such solutions may be found for uniform stress strain curves that are concave up or down or that contain inflections, and even for nonmontonic curves, which have been used to represent phase transitions. 相似文献
