Irradiation is an excellent method for improving the safety and functional properties of egg. However, the internal quality of egg can be deteriorated due to a rapid decrease in Haugh units. In this study, the optimal conditions for maintaining the quality and maximizing the safety and functional properties of egg were determined when combination of irradiation and chitosan coating was treated using response surface methodology (RSM). Independent degradation parameters—irradiation dose (0–2 kGy) and concentration of chitosan coating (0–2%) were assigned (?2,–1, 0, 1, 2), and 10 intervals were set on the basis of central composite design for the degradation experiment. The dependant variables within a confidence level less than 5% were Haugh units, foaming ability, foam stability, and number of Salmonella typhimurium. The predicted maximum values of Haugh units and foaming ability were 82.7 (irradiation dose 0.0006 kGy and concentration of chitosan solution 1.03%) and 62.2 mm (1.99 kGy and 0.86%), respectively. S. typhimurium inoculated on the egg surface was not detected after 1.86 kGy and 0.48%. Based on superimposing four-dimensional RSM with respect to freshness (Haugh units), functional property (foaming capacity and foam stability), and reduction of S. typhimurium, the predicted optimum ranges for irradiation dose and chitosan solution concentration were 0.35–0.65 kGy and 0.25–0.85%, respectively. The predicted optimum values were obtained from 0.45 kGy and 0.525%. This methodology can be used to predict egg quality and safety when different combination treatments were applied.  相似文献

Objective

The objective was to determine imaging features that distinguish small (≤3cm) solid pancreatic adenocarcinoma, neuroendocrine tumor (NET) and solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) on gadoxetic-acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diffusion-weighed imaging (DWI).

Materials and methods

Twenty-four adenocarcinomas, 10 NETs and 8 SPTs were retrospectively included. Two radiologists analyzed morphologic features, signal intensity of the tumors on MR images including DWI (b=800) and dynamic enhancement pattern with consensus. Tumor-to-parenchyma ratio and tumor apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) were quantitatively assessed.

Results

All adenocarcinomas had an ill-defined margin and irregular shape, and more frequently had pancreatic duct dilatation compared with other tumors (P<.05). All SPTs and all but one of the adenocarcinomas (95.8%) had no arterial enhancement with progressively increased enhancement, whereas seven NETs (70%) had arterial enhancement with progressively decreased enhancement (P<.01). The mean value of tumor-to-parenchyma ratio on arterial and portal phases was significantly higher for NETs, and the mean value of tumor ADCs was significantly lower for SPTs than for other tumors (P<.05).

Conclusions

Gadoxetic-acid-enhanced MRI may aid in differentiation between small adenocarcinomas, NETs and SPTs based on morphologic features with dynamic enhancement pattern in adenocarcinomas, dynamic enhancement pattern with tumor-to-parenchyma ration on arterial and portal phases in NETs, and dynamic enhancement pattern with lower ADC value in SPTs.  相似文献

Aqueous solutions that undergo sol-to-gel transition as the temperature increases have been extensively studied during the last decade. The material can be designed by controlling the hydrophilic and hydrophobic balance of the material. Basically, the molecular weight of the hydrophilic block and hydrophobic block of a compound should be fine-tuned from the synthetic point of view. In addition, stereochemistry, microsequence, topology, and nanostructures of the compound also affect the transition temperature, gel window, phase diagram, and modulus of the gel. From a practical point of view, biodegradability, biocompatibility, and interactions between the material and drug or cell should be considered in designing a thermogelling material. The interactions are particularly important in that they control drug release profile and initial burst release of the drug in the drug delivery system, and affect cell proliferation, differentiation, and biomarker expression in three-dimensional cell culture and tissue engineering application. This review provides an in-depth summary of the recent progress of thermogelling systems including polymers, low molecular compounds, and nanoemulsions. Their biomedical applications were also comparatively discussed. In addition, perspectives on future material design of a new thermogelling material and its application are suggested.  相似文献

The conversion of low-priced glycerol to higher value products has been proposed as a way to improve the economic viability of the biofuels industry. In a previous study, the conversion of glycerol to ethanol in a metabolically engineered strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was accomplished by minimizing the synthesis of glycerol, the main by-product in ethanol fermentation processing. To further improve ethanol production, overexpression of the native genes involved in conversion of pyruvate to ethanol in S. cerevisiae was successfully accomplished. The overexpression of an alcohol dehydrogenase (adh1) and a pyruvate decarboxylase (pdc1) caused an increase in growth rate and glycerol consumption under fermentative conditions, which led to a slight increase of the final ethanol yield. The overall expression of the adh1 and pdc1 genes in the modified strains, combined with the lack of the fps1 and gpd2 genes, resulted in a 1.4-fold increase (about 5.4 g/L ethanol produced) in fps1Δgpd2Δ (pGcyaDak, pGupCas) (about 4.0 g/L ethanol produced). In summary, it is possible to improve the ethanol yield by overexpression of the genes involved in the conversion of pyruvate to ethanol in engineered S. cerevisiae using glycerol as substrate.  相似文献

We study the major factors causing degradation in the lateral resolution of gradient-index-lens-based catheters used for high-resolution optical coherence tomography. Chromatic aberration and astigmatism were taken into account in the propagation of broadband single-mode Gaussian beams through the catheter geometry. It was found that, while chromatic aberration did not preclude achieving high resolution, astigmatism posed a major technical difficulty, because its correction requires a very sensitive adjustment of parameters, especially for catheters with long working distances.  相似文献

Semipolar (112?2) GaN was grown on stripe etched r-plane sapphire substrate by a maskless selective growth method. The initial stage of growth is analyzed by describing the competitive nucleation mechanisms, due to the interplay between kinetics and energetics, on disparate crystallographic planes within the diffusion length of adatoms. The microstructure of the final coalesced semipolar GaN film is revealed by x-ray rocking curve (XRC) analysis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRC analysis yields linewidths between 280 and 550 arcsec for all on-axis and off-axis diffractions. Linewidth broadening factors in dislocated crystals are considered, and a large reduction of stacking fault density can be seen from the measured linewidths as fit to this model. TEM shows a change in the defect characteristics as compared to conventional growth on m-sapphire, filtering of stacking faults and confirmation of the low dislocation density of the final GaN film. The microstructural quality of the film substantiates the possibility of using an inclined basal-plane growth to synthesize non-basal-plane active devices, thus removing the rigid restrictions in contemporary GaN nonpolar and semipolar heteroepitaxy.  相似文献

Synthesis of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) doped silica xerogel films was reported in this work. A crucial step of introducing MWCNTs was achieved by functionalizing them by acid treatment to form stable and homogenous SiO2/MWCNTs sol. Scanning electron microscopy showed spherical particles in honeycomb network structure for undoped xerogel films whereas dispersion and wrapping of MWCNTs in silica matrix was observed for MWCNTs doped films. Various bond formations during the sol–gel process and surface modification were confirmed using Fourier transform infra-red and detailed study on the chemical bonding state of the films was carried out using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Nanoindentation studies showed that the mechanical properties of MWCNTs doped xerogel film increase dramatically: higher modulus (E = 2.127 ± 0.095 GPa) and hardness (H = 0.035 ± 0.017 GPa) values than those of pristine xerogel film (E = 0.234 ± 0.058 GPa, H = 0.01 ± 0.003 GPa).  相似文献

Simple synthesis of modafinil derivatives and their biological activity are described. The key synthetic strategies involve substitution and coupling reactions. We determined the anti-inflammatory effects of modafinil derivatives in cultured BV2 cells by measuring the inhibition of nitrite production and expression of iNOS and COX-2 after LPS stimulation. It was found that for sulfide analogues introduction of aliphatic groups on the amide part (compounds 11a-d) resulted in lower anti-inflammatory activity compared with cyclic or aromatic moieties (compounds 11e-k). However, for the sulfoxide analogues, introduction of aliphatic moieties (compounds 12a-d) showed higher anti-inflammatory activity than cyclic or aromatic fragments (compounds 12e-k) in BV-2 microglia cells.  相似文献
