To estimate potential sunburn risk for schoolchildren and outdoor workers, ground‐based ambient solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) measurements were converted into possible child (5% of ambient solar UVR) and outdoor worker (20% of ambient solar UVR) solar UVR exposures by skin type and season for three coastal sites: Durban, Cape Point (South Africa) and Saint Denis (Reunion Island, France). Cumulative daily ambient solar UVR levels were relatively high at all sites, especially during summer, with maximum values of about 67, 57 and 74 Standard Erythemal Dose (SED) (1 SED = 100 J m?2) at Durban, Cape Point and Saint Denis respectively. Sunburn risk was evident for both children and outdoor workers, especially those with skin types I and II (extremely to moderately sensitive) during summer, early autumn and/or late spring at all three sites. Although results need to be verified with real‐time, instantaneous and nonintegrated personal solar UVR measurements, this understanding of sunburn risk is useful for initiating the development skin cancer prevention and sun protection awareness campaigns in both countries.  相似文献

The influence of a molecule's dipole moment on its ability to capture an electron into a stable bound state is examined. It is proved that, in the fixednuclei approximation, a value greater than 1·625 Debye for the dipole moment suffices to guarantee the existence of a discrete spectrum of negative ion states. Implications for Hartree-Fock calculations of negative ions are discussed. The interaction of electronic, vibrational and rotational motions in negative dipolar ions is studied, and conclusions are drawn for real molecules.  相似文献

Readily water‐soluble PEGylated amphiphiles containing bis‐thiourea‐based molecular recognition units at the interface of hydrophobic and hydrophilic blocks are developed. Self‐assembly of these amphiphiles is found to be dependent on the exact chemical composition of the hydrophobic component. Elongated, spherical, and disk‐like micelles are formed with the change in hydrophobic group from stearyl (2A), oleyl (2B), and dodecanol (2C), respectively. The length of the rod‐like elongated micelles formed by 2A could be tuned by thermal treatment as well. Synthesis and detailed structural characterization of these amphiphiles by TEM, DSC, synchrotron SAXS techniques are reported. Organic solvent‐free direct aqueous encapsulation of doxorubicin, an anticancer drug into these nanostructures is demonstrated.

A power law distribution of relaxation times, large normal stress differences, and physical rupture of molecular network strands dominate the shear behavior of polymers at the gel point (critical gels). This is shown in a series of well-defined experiments with increasing magnitude of shear on a model-network polymer system consisting of a linear, telechelic, vinyl-terminated poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and a four-functional siloxane crosslinker. Stable samples were prepared by stopping the crosslinking reaction at different extents of reaction in the vicinity of the gel point (GP). The Gel Equation has been shown to be valid up to strains of about 2 when using a finite strain tensor. Larger strains have been found to disrupt the network structure of the crosslinking polymer, and introduce a mechanical delay to the gel point. A sample that was crosslinked beyond the gel point (p>p c ) can be reduced from the solid state to a critical gel, or even to a viscoelastic liquid, depending on the magnitude of shear strain. As a consequence, the relaxation exponent of a critical gel created under the influence of shear is less than that of a quiescently crosslinked critical gel.  相似文献

Ten fresh water samples of wells and rivers from the environment of Tarapur Maharashtra Site were analyzed to evaluate and establish the fall out level of 137Cs activity concentration using large volume of water samples. A radiochemical separation method suitable for the analysis of large volume of water sample based on the adsorption of Cs isotopes on coated acrylic fibres was standardized. 134Cs isotope was used for monitoring the radiochemical recovery of the analysis. Radiochemical recovery was obtained in the range of 74?C98% for a sample volume of 250?L or more. The fall out level 137Cs concentration in river/dam water was found to be in the range of 0.205 to 0.268?mBq?L?1. The fall out level annual effective dose through water ingestion pathway for a member of public was evaluated to be 2.27?×?10?9?Sv.  相似文献

This research aims to develop schemes for the programmed assembly of molecular materials. The underlying premise guiding this work is that structural information stored in the molecular constituents dictates their condensed phase organization (i.e. through the sum of all non-covalent interactions). The challenge then is to design molecular building blocks that encode this information in a decipherable manner. Our approach has relied on the use of organic nanoarchitectures, which we believe will serve as “modular units” for programmed assembly. Large molecules of well defined constitution and geometry offer the advantage that a high level of information can be incorporated into a single unit. The design and synthesis of nanoscale macrocyclics and macrobicyclics for this purpose has been achieved. Studies on the solution aggregation of the macrocyclics have provided a unique opportunity to glimpse some of the interactions which may influence solid state ordering. These building blocks are being used for the rational design of novel materials such as porous organic crystals and tubular mesophases.  相似文献
