 The effect of uniform suction on the steady two-dimensional laminar forced flow of a viscous incompressible fluid of temperature dependent viscosity past a wedge with uniform surface heat flux is considered. The governing equations for the flow are obtained by using suitable transformations and are solved by using an implicit finite difference method. Perturbation solutions are also obtained near the leading edge and in the downstream regime. The results are obtained in terms of the local skin friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer for various values of the pertinent parameters, such as the Prandtl number, Pr, the velocity gradient parameter, m, the local suction parameter, ξ, and the viscosity variation parameter, ɛ. Perturbation solutions are compared with the finite difference solutions and are found to be in excellent agreement. The effect of ξ, m and ɛ on the dimensionless velocity profiles and viscosity distribution are also presented graphically for Pr = 0.7 and 7.0, which are the appropriate values for gases and water respectively. The stability of Couette flow of a viscous, imcompressible fluid between two concentric rotating cylinders in the presence of a radial temperature gradient due to constant heat flux at the inner cylinder is studied. Assuming the flow that takes place in a narrow gap, the eigenvalue problem is solved numerically. The critical values ofa (the wave number) andTa (the Taylor number) are listed in a table and these are also shown graphically in the case of the rotation of the cylinders in clockwise and counter-clockwise direction. It is observed that greater amount of heat flux has a stabilising effect.
Einflüsse des radialen Temperaturgradienten auf die Stabilität einer Strömung in einem engen Ringspalt mit konstantem Wärmestrom am inneren rotierenden Zylinder
Zusammenfassung Es wird die Stabilität der Couette Strömung eines viskosen inkompressiblen Fluids zwischen zwei konzentrischen rotierenden Zylindern in Anwesenheit eines durch Wärmeabgabe vom inneren Zylinder hervorgerufenen Temperaturgradienten studiert. Unter der Annahme, daß die Strömung in einem engen Spalt vor sich geht, wird das Eigenwertproblem gelöst. Es werden die kritischen Werte vona (Wellenzahl) und vonTa (Taylorzahl) in Tabellen aufgelistet und diese Ergebnisse werden auch graphisch dargestellt für den Fall, daß die Zylinder gleichsinning und gegensinnig rotieren. Es wurde beobachtet, daß zunehmender Wärmestrom einen stabilisierenden Effekt hat.

The flow and heat transfer over a stretching sheet with a magnetic field in an electrically conducting ambient fluid have been studied. The effects of the induced magnetic field and sources or sinks have been included in the analysis. Both non-isothermal wall and constant heat flux conditions have been considered. The governing equations have been solved numerically using a shooting method. It is observed that for the prescribed wall temperature the skin friction, induced magnetic field at the wall and heat transfer are enhanced due to the magnetic field, but in general, they reduce as the reciprocal of the magnetic Prandtl number increases. For constant heat flux case, the temperature at the wall reduces as the magnetic field increases, but it increases with the reciprocal of the magnetic Prandtl number. The heat transfer is strongly affected by the Prandtl number, wall temperature and sink. Whenm<–2 andPr>2.5 the unrealistic temperature distributions are encountered. The present analysis is more general than any previous investigation.
MHD Strömung und Wärmeübertragung über eine gedehnte Oberfläche mit vorgeschriebener Wandtemperatur oder Wärmestrom
Zusammenfassung In dieser Studie ist die Strömung und Wärmeübertragung über eine gedehnte Fläche mit magnetischem Feld in einem elektrisch leitenden Fluid untersucht worden. Der Einfluß des induzierten magnetischen Feldes und der Quellen oder Senken sind in die Untersuchung einbezogen. Die beiden Fälle, nicht-isotherme Wand und konstanter Wandwärmestrom, sind betrachtet worden. Mit dem Eliminationsverfahren sind bestehende Gleichungen numerisch gelöst worden. Es ist beobachtet worden, daß für eine vorgeschriebene Wandtemperatur die Oberflächenreibung, das induzierte magnetische Feld und die Wärmeübertragung aufgrund des magnetischen Feldes verbessert sind. Aber im allgemeinen reduzieren sie sich im umgekehrten Maß wie die magnetische Prandtlzahl ansteigt. Für den Fall des konstanten Wärmestromes sinkt die Wandtemperatur, wenn das magnetische Feld stärker wird. Die Temperatur steigt jedoch reziprok zur magnetischen Prandtlzahl an. Die Wärmeübertragung ist sehr stark von der Prandtlzahl, Wandtemperatur und der Senke beeinflußt. Bei Werten vonm<–2 undPr2.5 sind unrealistische Temperaturverteilungen eingetreten. Die gezeigte Analyse ist allgemeiner als jede vorhergehende Untersuchung.

A study for the effect of non-uniform slot injection/suction and non-uniform total enthalpy at the wall for a steady non-similar laminar compressible boundary layer flow over a rotating sphere is presented. The effects of rotation and free stream Mach number have also been considered. Non-similar solutions have been obtained from the starting point of the stream wise coordinate to the point of separation using an implicit finite difference scheme in combination with the quasi-linearization technique. The results indicate that the separation can be delayed by non-uniform slot suction and also by moving the slot downstream but the non-uniform slot injection has just the opposite effect. An increase of rotation and total enthalpy at the wall causes separation to occur earlier while cooling delays it. An increase of the Mach number shifts the point of separation upstream due to the adverse pressure gradient. The non-uniform total enthalpy at the wall has a very little effect on the skin friction and hence on the point of separation.  相似文献

This applications paper describes the utilization of strain gages by the Detroit Edison Company in defining and solving major power-plant-equipment problems that had an adverse effect on the availability of the Company's large coal-fired generating units. Case histories of the use of strain gages for troublesome problems involving boiler tubes, air preheaters, stack liners and fans are presented. The role of the strain gage in helping to define the source of the problem and devleop a timely and cost-effective solution is highlighted.  相似文献

The response of laminar boundary layer flow past a semi-infinite flat plate to harmonic oscillations in the plate temperature in the form of a travelling wave convected in the direction of the free-stream has been studied here. Series solutions in terms of the small amplitude and the small oscillations to the non-linear system have been derived and the resulting nonlinear ordinary equations due to usual similarity transformations are solved numerically. The function affecting the temperature is shown on a graph. Due to greater viscous dissipative heat the function K 1, increases and it decreases with increasing Prandtl number. Also the time averaged heat flux function K 1(0) increases with Prandtl number and decreases due to greater viscous dissipative heat.  相似文献

An analysis has been performed to study the unsteady laminar compressible boundary layer governing the hypersonic flow over a circular cone at an angle of attack near a plane of symmetry with either inflow or outflow in the presence of suction. The flow is assumed to be steady at time t=0 and at t>0 it becomes unsteady due to the time-dependent free stream velocity which varies arbitrarily with time. The nonlinear coupled parabolic partial differential equations under boundary layer approximations have been solved by using an implicit finite-difference method. It is found that suction plays an important role in stabilising the fluid motion and in obtaining unique solution of the problem. The effect of the cross flow parameter is found to be more pronounced on the cross flow surface shear stress than on the streamwise surface shear stress and surface heat transfer. Beyond a certain value of the cross flow parameter overshoot in the cross flow velocity occurs and the magnitude of this overshoot increases with the cross flow parameter. The time variation of the streamwise surface shear stress is more significant than that of the cross flow surface shear stress and surface heat transfer. The suction and the total enthalpy at the wall exert strong influence on the streamwise and cross flow surface shear stresses and the surface heat transfer except that the effect of suction on the cross flow surface shear stress is small.  相似文献

Summary The growth and decay of a weak discontinuity headed by a singular surface of arbitrary shape in three dimensions is investigated in a chemically reacting atmosphere, in the absence of dissipative mechanisms such as viscosity, diffusion and heat conduction. The combined effects of the disequilibrium due to the chemical reaction and a wave front curvature on the propagation of discontinuities have been examined and discussed. It has been observed that the chemical disequilibrium, with its Arrhenius rate dependence, causes the compression wave to steepen more swiftly that it does in an inert atmosphere. The critical values of the initial discontinuity, and time for shock formation, in cases of diverging and converging waves, have been determined.  相似文献
