Graphene‐Based Inverted Planar Perovskite Solar Cells: Advancements,Fundamental Challenges,and Prospects

Metal halide based perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are considered among the most promising photovoltaic technologies, and already present certified efficiencies that surpass 22 %. The high performance and low fabrication cost make this technology competitive with that of state‐of‐the‐art thin‐film photovoltaics. However, PSCs present some striking disadvantages that hinder their commercialization, including short operational lifetimes, high toxicity, and hysteresis effects, which lower both the performance and long‐term stability of the devices. Herein, work conducted within the last two years is summarized with regard to addressing the challenges of low‐temperature‐processed planar inverted PSCs composed of graphene‐based materials. In addition, critical challenges and the prospects of this field are discussed and some prospects for future research directions are proposed.     

An efficient synthesis of 2-amino-3-cyano-2-pyrrolin-4-ones, via the corresponding open chain tautomers (aminoacetylmalononitriles)

Malononitrile has been found to be acylated effectively using N-protected glycines by simultaneous activation of an amino acid carbonyl group and a malononitrile methylene group using carbonyl diimidazole (CDI). The corresponding aminoacetonitriles were isolated as enols and/or as their tautomeric forms, 2-amino-3-cyano-2-pyrrolin-4-ones.     

Combined Effect of Impregnation with an Origanum vulgare Infusion and Osmotic Treatment on the Shelf Life and Quality of Chilled Chicken Fillets

The scope of this work is the study of a combined process including a dipping step into an oregano (Origanum vulgare ssp. hirtum) infusion (OV) followed by osmotic treatment of chicken fillets at 15 °C. Chicken fillets were immersed in an osmotic solution consisting of 40% glycerol and 5% NaCl with (OV/OD) and without (OD) prior antioxidant enrichment in a hypotonic oregano solution. A comparative shelf life study of all the samples (untreated, OD and OV/OD treated) was then conducted at 4 °C in order to assess the impact of this process on the quality and shelf life of chilled chicken fillets. Microbial growth, lipid oxidation and color/texture changes were measured throughout the chilled storage period. Rates of microbial growth of pretreated fillets were significantly reduced, mainly as a result of water activity decrease (OD step). Rancidity development closely related to off odors and sensory rejection was greatly inhibited in treated fillets owing to both inhibitory factors (OD and OV), with water-soluble phenols (OV step) exhibiting the main antioxidant effect. Shelf life of treated chicken fillets exhibited a more than three-fold increase as compared to the untreated samples based on both chemical and microbial spoilage indices, maintaining a positive and pleasant sensory profile throughout the storage period examined.     

Clays as a host matrix in the synthesis of organic macrocycles

A new approach for the synthesis of amide macrocycles, based on the use of organo-clay derivatives as controlling template, is proposed as an alternative to the rotaxane method. Dications of p-xylylene diamine inserted in the clay interlayer space act as molding pillars around which neutral diamine molecules are erected via hydrogen bonding and pi-pi interactions to form supramolecular arrays. Condensation of diamines in the supramolecular arrays with diacetyl dichlorides yields various tetramide macrocycles in good yields. Shape, aromaticity and dimensions of the reactants are factors affecting the condensation reaction.     

Acylaminoacetyl derivatives of active methylene compounds. 3 . C-Acylation Reactions via the Hippuric Acid Azlactone

The C-acylation reactions of the active methylene compounds, methyl cyanoacetate and Meldrum's acid, with hippuric acid, using the DCC activation and the mixed anhydride conditions, are shown to proceed through initial formation of 2-phenyl-5(4H)-oxazolone, the hippuric acid azlactone. The conditions of these reactions using the azlactone as the acylating agent were investigated and discussed.     

High-resolution wavelength-dispersive spectroscopy of K-shell transitions in hydrogen-like gold

We present a measurement of K-shell transitions in H-like gold (Au⁷⁸⁺) using specially developed transmission type crystal spectrometers combined with Ge(i) microstrip detectors. The experiment has been carried out at the Experimental Storage Ring at GSI in Darmstadt. This is a first high-resolution wavelength-dispersive measurement of a K-shell transition in a high-Z H-like ion, thus representing an important milestone in this field. Ideas on possible future improvements are discussed as well.
