N-Bromosuccinimide-dibenzoyl peroxide/azabisisobutyronitrile: a reagent for Z- to E-alkene isomerization

N-Bromosuccinimide-dibenzoyl peroxide/azobisisobutyronitrile is used to carry out several types of Z- to E-alkene isomerizations. The NBS-bromination conditions are sufficient for both allylic bromination and alkene isomerization. When the allylic hydrogens are not available in substrates, only the isomerization of the alkene takes place. The present conditions for isomerization of carbon-carbon double bonds are mild and efficient.     

Copper-catalyzed hydrostannation of activated alkynes

[reactions: see text] [(Ph3P)CuH]6 effectively catalyzes the hydrostannation of activated alkynes with exclusive regioselectivity for alpha-stannation. Syn hydrostannation is observed exclusively for alkynoates. Anti or syn hydrostannation adducts are obtained as products for alkynone substrates.     

Complex series [Ru(tpy)(dpk)(X)]n+ (tpy = 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine; dpk = 2,2'-dipyridyl ketone; X = Cl-, CH3CN, NO2(-), NO+, NO*, NO-): substitution and electron transfer, structure, and spectroscopy

The complex framework [Ru(tpy)(dpk)]2+ has been used to study the generation and reactivity of the nitrosyl complex [Ru(tpy)(dpk)(NO)]3+ ([4]3+). Stepwise conversion of the chloro complex [Ru(tpy)(dpk)(Cl)]+ ([1]+) via [Ru(tpy)(dpk)(CH3CN)]2+ ([2]2+) and the nitro compound [Ru(tpy)(dpk)(NO2)]+ ([3]+) yielded [4]3+; all four complexes were structurally characterized as perchlorates. Electrochemical oxidation and reduction was investigated as a function of the monodentate ligand as was the IR and UV-vis spectroscopic response (absorption/emission). The kinetics of the conversion [4]3+/[3]+ in aqueous environment were also studied. Two-step reduction of [4]3+ was monitored via EPR, UV-vis, and IR (nu(NO), nu(CO)) spectroelectrochemistry to confirm the {RuNO}7 configuration of [4]2+ and to exhibit a relatively intense band at 505 nm for [4]+, attributed to a ligand-to-ligand transition originating from bound NO-.     

Oxomolybdenum(VI) and (IV) complexes of pyrazole derived ONO donor ligands – synthesis,crystal structure studies and spectroelectrochemical correlation

Four cis-dioxomolybdenum complexes of general formula [MoO₂(Lⁿ)EtOH] (n = 1–4) and one oxomolybdenum(IV) complex [MoO(L⁴)EtOH], with potentially tridentate Schiff bases derived from 5-methyl pyrazole-3-carbohydrazide and salicylaldehyde/substituted salicylaldehyde/o-hydroxy acetophenone have been prepared. The Mo(IV) complex is derived from the Mo(VI) dioxo complex by oxotransfer reaction with PPh₃. The complexes are characterized by elemental analysis, electronic spectra, IR, ¹H NMR, and by cyclic voltammetry. All the Mo(VI) species are crystallographically characterized. The complexes have a distorted octahedral structure in which the ligand behaves as a binegative donor one, leaving the pyrazole –N uncoordinated towards the metal center. It is also revealed from the crystal structure that the Mo(VI) center enjoys an NO₅ donor environment.     

Selective glucose sensing in complex media using a biomimetic receptor

Glucose is a key biomedical analyte, especially relevant to the management of diabetes. Current methods for glucose determination rely on the enzyme glucose oxidase, requiring specialist instrumentation and suffering from redox-active interferents. In a new approach, a powerful and highly selective achiral glucose receptor is mixed with a sample, l-glucose is added, and the induced CD spectrum is measured. The CD signal results from competition between the enantiomers, and is used to determine the d-glucose content. The involvement of l-glucose doubles the signal range from the CD spectrometer and allows sensitivity to be adjusted over a wide dynamic range. It also negates medium effects, which must be equal for both enantiomers. The method has been demonstrated with human serum, pre-filtered to remove proteins, giving results which closely match the standard biochemical procedures, as well as a cell culture medium and a beer sample containing high (70 mM) and low (0.4 mM) glucose concentrations respectively.

A highly selective receptor, circular dichroism and chiral competition are combined in this versatile method for d-glucose analysis.     

Two (E)‐2‐arylidene‐1,4‐di‐p‐tosyl‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroquinoxaline compounds: supramolecular frameworks built with C—H...O and C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions

The pyrazine ring in two N‐substituted quinoxaline derivatives, namely (E)‐2‐(2‐methoxybenzylidene)‐1,4‐di‐p‐tosyl‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroquinoxaline, C₃₀H₂₈N₂S₂O₅, (II), and (E)‐methyl 2‐[(1,4‐di‐p‐tosyl‐1,2,3,4‐tetrahydroquinoxalin‐2‐ylidene)methyl]benzoate, C₃₁H₂₈N₂S₂O₆, (III), assumes a half‐chair conformation and is shielded by the terminal tosyl groups. In the molecular packing of the compounds, intermolecular C—H...O hydrogen bonds between centrosymmetrically related molecules generate dimeric rings, viz. R₂²(22) in (II) and R₂²(26) in (III), which are further connected through C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds and π–π stacking interactions into novel supramolecular frameworks.     

Conservation of a resource based fishery through optimal taxation

In the present paper, we study a dynamic reaction model in which (i) the predator is provided with an alternative food in addition to the prey species, (ii) the predator is harvested, and (iii) a tax is imposed to regulate the system. The existence of possible steady states along with their local as well as global stability is discussed for both the exploited and unexploited systems. Boundedness of the system is also discussed. It is seen that the system undergoes a Hopf bifurcation by the addition of alternative prey and the criteria for the Hopf-bifurcation is also discussed. Optimal tax policy is discussed using Pontryagin’s maximal principle. Finally, some numerical simulations are given to show the consistency with theoretical analysis.
