Crystal structures of two allotropic forms of Na2CoP2O7

Na₂CoP₂O₇ may be prepared in two allotropie forms:I, rose,M _r =278.85, triclinic, P1,a=9.735(2),b=10.940(3),c=12.289(4) Å,=148.78,=121.76(1), =68.38(2)°,V=566.8(2) ų,Z=4,D _meas=3.28(5) g cm^–3,D _calc=3.267 g cm^–3, (MoK)=0.71069 Å,=37.12 cm^–1, F(000)=540,T=298 K,R=5.4% for 2911 observed reflections; andII, blue,M _r =278.85, orthorhombic, P2₁cn,a=7.713(2) Å,b=10.271(4),c=15.378(6)°,V=1218.2(8) ų,Z=8,D _meas=3.06(5) g cm^–3,D _calc=3.040 g cm^–1, (MoK ) Å,=34.55 cm^–1, F(000)=1080,T=298 K,R=9.9% for 1450 observed reflections. Cobalt displays octahedral coordination to six oxygen atoms in the rose form whereas the metal coordination is tetrahedral in the blue form.     

Comparison of contact angle measurement and microbial adhesion to solvents for assaying electron donor-electron acceptor (acid-base) properties of bacterial surface

The electron donor-electron acceptor (acid-base properties) of cell surfaces of a series of bacteria were determined by two methods, namely, Microbial Adhesion to Solvents (MATS) and Contact Angle Measurements (CAM) combined with equation of Van Oss. The efficiency of these two methods was then compared. Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, Bacillus subtilis ILP 142B, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and four Escherichia coli strains including HB101, AL52, O128B12 and ATCC 25922, acid-base properties were examined under the two different conditions mentioned above. The results showed that the correlation between acid-base properties determined by MATS and CAM was very weak. We have also found that when the microbial cell surface was electron donor by CAM method, similar result was found by MATS, but the reverse was not always true. In contrast, a good correlation between the two methods was obtained when the four E. coli strains were examined.     

New Epoxydammarane Triterpenes from Salvia santolinifolia

Three new 20,24‐epoxydammarane triterpenes, santolins A–C ( 1 – 3 ), were isolated from the AcOEt‐soluble fraction of the MeOH extract of Salvia santolinifolia (whole plant). Their structures were assigned based on ¹H‐NMR, ¹³C‐NMR (DEPT), and 2D‐NMR analyses, in combination with HR‐MS experiments and comparison with literature data of related compounds.     

Stereoselective Synthesis of Morpholines via Copper-Promoted Oxyamination of Alkenes

A new copper(II) 2-ethylhexanoate-promoted addition of an alcohol and an amine across an alkene (oxyamination) is reported. The alcohol addition is intramolecular, while coupling with the amine occurs intermolecularly. Several 2-aminomethyl morpholines were synthesized in good to excellent yields and diastereoselectivities.     

A Simple and Efficient One‐Pot Synthesis of Multifunctional 5‐Aryl‐5H‐thiazolo[3,2‐a]pyrimidines

One‐pot economical and efficient synthesis of multifunctional 5H‐thiazolo[3,2‐a]pyrimidines by the reaction of 4‐aryl dihydrothiopyrimidines with propargyl bromide in the presence of inorganic base has been reported in very short time.     

Isolation and structure of rosicine from Catharanthus roseus

An investigation of the alkaloidal constituents of the leaves of Catharanthus roseus has led to the isolation of a new alkaloid, “rosicine”, to which structure (1) has been assigned on the basis of spectroscopic studies. Two other alkaloids isolated have been identified as 14, 15-dehydroepivincadine and 19-hydroxytabersonine.     

RP-HPLC Method for the Quantitation of Glabridin in Yashti-madhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

A reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic method is developed for the quantitation of glabridin in Glycyrrhiza glabra, using C₁₈ column with acetonitrile-water containing 2% AcOH (70:30) as an eluent. Glabridin is detected by UV absorption at 280 nm after separation by the chromatographic system. Good linearity was obtained in the working range of the concentration (0.01–0.1 mg mL^?1), with correlation coefficients 0.999. Limit of detection and limit of quantitation were 0.0195 and 0.065 mg mL^?1. The method was validated under ICH guidelines. The described method can be utilized for routine analysis (assays and stability tests) of G. glabra extracts and Ayurvedic medicine based on Yashti-madhu.     

Synthesis of polyfunctionally substituted heteroaromatic compounds via benzotriazolyl chalcones with antimicrobial and antifungal activities

The utility of both 3‐(1‐benzotriazolyl) chalcone derivatives 3a‐c and 2‐(1‐benzotriazolyl)‐1,4‐pentadien‐3‐one (18) in the synthesis of some new 2‐(1H)‐pyridone, pyridine, pyrazole and isoxazole derivatives is reported. Antimicrobial and antifungal screening of some selected examples from the synthesized products were carried out. The structure of the newly synthesized compounds was elucidated by elemental analysis, ir, ¹H and ¹³C nmr investigations.
