Different diblock copolymers constituted by one segment of a monomer supporting a reactive functional group, like allyl methacrylate (AMA), were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Bromo‐terminated polymers, like polystyrene (PS), poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and poly(butyl acrylate) (PBA) were employed as macroinitiators to form the other blocks. Copolymerizations were carried out using copper chloride with N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as the catalyst system in benzonitrile solution at 70 °C. At the early stage, the ATRP copolymerizations yielded well‐defined linear block copolymers. However, with the polymerization progress a change in the macromolecular architecture takes place due to the secondary reactions caused by the allylic groups, passing to a branched and/or star‐shaped structure until finally yielding gel at monomer conversion around 40% or higher. The block copolymers were characterized by means of size exclusion chromatography (SEC), 1H NMR spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In addition, one of these copolymers, specifically P(BA‐b‐AMA), was satisfactorily modified through osmylation reaction to obtain the subsequent amphiphilic diblock copolymer of P(BA‐b‐DHPMA), where DHPMA is 2,3‐dihydroxypropyl methacrylate; demonstrating the feasibility of side‐chain modification of the functional obtained copolymers. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We study convergence properties of a modified subgradient algorithm, applied to the dual problem defined by the sharp augmented
Lagrangian. The primal problem we consider is nonconvex and nondifferentiable, with equality constraints. We obtain primal
and dual convergence results, as well as a condition for existence of a dual solution. Using a practical selection of the
step-size parameters, we demonstrate the algorithm and its advantages on test problems, including an integer programming and
an optimal control problem.

We study Hilbert space aspects of the Klein-Gordon equation in two-dimensional spacetime. We associate to its restriction
to a spacelike wedge a scattering from the past light cone to the future light cone, which is then shown to be (essentially)
the Hankel transform of order zero. We apply this to give a novel proof, solely based on the causality of this spatio-temporal
wave propagation, of the theorem of de Branges and V. Rovnyak concerning Hankel pairs with a support property. We recover
their isometric expansion as an application of Riemann’s general method for solving Cauchy-Goursat problems of hyperbolic
type.

Dyson has associated with the Fredholm determinants of the even (resp. odd) Dirichlet kernels a Schrödinger equation on the half-axis and has used, in tandem, the Gel'fand–Levitan and Marchenko methods of inverse scattering theory to study the asymptotics of these determinants. Adaptation of populations takes place with the occurrence and subsequent fixation of mutations that confer some selective
advantage
to the individuals which acquire it. For this reason, the study of the process of fixation of advantageous mutations has a
long history
in the population genetics literature. Particularly, the previous investigations aimed to find out the main evolutionary forces
affecting the strength of natural selection in the populations.
In the current work, we investigate the dynamics of fixation of beneficial mutations in a subdivided population. The subpopulations
(demes)
can exchange migrants
among their neighbors, in a migration network which is assumed to have either a random graph or a scale-free topology. We
have observed that the migration rate
drastically affects the dynamics of mutation fixation, despite of the fact that the probability of fixation is invariant on
the
migration rate, accordingly to
Maruyama's conjecture. In addition, we have noticed a topological dependence of the adaptive evolution of the population when
clonal interference

The use of photonic materials has been used in the theory of optical waves. The PBG (Photonic Band Gap) theory and material, was developed recently for optical frequencies and can be easily applied to millimeter waves, microwaves and planar antenna frequencies. The presence of photonic materials as substrate in antennas has some good characteristics such as, supression of light spontaneous emission and suppression of surface waves, allowing the application in planar antenna array.
