Geographical discrimination of Chinese winter wheat using volatile compound analysis by HS‐SPME/GC‐MS coupled with multivariate statistical analysis

This study aimed to develop a potential analytical method to discriminate the Chinese winter wheat according to geographical origin and cultivars. A total of 90 wheat samples of 10 different wheat cultivars among three regions were examined by headspace solid phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry (GC‐MS). The peak areas of 32 main volatile compounds were selected and subjected to statistical analysis, which revealed significant differences among different regions and cultivars. Multivariate analysis of variance showed a significant influence of regions, wheat genotypes, and their interaction on the volatile composition of wheat. Principal component analysis of the aromatic profile showed better visualization for wheat geographical origins. Finally, a classification model based on the linear discriminant analysis was successfully constructed for the discrimination of regions and cultivars with the correct classification percentages of 90 and 100%, respectively.     

Copper(I) and silver(I) complexes of 1,5-methylene- and diethylmethylene-bridged bis(oxazoline) ligands. In situ Cu(II)-catalyzed oxidation of methylene bridge

Silver(I) and copper(I) complexes of C₂-symmetric bis(oxazoline) ligands were studied by UV, NMR, IR, EPR and ES-MS spectroscopies. The stability constants of the Ag-1a and Ag-1b complexes with 1:1 and 1:2 stoichiometries in acetonitrile were determined by NMR spectrometric titrations. The evidence of tetrahedral coordination for complex (Ag(1a)₂(⁺ was obtained from the complexation induced shifts (CIS) and NOEs. Mass spectra revealed the Cu(II) mediated oxidation of methylene bridge in copper complexes of 1a and 1b, which was in accordance with the UV, NMR, IR and EPR findings. The efficiency of Cu(I) complexes of methylene-bridged 1,5-bis(oxazoline)s 1 as chiral catalysts in stereoselective cyclopropanation of styrene with ethyl diazoacetate, was compared to that of the dialkylmethylene-bridged 1,5-bis(oxazoline)s 2.     

Receptor binding affinity based comparative QSAR study of testosterone derivatives

The quantitative structure activity relationship models of 22 testosterone derivatives have been made with the help of topological and quantum chemical parameters. The molecular modeling and geometry optimization have been carried out with CAChe Pro software. The calculations of topological and quantum chemical parameters have been done by MOPAC 2007. The statistical parameters are calculated by STATISTICA and SSP software. The study indicates that the topological parameters better predict the receptor binding affinity of testosterone derivatives, whereas quantum chemical parameters better predict androgenic potency of testosterone derivatives as indicated by correlation coefficient, standard error, standard error of estimation, p value, t value, and degree of freedom of the quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) models. Space-resolved low frequency dynamics in entangled polymers

A T_1ρ filter for the NMR imaging of solid polymers is presented. T_1ρ is the relaxation time in the rotating frame, which is sensitive to the molecular motion and whose spectral density falls in the range of slow dynamics, namely motion characterized by correlation times ranging between 10⁻² and 10⁻⁵ s. The method allows one to obtain a good spatial resolution without the need of strong field gradients and without the effects related to the spatial encoding manipulation of the spin system.     

Fingerprint chemotaxonomic GC–TOFMS profile of wood and bark of mangrove tree Sonneratia caseolaris (L.) Engl.

The bark and wood of Sonneratia caseolaris (L.) Engl. have been analyzed for chemical profile by GC–TOFMS. Overall thirty-two compounds from bark and twenty-eight compounds from wood have been detected. Sixteen constituents have been found to be common in both the extracts. GC–TOFMS chemical profile may be a significant finger print chemotaxonomic marker as an identity of this plant.     

CFD analysis of an oscillating wing at various reduced frequencies

The effect of various reduced frequencies has been examined for an oscillating aspect ratio 10 NACA 0015 wing. An unsteady, compressible three‐dimensional (3D) Navier–Stokes code based on Beam and Warming algorithm with the Baldwin–Lomax turbulence model has been used. The code is validated for the study against published experimental data. The 3D unsteady flow field is simulated for reduced frequency values of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 for a fixed mean angle of attack position and fixed amplitude. The type of motion is sinusoidal harmonic. The force coefficients, pressure distributions and flow visualization show that at the given conditions the flow remains attached to the wing surface even at high angles of attack with no clear separation or typical light‐to‐deep category of dynamic stall. Increased magnitude of hysteresis and higher gradients are seen at higher reduced frequencies. The 3D effects are even found at midspan locations. In addition, the rate of decrease in lift near the wing tips compared with the wing root is not much like in the static cases. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

The spin coherence relaxation in the rotating frame as a microscopy parameter for strongly coupled spin systems.

The transverse relaxation time in the rotating frame T2rho is proposed as an effective parameter to get specific contrast in solid state imaging. Several peculiarities make T2rho an interesting candidate to map dynamics and structure in solids: the effect of the secular spin interaction can be controlled by the experimenter and therefore the relaxation associated with the nonsecular terms, which is particularly sensitive to very slow dynamics, can be observed. In this paper we present preliminary results obtained on polymers and prove the capability of the MARF Imaging, enhanced by a filter based on rotary echo refocusing, to produce images of solids contrasted by T2rho.     

Recent trends in ring opening of epoxides by amines as nucleophiles

β-Amino alcohols are versatile intermediates in the synthesis of various biologically potent compounds, which can also be achieved by ring opening of epoxides by amines. In the present review, focus has been placed on the ring opening of epoxides with amines under a variety of reaction parameters reported during 2011–2015. All the factors that resulted in excellent yields and high regioselectivity, are environmentally benign, and use mild conditions have been discussed in detail. In addition, the applications of these methods in the synthesis of biologically active compounds such as β-blockers have also been described.
