β-Cyclodextrin as a supramolecular catalyst for the synthesis of 2Hindazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-trione derivatives in water and their antimicrobial activities

An efficient and green method has been developed for the synthesis of 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazinetriones derivatives by employing 15 mol%β-cyclodextrinvia a one-pot multicomponent reaction of aldehyde,dimedone,hydrazine hydrate with succinic anhydride/phthalic anhydride in water at 80 ℃ for first time.The catalyst could be recovered and reused for four consecutive cycles without appreciable loss in catalytic activity and evaluated for in vitro antimicrobial activity against different Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains.The outcome of the screening study showed that compound 6d,6f and7 n exhibited excellent activity against E.coil.Whereas,compound 6f and 6h exhibited excellent activity against P.aeurginosa,and compound 6c,and 6e displayed again excellent activity against Staphylococcus aureus whereas compound 7o shows excellent activity against S.aureus and B.subtilis when compared with Ampicillin(standard control).The results indicated that maximum compounds are moderately effective against bacterial growth and their effectiveness is highest against standard drugs.     

Microwave‐assisted synthesis,spectroscopy and biological aspects of binuclear titanocene chelates of isatin‐2,3‐bis(thiosemicarbazones)

The reactions of bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) chloride with a new class of bis(thiosemicarbazones) (H₂L), derived by condensing isatin with different N(4)‐substituted thiosemicarbazides, have been studied both by a conventional stirring method and also using microwave technology. Binuclear products of type [{(η⁵‐C₅H₅)₂TiCl} ₂(L)] have been isolated in both cases. Tentative structural conclusions are drawn for the reaction products based upon analysis, electrical conductance, magnetic moment and spectral (UV‐visible, IR, ¹H NMR and ¹³C NMR) data. FAB mass spectra of these compounds were also recorded to confirm the binuclear structures. DFT based computational study on the excited state intramolecular proton transfer processes in o-hydroxybenzaldehyde

Potential energy (PE) curves for the intramolecular proton transfer in the ground (GSIPT) and excited (ESIPT) states of o-hydroxybenzaldehyde (OHBA) were studied using DFT-B3LYP/6-31G(d) and TD-DFT-B3LYP/6-31G(d) level of theory, respectively. Our calculations suggest the non-viability of ground state intramolecular proton transfer in this compound. Excited states PE calculations support the ESIPT process in OHBA. The contour PE diagram and the variation of oscillator strength along the proton transfer co-ordinate support the dual emission in OHBA. Our calculations also support the experimental observations of Nagaoka et al. [S. Nagaoka, U. Nagashima, N. Ohta, M. Fujita, T. Takemura, J. Phys. Chem. 92 (1988) 166], i.e. normal emission of the title compound comes from S(2) state and the red-shifted proton transfer band appears from the S(1) state. ESIPT process has also been explained in terms of HOMO and LUMO electron density of the enol and keto tautomer of OHBA and from the potential energy surfaces.     

Functionalized styryl bipyridine as a superior chelate for a ruthenium sensitizer in dye sensitized solar cells

The new sensitizer MC119 has been synthesized and the solar cell constructed with 0.25 cm(2) active area photoelectrode in combination with an electrolyte composed of 0.6 M dimethylpropyl-imidazolium iodide (DMPII), 0.05 M I(2), 0.5 M TBP and 0.1 M LiI in acetonitrile achieved a solar to electric energy conversion efficiency (η) of 8.36% under Air Mass (AM) 1.5 sunlight, while the reference N719 sensitized solar cell exhibited η-value of 7.2%.     

Anti-inflammatory activity of Abutilon indicum extract

Abutilon indicum Linn. had been broadly used for its reported biological activities in indigenous system of medicine. The ethanolic extract of the whole plant of A. indicum Linn. was evaluated for its anti-inflammatory activity at doses 250, 500 and 750?mg?kg?1 using the carrageenan-induced paw oedema in healthy Wistar albino rats. Results of in vivo activity led to the conclusion that the ethanolic extract of A. indicum showed predominantly significant activity in a dose-dependent manner, which is comparable to the reference standard ibuprofen. The results prove the traditional use of plant in the treatment of inflammation.     

Enhancing the hydrogen storage capacity of Pd-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes

We demonstrate that the hydrogen storage capacity of multi-walled carbon nanotubes can be enhanced by polyvinylpyrrolidone functionalization. The polyvinylpyrrolidone acts as a stabilizing agent for Pd-nanoparticles, reduces their size and facilitates their uniform and enhanced loading onto multi-walled carbon nanotubes. According to sorption studies, the polyvinylpyrrolidone capping and consequent nanostructural modification enables 2.3 times more hydrogen adsorption than mere Pd-functionalization of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Corresponding morphological changes before and after polyvinylpyrrolidone capping, characterized using Raman Spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, TEM and thermal analysis techniques, are also presented. The results contribute towards increasing the efficiency of hydrogen based sustainable energy sources.     

N,N,N,N-tetradentate Macrocyclic Ligand Based Selective Fluorescent Sensor for Zinc (II)

N,N,N,N-tetradentate macrocyclic ligand (L) has been synthesized by the condensation of benzil and semicarbazide and characterized. On excitation by light of wavelength 350?nm, L exhibited a fluorescent peak at λ(max)?=?454?nm, which showed ca 6 times enhancement in intensity with a blue shift on interaction with Zn(2+). L has been found to act as a selective fluorescent sensor for zinc(2+) ion over a host of other metal ions such as- Cd(2+), Pb(2+), Hg(2+), Ca(2+), Fe(2+), Na(2+), Co(2+), Mn(2+), Cu(2+) and Ni(2+), in 1:1 CH(3)OH:H(2)O. A 1:1 complex formation between L and Zn(2+) was proved. The enhancement in the fluorescence could be explained on the basis of Photo induced electron transfer (PET) mechanism with log β?=?1.86.
