Increased oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) is characteristic of atherosclerosis. In this frame, high density lipoproteins (HDL) play an important role, being able to remove lipid peroxides (LPOs) and cholesterol from oxidized LDL, so exhibiting a protective role against atherosclerosis. A wide range of reactive compounds lead to the oxidation of methionine (Met) residues with the formation of methionine sulphoxide (MetO) in apolipoprotein A‐I (ApoA‐I). Consequently, the determination of MetO level can give both an evaluation of oxidative stress and the reduced capability of ApoA‐I in LPOs and cholesterol transport. For these reasons, the development of analytical methods able to determine the MetO level is surely of interest, and we report here the results obtained by MALDI mass spectrometry. The activation of CS2 is of interest in a broad range of fields and, more particularly, in the context of creating new C−C bonds. The reaction of the dinuclear ytterbium(II) complex [Yb2L4], 1 , [L=(OtBu)3SiO−] with carbon disulfide led to the isolation of unprecedented reduction products. In particular, the crystallographic characterization of complex [Yb2L4(μ-C2S2)], 2 , provided the first example of an acetylenedithiolate ligand formed from metal reduction of CS2. The frontal ring opening metathesis polymerization (FROMP) of dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) in the presence of limonene, using second generation Grubbs’ catalysts, is reported. The effect of limonene on the amount of catalyst and the typical frontal polymerization parameters, as maximum temperature (Tmax) and velocity of the front (Vf), is studied. In addition, the influence of limonene on the mechanical properties of the polymeric samples is reported. Finally, a deep study on the swelling properties of polymers is done. It has been demonstrated that limonene acts as both inhibitor and solvent of the catalyst. The Tmax, Vf, Tg, and Young modulus values decrease as the amount of limonene increases, and the polymer samples swell in THF depending on the amount of limonene. All results indicate that the limonene addition on FROMP of results in advantages on the polymerization reaction and its parameters and on the final polymer properties. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
