Regio- and Stereochemical Aspects of the Palladium-Catalyzed Desilylation-Arylation of Substituted Vinylsilanes

The palladium-catalyzed desilylation-arylation of substituted vinylsilanes by p-iodoanisole in the presence of bidentate phosphine ligands is described. Apart from enhancing the rate of the reaction considerably, heteroatom-based functional groups in the vinylsilane moiety have a profound influence on the regiochemistry. A catalytic cycle for the chelation-controlled desilylation-arylation reaction involving five- and six-membered chelate rings is proposed.     

A borel-weil-bott approach to representations of sl q (2, ℂ)

We use a quite concrete and simple realization of sl _q (2, ) involving finite difference operators. We interpret them as derivations (in the noncommutative sense) on a suitable graded algebra, which gives rise to the noncommutative scheme ¹ II ^1* as the counterpart of the standard ¹ = Sl(2, )/B.     

Electron impact mass spectrometric investigation of pyrrole mono-, di- and tri-carboxylic acids

The electron impact-induced fragmentation processes of pyrrole-2-, -3-, -2,3-, -3,4-, -2,5- and -2,3,4-carboxylic acids were investigated with the aid of metastable ion, collisional and deuterium labelling experiments. The general behaviour of these compounds is discussed in detail, together with the reasonable structures of the more relevant fragment ions.     

Plasma deposition of thin films from a fluorine-containing cyclosiloxane

Thin films have been deposited from radio-frequency glow discharges fed with vapors of a silicon- and fluorine-containing organic compound, namely 2,4,6-tris[(3,3,3-trifluoropropyl) (methyl)] cyclotrisiloxane, in mixture with argon. 2,4,6-tris[(3,3,3-trifluoropropyl)(methyl)]cyclotrisiloxane A triode reactor has been utilized to deposit films by independently changing substrate temperature and bias-induced ion-bombardment. Laser interferometry, electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy have been used to monitor film growth rate and composition. Results unambiguously show an activating effect of the ion-bombardment, which confirm the validity of the ion-assisted deposition model utilized for the plasma deposition of both teflon- and silicone-like films. In our experiments, low substrate temperature and bias conditions results in films with a “monomer-like” stoichiometry, while drastic conditions give origin to materials with a completely different composition and a markedly increased hardness. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry of reaction products between C3O2 and stabilized phosphorus ylides

A fast atom bombardment (FAB) mass spectrometric study on the open-chain compound 1,3-bis(cyanomethylenetriphenylphosphorane)propane-1,3-dione and on the cyclic zwitterionic compounds 4-oxy-5-triphenylphosphonium-6-methyl-2-pyrone and 4-oxy-5-triphenylphosphonium-6-phenyl-2-pyrone, obtained by reaction of carbon suboxide, C₃O₂, with stabilized phosphorus ylides, Ph₃PCHX (X?CN, COMe, COPh), is described. The FAB mass spectrometric behaviour of these compounds is compared with that shown by tri-phenylphosphoranilideneketene, Ph₃P ? C ? C ? O, and by 4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2-pyrone, with the aid of metastable ion data and collision spectroscopy.     

Electron impact mass spectrometry of some macrocyclic polyether lactones

Electron impact mass spectrometry has been used together with linked scans, exact mass measurements and mass-analysed ion kinetic energy spectrometry to study nine inacrocyclic polyether lactones in detail. The presence of abundant hydrogenated oxirane ions has been observed for all the compounds examined, and confirmed by kinetic energy release measurements.     

Regiocontrolled synthesis of enantiopure 3,3'-thiosubstituted biphenyls

Sulfenylation of 6,6'-dimethoxy-2,2'-dihydroxybiphenyl, used as a racemic mixture and single enantiomers, by phthalimidesulfenyl chloride afforded the corresponding 3,3'-N,N'-dithiophthalimide with complete regioselectivity. Simple manipulations of the latter compound allowed access to the corresponding bis-thiol or o-thioquinone as useful intermediates for the synthesis of new sulfur-containing open-chain and macrocyclic C(2) enantiopure ligands. The application of this methodology to the preparation of a biphenyl bearing two cysteine units as potential HIV-1 protease inhibitor is also described.     

Synthesis, biological activity and modelling studies of two novel anti HIV PR inhibitors with a thiophene containing hydroxyethylamino core

An efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of a versatile intermediate bearing azido, hydroxyl and ester functions, a useful precursor for peptidomimetic compounds. The two main features for this synthesis were the use of the Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation on thiophene acrylate and the subsequent regioselective ring opening by sodium azide of the cyclic sulfite. Highly chemoselective reduction of the azido alcohol led to a key compound which was utilized for the synthesis of two analogues of commercial anti HIV PR such as nelfinavir and saquinavir. The biological activity and molecular modelling study on these two new potential drugs have been evaluated.
