We consider the melting of the vortex solid in highly anisotropic layered superconductors with a small concentration of random columnar pinning centers. Using large-scale numerical minimization of a free-energy functional, we find that melting of the low-temperature, nearly crystalline vortex solid (Bragg glass) into a vortex liquid occurs in two steps as the temperature increases: the Bragg glass and liquid phases are separated by an intermediate Bose glass phase. A suitably defined local melting temperature exhibits spatial variation similar to that observed in experiments. 相似文献

Direct numerical simulations of chevrons, blinking states, and repeated transients in binary fluid mixtures with a negative separation ratio heated from below are described. The calculations are performed in two-dimensional containers for experimental parameter values and boundary conditions. Quantitative agreement with the experiments of Kolodner [Phys. Rev. We consider a class of warped brane models with topology M
4 × × S1/Z
2, where is a D2-dimensional compact manifold, and two branes are placed at the orbifold fixed points. In a scenario where supersymmetry is broken not far below the cutoff scale, the hierarchy between the electroweak and the Planck scales is generated by a combination of the redshift and the large volume effects. We evaluate the effective potential induced by bulk scalar fields in these models and show that it can stabilize the moduli and the hierarchy without fine-tuning, provided that the internal space is flat. We also comment on the relation between these models and the five-dimensional scalar-tensor models that describe them classically when the compactification scale is small. 相似文献

The large and reversible photoinduced linear and circular birefringences in azo‐compounds are at the basis of the interest in these materials, which are potentially useful for several applications. Since the onset of the linear and circular anisotropies relies on orientational processes, which typically occur on the molecular and supramolecular length scale, respectively, a circular birefringence at least one order of magnitude lower than the linear one is usually observed. Here, the synthesis and characterization of an amorphous polymer with a dimeric repeating unit containing a cyanoazobenzene and a cyanobiphenyl moiety are reported, in which identical optical linear and circular birefringences are induced for proper light dose and ellipticity. A pump‐probe technique and an analytical method based on the Stokes–Mueller formalism are used to investigate the photoinduced effects and to evaluate the anisotropies. The peculiar photoresponse of the polymer makes it a good candidate for applications in smart functional devices.

We analyze the local density of states (LDOS) of heterostructures consisting of alternating ferromagnet, F, and superconductor, S, layers. We consider structures of the SFS and SFSFSFS type, with thin nanometer scale F and S layers, within the ballistic regime. The spin-splitting effects of the ferromagnet and the mutual coupling between the S regions, yield several nontrivial stable and metastable pair amplitude configurations, and we find that the details of the spatial behavior of the pair amplitude govern the calculated electronic spectra. These are reflected in discernible signatures of the LDOS. The roles that the magnetic exchange energy, interface scattering strength, and the Fermi wavevector mismatch each have on the LDOS for the different allowed junction configurations, are systematically investigated. 相似文献

Spectroscopic characterization and fabrication of Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of an azopolymer-pyridine (PAzPy) are reported. UV-visible absorption and fluorescence spectra, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, and Raman spectra were recorded. The vibrational assignment of the observed spectra is supported by a complete geometry optimization, followed by vibrational frequency and intensity computations of both the trans and cis forms of the monomer (AzPy) using density functional theory at the B3LYP 6-31G(d,p) level of theory. Langmuir monolayers of the polymer (PAzPy) were formed at the water-air interface, and LB films of high quality were formed onto solid substrates. An enantioselective two-step route to substituted benzo[a]- and indolo[2,3-a]quinolizidines has been developed. It consists of (i) a stereoselective cyclocondensation of a racemic or prochiral delta-oxo(di)ester with either (S)-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)alaninol or (S)-tryptophanol in a process involving a dynamic kinetic resolution and/or the differentiation of enantiotopic or diastereotopic ester groups, and (ii) a subsequent stereocontrolled cyclization on the aromatic ring taking advantage of the masked N-acyl iminium ion present in the resulting oxazolopiperidone lactams. 相似文献

We study triplet pairing correlations in clean ferromagnet (F)/superconductor (S) nanojunctions, via fully self-consistent solution of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. We consider FSF trilayers, with S being an s-wave superconductor, and an arbitrary angle alpha between the magnetizations of the two F layers. We find that contrary to some previous expectations, triplet correlations, odd in time, are induced in both the S and F layers in the clean limit. We investigate their behavior as a function of time, position, and alpha. The triplet amplitudes are largest at times on the order of the inverse Debye frequency, and at that time scale they are long-ranged in both S and F. The zero temperature condensation energy is found to be lowest when the magnetizations are antiparallel. 相似文献
