Electrophilic trisubstituted ethylenes, phenoxy ring-substituted methyl 2-cyano-3-phenyl-2-propenoates, RPhCH=C(CN)CO2CH3, where R is 4-(4-BrC6H5O), 2-(4-ClC6H5O), 3-(4-ClC6H5O), 4-(3-ClC6H5O), 4-(4-ClC6H5O), 4-(4-FC6H5O), 2-(3-CH3OC6H5O), 2-(4-CH3OC6H5O), 3-(4-CH3OC6H5O), 4-(4-CH3OC6H5O), 3-(4-CH3C6H5O) were prepared and copolymerized with styrene. The monomers were synthesized by the piperidine catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation of phenoxy ring-substituted benzaldehydes and methyl cyanoacetate, and characterized by CHN analysis, IR, 1H and 13C-NMR. All the ethylenes were copolymerized with styrene (M1) in solution with radical initiation (ABCN) at 70°C. The compositions of the copolymers were calculated from nitrogen analysis and the structures were analyzed by IR, 1H and 13C-NMR. The order of relative reactivity (1/r1) for the monomers is 4-(4-CH3OC6H5O) (6.07) > 3-(4-ClC6H5O) (3.38) > 3-(4-CH3OC6H5O) (2.78) > 4-(3-ClC6H5O) (2.77) > 2-(4-ClC6H5O) (2.29) > 3-(4-CH3C6H5O) (1.98) > 4-(4-FC6H5O) (1.92) > 4-(4-ClC6H5O) (1.89) > 2-(3-CH3OC6H5O) (1.39) > 2-(4-CH3OC6H5O) (0.90) > 4-(4-BrC6H5O) (0.77). Relatively high Tg of the copolymers in comparison with that of polystyrene indicates a decrease in chain mobility of the copolymer due to the high dipolar character of the trisubstituted ethylene monomer unit. Decomposition of the copolymers in nitrogen occurred in two steps, first in the 200-500°C range with residue (2.5-8.0% wt), which then decomposed in the 500-800°C range. 相似文献

The smallest fullerene to form in condensing carbon vapor has received considerable interest since the discovery of Buckminsterfullerene, C(60). Smaller fullerenes remain a largely unexplored class of all-carbon molecules that are predicted to exhibit fascinating properties due to the large degree of curvature and resulting highly pyramidalized carbon atoms in their structures. However, that curvature also renders the smallest fullerenes highly reactive, making them difficult to detect experimentally. Gas-phase attempts to investigate the smallest fullerene by stabilization through cage encapsulation of a metal have been hindered by the complexity of mass spectra that result from vaporization experiments which include non-fullerene clusters, empty cages, and metallofullerenes. We use high-resolution FT-ICR mass spectrometry to overcome that problem and investigate formation of the smallest fullerene by use of a pulsed laser vaporization cluster source. Here, we report that the C(28) fullerene stabilized by encapsulation with an appropriate metal forms directly from carbon vapor as the smallest fullerene under our conditions. Its stabilization is investigated, and we show that M@C(28) is formed by a bottom-up growth mechanism and is a precursor to larger metallofullerenes. In fact, it appears that the encapsulating metal species may catalyze or nucleate endohedral fullerene formation. 相似文献

Fringing coral reefs provide a unique opportunity to study shallow aquatic ecosystems. A fringing coral reef system located in close proximity to a developed region was considered in this study. In such an environment, the rate of decay of dissolved organic matter is high and the penetration of higher energy ultraviolet‐B (UVB) extends a greater influence on species diversity, particularly upon shallow benthic communities. Results from a 9 month subsurface UVB exposure measurement campaign performed at a site located on the southern Queensland coast (Hervey Bay, 25°S) are presented in this research. For this, a novel dosimetric technique was utilized to measure long‐term subsurface UVB exposures. The resultant data set includes exposure measurements made during the significant La Niña event of late 2010 which resulted in unprecedented high sea surface temperatures and severe flooding across eastern Australia, impacting upon the lagoon regions of the Great Barrier Reef and Queensland's southern estuaries, including the study site. The influence of season, diurnal tidal variation, cloud cover and solar zenith angle were analyzed over the campaign period. Mean minimum daylight water depth was found to be the most significant factor influencing subsurface UVB. 相似文献

Variable yields and glycosylation stereoselectivity were obtained for NIS/TfOH-medi- ated reaction of 4-methoxyphenyl 2,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-β-D-galactopyranoside and thiogalactosides bearing acetyl, benzoyl, 2,6-dimethoxylbenzoyl, 2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl, or 2,6-dichlorobenzoyl groups at the 2-positions and acetyl at the remainder. X-ray structures of 4-methylphenyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)-1-thio-β-D-galactopyr anoside and 4-methylphenyl 3,4-O-isopropylidene-2,6-di-O-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)-1-thio-β-D-galactopyranoside revealed slightly distorted 4 C 1 chair conformations. Variable temperature NMR revealed that activation of 4-methylphenyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)-1-thio-β-D-galactopyranoside afforded only dioxolenium ion, whereas 4-methylphenyl 3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-2-O-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)-1-thio-β-D-galactopyranoside gave a 1:1 mixture of dioxolenium ion and glycosyl triflate. However, the reaction intermediates formed from these deactivated donors do not influence the glycosylation stereoselectivity; instead, it is influenced by steric and electronic interactions at the transition states. 相似文献

Summary In this paper an application is presented of the median molecule workflow to the de novo design of novel molecular entities with a property profile of interest. Median molecules are structures that are optimised to be similar to a set of existing molecules of interest as an approach for lead exploration and hopping. An overview of this workflow is provided together with an example of an instance using the similarity to camphor and menthol as objectives. The methodology of the experiments is defined and the workflow is applied to designing novel molecules for two physical property datasets: mean molecular polarisability and aqueous solubility. Exposure of easily reduced aromatic bis(enones) 1a-1e to the methyl Gilman reagent Me(2)CuLi.LiI at 0 degrees C in tetrahydrofuran solvent provides the products of tandem conjugate addition-Michael cyclization, 2a-2e, along with the products of [2 + 2] cycloaddition, 3a-3e. Complete partitioning of the Gilman alkylation and [2 + 2] cycloaddition pathways may be achieved by adjusting the loading of the Gilman reagent, the rate of addition of the Gilman reagent, and the concentration of the reaction mixture. The Gilman alkylation manifold is favored by the rapid addition of excess Gilman reagent at higher substrate concentrations, while the [2 + 2] cycloaddition manifold is favored by slow addition of the same Gilman reagent at lower concentrations and loadings. Notably, [2 + 2] cycloaddition to form 3a-3e is catalytic in Gilman reagent. Kinetic data reveal that the ratio of 2a and 3a changes such that the cycloaddition pathway becomes dominant upon increased consumption of Gilman reagent. These data suggest a concentration-dependent speciation of the Gilman reagent and differential reactivity of the aggregates present at higher and lower concentrations. While the species present at higher concentration induce Gilman alkylation en route to products 2a-2e, the species present at lower concentration provide products of catalytic [2 + 2] cycloaddition, 3a-3e. Moreover, upon electrochemical reduction of the bis(enones) 1a-1e, or chemically induced single-electron transfer from arene anion radicals, the very same [2 + 2] cycloadducts 3a-3e are formed. The collective data suggest that [2 + 2] cycloadducts 3a-3e arising under Gilman conditions may be products of anion radical chain cyclobutanation that derive via electron transfer (ET) from the Me(2)CuLi.LiI aggregate(s) present at low concentration. These observations provide a link between the Gilman alkylation reaction and related ET chemistry and suggest these reaction paths are mechanistically distinct. This analysis is made possible by the recent observation that easily reduced bis(enones) are subject to intramolecular [2 + 2] cycloaddition upon cathodic reduction or chemically induced ET from arene anion radicals, and is herewith showcased as a novel method of testing for the intermediacy of enone anion radicals. 相似文献

The oxidation and enhanced detection of traditionally 'non-electroactive' amino acids at a single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) surface and at a nickel hydroxide film electrochemically deposited and generated upon the SWNT layer is reported. Different CNT are compared, with Nafion-dispersed SWNT offering the most favorable layer for constant-potential amperometric detection. Factors affecting the oxidation process, including the pH or applied potential, are assessed. The response of the SWNT-Nafion coated electrode compares favorably with that of copper and nickel disk electrodes under flow injection analysis (FIA) conditions. The electrodeposition of nickel onto the SWNT-Nafion layer (Ni-CNT) led to a dramatic enhancement of the analytical response (vs. that observed at the SWNT or nickel electrodes alone). The oxidative process at the Ni(OH)(2) layer has been studied and the increase in sensitivity rationalized. In the presence of amino acid the Ni-CNT layer undergoes an electrocatalytic process in which the amino acid reduces the newly formed NiO(OH) species. Furthermore, the attractive response of both the CNT and Ni-CNT layers has allowed these electrodes to be used for constant-potential FIA of various amino acids and indicates great promise for monitoring chromatographic effluents. Once again an improved signal was observed at the Ni-CNT electrode compared to nickel deposited upon a bare glassy carbon electrode (Ni-GC). 相似文献

The results detail a novel methodology for the electrochemical determination of ammonia based on its interaction with hydroquinone in DMF. It has been shown that ammonia reversibly removes protons from the hydroquinone molecules, thus facilitating the oxidative process with the emergence of a new wave at less positive potentials. The analytical utility of the proposed methodology has been examined with a linear range from 10 to 95 ppm and corresponding limit-of-detection of 4.2 ppm achievable. Finally, the response of hydroquinone in the presence of ammonia has been examined in the room temperature ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluormethylsulfonyl)imide, [EMIM][N(Tf)2]. Analogous voltammetric waveshapes to that observed in DMF were obtained, thereby confirming the viability of the method in either DMF or [EMIM][N(Tf)2] as solvent. 相似文献
