Perfluoroalkylated eight- and nine-membered benzoheterocycles from F-2-methyl-2-pentene

The reactions of $\text{F}$-2-methyl-2-pentene (1) with several $\text{ortho}$- difunctional benzenes afforded eight- and nine-membered benzoheterocyclic compounds carrying perfluoroalkyl groups. Salicylic acid, salicylaldehyde, and their methyl or chloro derivatives reacted in triethylamine-acetonitrile system giving perfluoroalkylated 2H,6H-1,5-benzodioxocin-2,6-dione (8) and 4H,6H-1,5-benzodioxocin (9) compounds respectively, while phthalyl alcohol and o-hydroxyphenethyl alcohol in triethylamine-diethyl ether system gave perfluoroalkylated 1H,3H,7H-2,6- and 4H,6H,7H-1,5-benzodioxonin compounds, (10) and (11). o-Aminobenzyl alcohol and (1) in diethyl ether afforded a perfluoroalkylated benzoxazocinobenzoxazocinone compound (15).     

Triplet quantum yield determination by photosensitized oxygenation in the presence of heavy atom additives: Rhodamine B in methanol

Relative rates of heavy-atom-enhanced photosensitized ¹O₂-reactions may be used to determine φ^o_T of sensitizers in heavy-atom-free solutions. φ^o_T = 0.12 ± 0.02 is obtained for a 5·10^?5 M methanolic solution of Rhodamine B .     

A facile and general route to 4-substituted-2 butenolides

Grignard reagents react with 7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride and produce in high yields the corresponding substituted bicyclo-γ-butanolides. These lactones produce the title compounds by retro Diels-Alder reaction during distillation.     

Shear deformation plate continua of large double layered space structures

A simple method is presented to model large rigid-jointed lattice structures as continuous elastic media with couple stresses using energy equivalence. In our analysis the transition from the discrete system to the continuous media is achieved by expanding the displacements and the rotations of the nodal points in a Taylor series about a suitable chosen origin. The strain energy of the continuous media with couple stresses is then specialized to obtain shear deformation plate continua. Equivalent continua for single layered grids, double layered grids and three-dimensional lattices are then obtained.     

Energy harvesting in a Mathieu–van der Pol–Duffing MEMS device using time delay

This paper investigates quasi-periodic vibration-based energy harvesting in a delayed nonlinear MEMS device consisting of a delayed Mathieu–van der Pol–Duffing type oscillator coupled to a delayed piezoelectric coupling mechanism. We use the multiple scales method to approximate the quasi-periodic response and the related power output near the principal parametric resonance. The effect of time delay on the energy harvesting performance is studied. It is shown that for appropriate combination of time delay parameters, there exists an optimum range of excitation frequency beyond the resonance where quasi-periodic vibration-based energy harvesting is maximum. Numerical simulations are performed to confirm the analytical predictions.     

Stability analysis of internally damped rotating composite shafts using a finite element formulation

This paper deals with the stability analysis of internally damped rotating composite shafts. An Euler–Bernoulli shaft finite element formulation based on Equivalent Single Layer Theory (ESLT), including the hysteretic internal damping of composite material and transverse shear effects, is introduced and then used to evaluate the influence of various parameters: stacking sequences, fiber orientations and bearing properties on natural frequencies, critical speeds, and instability thresholds. The obtained results are compared with those available in the literature using different theories. The agreement in the obtained results show that the developed Euler–Bernoulli finite element based on ESLT including hysteretic internal damping and shear transverse effects can be effectively used for the stability analysis of internally damped rotating composite shafts. Furthermore, the results revealed that rotor stability is sensitive to the laminate parameters and to the properties of the bearings.

The convective instability of a horizontal liquid layer confined in an annular Hele–Shaw cell subject to a constant rotation and submitted to a centrifugal gradient of temperature is investigated. Using a linear stability analysis, we study the effects of both Coriolis forces and curvature aspect on the stationary convective threshold when the Prandtl number is of the order of unity or larger than unity. We show that the Coriolis forces have a stabilizing effect, and the wave number is independent of these forces. However, a multicellular regime in the radial direction is observed for small Ekman numbers. The results related to the influence of the curvature are also shown. In order to resolve the convection terms in the simulation of coastal flows, we propose a numerical method based on the Total Variation Diminishing scheme completed with the Artificial Compression Method to reduce the artificial diffusion and to sharpen the tracer profile in strong gradient regions. This method was applied successfully at discontinuous regions, but out of these regions a limitation of its application is necessary. Reactions with heterocyclic amidines. VI. Synthesis and chemistry of pyrazol-5-yl,and 1,2,4-triazol-5-ylhydrazonyl chlorides

The 4-bromo-3-phenylpyrazol-5-ylhydrazonyl chlorides (Ia,b) and 1,2,4-triazol-5-ylhydrazonyl chlorides (IIa,b) were prepared via coupling of diazotized 4-bromo-3-phenyl-5-aminopyrazole (III) and 5-amino-1,2,4-triazole (IV) with α-chloro derivatives of acetylacetone and of ethyl aceto-acetate. Compounds Ia and IIa,b were utilised for the synthesis of several new heterocyclic derivatives.
