β-Lactam Derivatives as Enzyme Inhibitors: Peptidic Derivatives of ( RS )-2-Oxo-4-phenylazetidine-1-alkanoic Acids

4-Phenylazetidine-2-one was transformed into 4-phenylazetidine-1-alkanoic acids, which were reacted in the presence of diphenylphosphoroazidate with amino acid esters and dipeptide esters yielding β-lactam peptides with different spacers between the lactam ring and the peptide moiety. All structures were established by elementary analyses, HPLC, optical rotation, and spectroscopic data and all new compounds were tested as inhibitors of PPE using standard procedures. Four compounds exhibited a weak activity compared with the standard inhibitor trifluoroacetyl-l-val-l-tyr-l-val.     

NMR spectroscopic study of the inclusion complex of desloratadine with β-cyclodextrin in solution

Desloratadine (DES) is an antihistamine used in the treatment of allergies and chronic urticaria. ¹H NMR spectroscopic study of varying ratios of DES and β-Cyclodextrin (β-CD) in D₂O suggests the formation of a 1:1 inclusion complex formed by the penetration of Cl-substituted aromatic ring into the β-CD cavity. The stoichiometry and binding constant of the complex were determined by Scott’s method.     

Microwave Assisted Deprotection of N,N-Dimethylhydrazones in Water Using Palladium Chloride–Tin Chloride as Catalyst

Summary.  N,N-Dimethylhydrazones of ketones and aldehydes undergo facile cleavage to the corresponding carbonyl compounds upon exposure to microwaves in water containing a catalytic amount of PdCl₂–SnCl₂ in high yields. Spectrophotometric studies on the complexation equilibria of Ni and Pb with 2-carboxy-2-hydroxy-5'-sulfo-formazylbenzene. Simultaneous determination of trace amounts of Ni and Pb

Spectrophotometric studies have been made to investigate the reaction of Nickel and Lead with 2-carboxy-2'-hydroxy-5'-sulfoformazyl-benzene (zincon) in 50%(v/v) ethanol-water at 25 degrees C and an ionic strength of 0.1 M NaClO4. A complete picture of the complexation equilibria in the pH range (4.2-12.0) for nickel and (1.9-11.5) for lead are presented. Simple, rapid, selective and sensitive methods for the spectro-photometric determination of nickel and lead has been developed based on the color reaction of their complexes with zincon. The methods allow the determination of 4.69 microg mL(-1) of nickel at pH = 6.3 (lambdamax = 665 nm) and 10.3 microg ml(-1) of lead at pH = 5.6 (lambdamax = 610 nm). The apparent molar absorptivities were epsilon = 1.3 x 10(4) L mol(-1) cm(-1) for nickel and epsilon = 0.6 x 10(4) L mol(-1) cm(-1) for lead. The interference of a large number of foreign ions and complexing agents has been studied. Thiosulphate, as masking agent allows the simultaneous determination of nickel and lead in the presence of high concentrations of copper. Ascorbic acid, sodium cyanide and or sodium fluoride provide the elimination of many other interferences. The methods have been applied successfully to the simultaneous determination of nickel and lead in an aluminium and non-ferrous alloy.     

New theoretical expressions for the five adsorption type isotherms classified by BET based on statistical physics treatment

New theoretical expressions to model the five adsorption isotherm types have been established. Using the grand canonical ensemble in statistical physics, we give an analytical expression to each of five physical adsorption isotherm types classified by Brunauer, Emett, and Teller, often called BET isotherms. The establishment of these expressions is based on statistical physics and theoretical considerations. This method allowed estimation of all the mathematical parameters in the models. The physicochemical parameters intervening in the adsorption process that the models present could be deduced directly from the experimental adsorption isotherms by numerical simulation. We determine the adequate model for each type of isotherm, which fixes by direct numerical simulation the monolayer, multilayer, or condensation character. New equations are discussed and results obtained are verified for experimental data from the literature. The new theoretical expressions that we have proposed, based on statistical physics treatment, are rather powerful to better understand and interpret the various five physical adsorption type isotherms at a microscopic level.     

Dichotenone-a and -b: two new enones from the marine brown alga Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) Lamour

Marine brown alga Dictyota dichotoma (Dictyotaceae) collected from Karachi coast of Arabian Sea yielded two new (1 and 2) enones (dolastane-diterpenoids) named: dichotenone-A and -B along with an olide (loliolide, 3) as a new source. Their structures have been characterized with the aid of 2D-NMR spectroscopic techniques.     

Chemische Vitamin D<Subscript>3</Subscript>-Bestimmung in Lebertran

The different aspects of Vitamin D₃ determination and the data reported in the literature are discussed. The spectrophotometric determination of Vitamin D₃ in cod-liver oil is carried out after the alkaline saponification, extraction of unsaponified parts, precipitation of accompanying sterols and the column- and thin-layer chromatographic purification and separation of vitamin D₃ on 40 cm plates from other vitamins. The dyestuff α-naphtholbenzein is suited well as standard substance for the better location and identification of vitamin D₃ zone on the thin-layer plate. The results obtained from the chemical method were checked through the simultaneous biological determination.     

Heteropolynuclear Sodium(I) Lead(II) Complex: Crystal and Molecular Structure of a Novel 3‐D Polymer, [(en)Pb(μ3‐ONO)2Na(μ3‐ONO)2Na(μ‐O2ClO2)Na]n

A novel 3D polymeric heteropolynuclear sodium(I) lead(II) complex containing different ligands, [NaPb(ClO₄)(en)(NO₂)₂] was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR, and ¹H‐, ¹³C‐, and ²⁰⁷Pb‐NMR spectroscopy. The single‐crystal X‐ray data of [NaPb(ClO₄)(en)(NO₂)₂]_n established that the complex is a three‐dimensional polymer, [(en)Pb(μ₃‐ONO)₂Na(μ₃‐ONO)₂Na(μ‐O₂ClO₂)Na]_n. The Pb and Na atoms have four‐ and eight‐coordinate geometry, respectively. The lone pair of electrons at the Pb^II atom is ‘stereochemically active’.     

The unexpected rearrangement of 1,5‐benzodiazepin‐2,4‐dione to a benzimidazol‐2‐one derivative during N,N'‐diglucosylation

Reaction of 1,5‐benzodiazepin‐2,4‐dione with 3‐O‐substituted‐5,6‐anhydro‐1,2‐isopropylidene‐α‐D‐glucofuranose gave the unexpected N,N'‐di‐glucofuranosyl benzimidazol‐2‐one by a novel rearrangement and ring closure reaction. A mechanism is proposed.
