Spin-oriented projectile fragments: The first application tog-factor measurements

Ejectile nuclei in the fragmentation of intermediate-energy heavy-ion projectiles were found to be largely spin polarized. The observed polarization as a function of the outgoing momentum was nicely explained by a simple kinematical argument based on the participant-spectator model of projectile fragmentation. The measurements extended to cover several different targets, incident energies, exit channels, and emission angles revealed that substantial polarization shows up widely in projectile fragmentation reactions. Furthermore, this polarization exhibits an interesting behavior which may be interpreted as a manifestation of a gradual change in the deflection angle from positive to negative values as the energy increases and/or the target-Z decreases. The present polarization results also suggests various applications of spin polarized radioactive beams. As the first example of such an application, we present a recent result on theg-factor measurements on neutron-rich nuclei.     

Two New Syntheses of the Pyranojuglone Pigment α-Caryopterone

By a simple process, 3-methoxyjuglone (= 8-hydroxy-2-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone; 9 ) has been synthesized from 1,2,4-trimethoxybenzene ( 5 ) and converted, after prenylation, to α-caryopterone ( 1 ; Scheme 1), a pyranojuglone pigment from Caryopteris clandonensis. On the other hand, juglone (= 5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone; 12 ) was regioselectively prenylated at C(2) via its 1-methoxy-cyclohexa-1,3-diene adduct 15 (Scheme 2). The 2-prenyljuglone ( 4 ) thus formed led to 1 after oxidation and other reactions.     

寻找超高能宇宙线源——西藏广延空气簇射实验

总结了１９９０年６月到１９９３年１０月期间西藏空气簇射阵列的观测结果。寻找了来自于蟹状星云、Ｘ射线双星、脉冲星、活动星系核和其它活动天体的能量为１０ＴｅＶγ射线连续发射，没有发现连续稳定发射的迹象，但给出了每个源的流强上限。在阵列所观测的天区寻找了１０ＴｅＶ的γ暴，结果没有发现能量１０ＴｅＶ的γ暴，最后也给出了发现此种γ暴的上限。应用该阵列，明显地观测到了能量为１０ＴｅＶ的宇宙线流强的太阳和月亮阴影。观测了朝向和远离太阳的行星际空间磁场对宇宙线阴影的影响，这是行星际磁场对阴影位移影响的第一次直接观测。研究并发现在实验期间，太阳阴影的位置每年都在变化。同时观测在此期间，朝向和远离方向的宇宙线阴影的不同变化。另外，应用该实验的数据，给出了所谓的“膝”区的原初宇宙线能谱。     

Fragmentation of doubly charged noble metal clusters

The dissociation patterns of doubly charged noble metal clusters (M) _n ⁺⁺ to two singly charged clusters, (M) _m ^Emphasis>1/+ and (M) _m ^Emphasis>2/+ have been investigated using a double focusing mass spectrometer. They are compared with the dissociation patterns from singly charged clusters. The dissociation probabilities to (M) ₃ ⁺ and (M) ₉ ⁺ were large and the odd-even alternations were observed in both patterns.     

Hexagonally ordered mesoporous ternary Li2O-TiO2-P2O5 oxides with high lithium content

Hexagonally ordered mesoporous Li2O-TiO2-P2O5 oxides with high lithium content have been synthesized using surfactant-templated self-assembly; this ternary oxide has been specifically designed to yield a variety of mesoporous frameworks including a nanocomposite, amorphous multicomponent oxide, and almost fully nanocrystalline anatase.     

Steric-control for the enantioselective hydrolysis of amino acid esters in hybrid membrane systems

The enantioselective hydrolysis of the amino acid esters, p-nitrophenyl-N-dodecanoyl-D(L)-phenylalaninates (C(12)-D(L)-Phe-PNP) catalyzed by active tripeptide, N-(benzyloxycarbonyl)-L-phenylalanyl-L-histidyl-L-leucine (Z-PheHisLeu) in the presence of coaggregates (hybrid membranes) composed of native phospholipid, L-alpha-dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) and nonionic surfactant, polyoxyethylene (8) lauryl ether (C(12)(EO)(8)) was easily controlled by regulating the reaction temperature and changing the composition of coaggregates. Furthermore, excellent correlations were observed between the enantioselectivity in the hydrolysis of C(12)-D(L)-Phe-PNP catalyzed by Z-PheHisLeu in the presence of coaggregates and physical properties of hybrid membranes. It is assumed that catalytic activities of tripeptide catalyst in hybrid membranes should be regulated by changing the microenvironments of reaction fields.     

Photon angular distribution of Radiative Electron Capture into the M shell of He-like uranium ions at 110–140 MeV/u

Measurements of the photon angular distribution of Radiative Electron Capture into the M shell have been performed with He-like uranium ions in the range 110–140 MeV/u. In addition, L REC was studied at a projectile energy of 140 MeV/u. In both cases, the experimental data show an asymmetry around 90° and agree well with a fully relativistic theory.
