For polymer electrolyte membrane fuel membrane cell (PEMFC) applications, the effect of electron-withdrawing groups on the properties of sulfonated poly(arylene ether) (SPE) ionomer membranes was investigated. A series of poly(arylene ether)s containing fluorenyl groups and electron-withdrawing groups (sulfone, nitrile, or fluorine) was synthesized, which were sulfonated with chlorosulfonic acid using a flow reactor to obtain the title ionomers. The ionomers had high molecular weight (M> 77 kDa, Mw > 238 kDa) and gave tough, ductile membranes by solution casting. The ion exchange capacity (IEC) of the membranes ranged from 1.6 to 3.5 mequiv/g as determined by titration. The electron-withdrawing groups did not appear to affect the thermal properties (decomposition temperature higher than 200 °C). The presence of nitrile groups, especially at positions meta to the ether linkages, improved the oxidative stability of the SPE membranes, while it led to a deterioration of the hydrolytic stability. The perfluorinated biphenylene groups were effective in providing high mechanical strength with reasonable dimensional change, probably due to a somewhat decreased water absorbability. The SPE membrane containing sulfone groups showed the highest proton conductivity (10−3-10−1 S/cm) at 20-93% RH (relative humidity) and 80 °C. The nitrile-containing SPE membrane showed smaller apparent activation energies for oxygen and hydrogen permeability and is thus considered to be a possible candidate for applications in PEMFCs.  相似文献

A microchip pressure-driven liquid chromatography (LC) with a packed column and an electrochemical flow cell has been developed by using polystyrene (PS) and poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). The cylindrical separation column with packed octadecyl silica particles was fabricated in the PS substrate. The three electrode system (working, reference, and counter electrode) for amperometric detection was fabricated onto the PS substrate, using the Au deposition, photolithography, and chemical etching. The detector flow cell was formed by sealing the electrode system with a PDMS chip containing a channel. In this flow cell, the effect of working electrode width (in the direction of flow) on chromatographic parameters, such as peak width and peak resolution were studied in electrode width ranging 50-5,000 microm. The effect of electrode width on sensitivity (current intensity, current density, and S/N ratio) was also examined. The sensitivity was discussed by simulating the concentration profile generated around the working electrode. The effects of the column packing size and the column size on the separation efficiency were examined. In this study, a good separation of three catechins was successfully achieved and the detection limits for (+)-catechin, epicatechin, and epigallocatechin gallate were 350, 450, and 160 nM, respectively.  相似文献

It was found that amines were formed efficiently by the photolysis of O-acyloximes followed by hydrolysis in polystyrene films and the relationship between structures of O-acyloximes and yields of amines were investigated. O-phenylacetyl acetophenone oxime (PaApO), O-pivaloyl acetophenone oxime (PApO), and O-benzoyl acetophenone oxime (BApO) as monofunctional O-acyloximes and O,O′-succinyl diacetophenone oxime (SDApO) and O,O′-glutaryl diacetophenone oxime (GDApO) as bifunctional O-acyloximes were examined. The yields of amines for PaApO and SDApO under N2 were ca. 70%, which was the highest among O-acyloximes examined in this experiment. On the other hand, the yields for PApO, BApO, and GDApO were less than 15% and it was verified that the hydrogen abstraction by imino radicals via 6-membered cyclic intermediates resulted in the lowering of yields. Although the effect of oxygen under photolysis on the yields of amine for PaApO was negligible under 50% conversion of PaApO, the yield decreased with further increase in the conversion and was 50% at 90% conversion. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-cavitand 1 and tetra(4-pyridyl)-cavitand 2 self-assemble into a heterodimeric capsule 1.2 via four ArOH...pyridyl hydrogen bonds in CDCl3. The 1.2 expresses the orientational isomerism of an encapsulated unsymmetrical guest with high orientational selectivity because the electronic environment of the 1 unit is different from that of the 2 unit. For p-ethoxyiodobenzene and 2-iodo-6-methoxynaphthalene encapsulated in 1.2, the iodo group is specifically oriented to the cavity of the 2 unit. The orientational isomeric selectivity for methyl p-acetoxybenzoate and methyl p-ethoxybenzoate within 1.2 is 1:0.11 and 1:<0.05, respectively, wherein the methyl ester group is preferentially oriented to the cavity of the 2 unit. The delicate balance among electrostatic potential repulsion, CH-pi interaction, or CH-halogen (halogen-pi) interaction, in 1.2-guest assembly influences the orientational isomeric selectivity of unsymmetrical guests within 1.2.  相似文献

Palladium-diethylzinc or palladium-triethylborane catalytically promotes self-allylation of 2-(allyloxy)tetrahydrofurans, 2-(allyloxy)tetrahydropyrans, and their hydroxy derivatives on the rings (ribose, glucose, mannose, deoxyribose, deoxyglucose). All the reactions proceed at room temperature and provide polyhydroxyl products, sharing a structural motif of a homoallyl alcohol, in good to excellent yields with high levels of stereoselectivity. Useful C3-unit elongation, which makes the best use of an allyl ether as a protecting group and a nucleophilic allylation agent, is demonstrated. Mechanisms for the umpolung reaction (of an allyl ether into an allylic anion) and stereoselectivity associated with allylation of aldehydes are discussed.  相似文献

Proton conductive inorganic–organic hybrid membranes were synthesized from dimethylethoxyvinylsilane (DMEVS), vinylphosphonic acid (VPA) and 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) through copolymerization followed by sol–gel process. The ratio of phosphorus to silicon in the copolymer almost corresponded to the charged molar ratio of VPA to DMEVS when the ratio of VPA to DMEVS was below 1/2. Self-standing, homogeneous, highly transparent membranes were synthesized from DMEVS–VPA copolymer and GPTMS via sol–gel condensation. Differential thermal analysis-thermogravimetry analyses indicated that these membranes were thermally stable up to 200 °C. The results of Fourier transform infrared and 13C NMR revealed that phosphonic acid groups of VPA were chemically bound to organosiloxane network. The copolymerization and condensation of (DMEVS–VPA)/GPTMS were confirmed by 31P and 29Si NMR spectra. The proton conductivity of the hybrid membranes increased with phosphonic acid content. The membrane of (DMEVS–VPA)/GPTMS showed a remarkable conductivity of 6.3 × 10−2 S cm−1 at 130 °C and 100% relative humidity.  相似文献
