The present study investigated the essential oil obtained from Campomanesia guazumifolia (Cambess.) O. Berg, an aromatic plant used in Brazilian folk medicine. The chemical composition was performed by GC×GC/qMS. The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities were evaluated by DPPH and BCB and, MIC assays, respectively. Sixty-eight compounds were identified in the oil, where the major compounds were bicyclogermacrene (15%), globulol (5%) and spathulenol (5%). Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (29 compounds) and oxygenated sesquiterpenes (20 compounds) were the most representative classes of terpenes. DPPH (IC50 value 26.1 ± 0.5 μg/mL) and BCB (68.3 ± 1.5%) values indicated a significant antioxidant activity. The essential oil strongly inhibited Staphylococcus aureus (MIC 15 ± 0.1 μg/mL), Escherichia coli (MIC 25 ± 0.2 μg/mL) and Candida albicans (MIC 5 ± 0.1 μg/mL). The results give a deeper understanding of the chemical composition and report for the first time the antioxidant and antimicrobial potential of the C. guazumifolia essential oil. 相似文献

The porosity of lignocellulosic materials is a key feature for the enzymatic hydrolysis of the constituent polysaccharides, being affected by its drying and lignin content. Here we evaluated the influence of both parameters in the porosity of sugarcane bagasse, using raw and chlorite-delignified samples. A fraction of these samples was air dried at room temperature and the remainder one was kept wet. All the samples were subjected to porometry (solute exclusion technique), determination of water retention value and assessment of enzymatic saccharification of polysaccharides. Samples with higher lignin contents had lower porosities and exhibited worse enzymatic conversions of polysaccharides. Mild drying collapsed only the smaller pores, which already were inaccessible to enzymes, and therefore did not affect the efficiencies of saccharification. Our results show that the lignin content plays an important role in the porosity of the material and that its removal improves the enzymatic saccharification of the constituent polysaccharides. 相似文献

Composite electrodes of vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNT) were synthesized on carbon fiber (CF) substrate by pyrolysis of camphor/ferrocene using a SiO2 interlayer as a barrier against metal diffusion into the substrate. Two treatments were used to remove iron from CF/VACNT structure: thermal annealing at high temperature under inert atmosphere and electrochemical oxidation in H2SO4 solution. The composites were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Raman scattering spectroscopy. Besides, the electrochemical behavior of CF/VACNT was analyzed by cyclic voltammetry and charge/discharge tests. CF/VACNT composite submitted to the electrochemical oxidation showed the best electrochemical performance, with high specific capacitance, which makes it very attractive as electrode for supercapacitors. 相似文献

In contrast to the highly-selective channels of neurophysiology employing mostly the exclusion mechanism, different factors account for the selectivity of large channels. Elucidation of these factors is essential for understanding the permeation mechanisms in ion channels and their regulation in vivo. The interaction between divalent cations and a protein channel, the bacterial porin OmpF, has been investigated paying attention to the channel selectivity and its dependence on the solution pH. Unlike the experiments performed in salts of monovalent cations, the channel is now practically insensitive to pH, being anion selective all over the pH range considered. Electrostatic calculations based on the available structural data suggest that the binding of divalent cations has two main effects: (i) the pK(a) values of key ionizable groups differ significantly from those of the isolated groups in solution and (ii) the cation binding has a decisive impact on the effective electric charge regulating the channel selectivity. A simple molecular model based on statistical thermodynamics provides additional qualitative explanations to the experimental findings that could also be useful for other related systems like synthetic nanopores, ion exchange membranes, and polyelectrolyte multilayers. 相似文献

A two-dimensional array of gold nanotriangles inscribed onto glass coverslips were optimized for the surface-enhanced Raman detection of streptavidin/biotin monolayer assemblies. The nanostructures were fabricated by electron beam lithography, and its optical parameters were optimized to be probed under a Raman microscope with a linearly polarized He-Ne laser with an excitation wavelength of λ = 632.8 nm. The platforms were first tested against a monolayer of biotinylated alkanethiols (BAT) functionalized over the gold nanostructure, showing that good-quality spectra could be acquired with a short acquisition time. The supramolecular interaction of streptavidin (strep) with BAT showed subsequent modification of the Raman spectrum that implies a change in the secondary structure of the host biomolecule (streptavidin). Compared to gold surfaces without nanoscale structures, the local enhancement that results from our nanostructured surfaces allows one to detect the vibrational signal of monolayers within a time on the order of seconds and under modest laser intensity, further demonstrating the utility of using plasmonic metallic nanostructures for molecular recognition. 相似文献

Understanding electron transport across π-π-stacked systems will help to answer fundamental questions about biochemical redox processes and benefit the design of new materials and molecular devices. Herein we employed the STM break-junction technique to measure the single-molecule conductance of multiple π-π-stacked aromatic rings. We studied electron transport through up to four stacked benzene rings held together in an eclipsed fashion via a paracyclophane scaffold. We found that the strained hydrocarbons studied herein couple directly to gold electrodes during the measurements; hence, we did not require any heteroatom binding groups as electrical contacts. Density functional theory-based calculations suggest that the gold atoms of the electrodes bind to two neighboring carbon atoms of the outermost cyclophane benzene rings in η(2) fashion. Our measurements show an exponential decay of the conductance with an increasing number of stacked benzene rings, indicating a nonresonant tunneling mechanism. Furthermore, STM tip-substrate displacement data provide additional evidence that the electrodes bind to the outermost benzene rings of the π-π-stacked molecular wires. 相似文献

This paper reviews literature information on the behaviour of semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in the indoor environment,
as well as the most likely emission sources. The consecutive stages of analytical procedures used for monitoring SVOCs in
indoor environments are described. The most common approaches used for collecting samples from the gas and particulate phases
are mentioned. The paper discusses and compares various types of sorbents and filters applied in dynamic, passive and denudational
techniques, as well as the techniques used to liberate the SVOCs, including Soxhlet, sonication and microwave extraction.
The main advantages and disadvantages of each technique are discussed, together with possible future trends. The approaches
commonly used during the final determination step, such as gas chromatography and liquid chromatography, are presented together
with their possible drawbacks, and ways of eliminating them are suggested. The review makes brief reference to the effects
of human exposure to SVOCs in house dust and discusses the main aspects of the analytical procedures used to monitor the presence
