Determination of the valence of manganese and iron in Mn- and MnZn-ferrites from the shift in x-ray absorption K-edges

The concept of effective coordinate charge is used to show that the relative shift in the K absorption edge of ions of transition metals in simple oxides and ferrites is determined by their valence. Formulas are obtained linking the shortwave shift of the K-edge with the valence of the ions in ferrites having the structure of a spinel. A method is proposed for determining the mean valence of ions of iron and manganese in manganese-bearing ferrites. 1-Azaspiro[3.3]heptane as a Bioisostere of Piperidine**

1-Azaspiro[3.3]heptanes were synthesized, characterized, and validated biologically as bioisosteres of piperidine. The key synthesis step was thermal [2+2] cycloaddition between endocyclic alkenes and the Graf isocyanate, ClO₂S−NCO, to give spirocyclic β-lactams. Reduction of the β-lactam ring with alane produced 1-azaspiro[3.3]heptanes. Incorporation of this core into the anesthetic drug bupivacaine instead of the piperidine fragment resulted in a new patent-free analogue with high activity.

Solution of a three-dimensional boundary-value problem for a fractional differential heat conduction equation

We consider a three-dimensional axisymmetric problem for a differential heat conduction equation with fractional time derivatives. Using the method of homogeneous solutions and integral transformations, we obtain an asymptotic and a numerical solution of the problem. The results of calculations are presented.
