Coal ash as an absorbent to remove SO2, and its activity change in NO?NH3 reaction

After being activated with NaOH aqueous solution, coal ash showed a maximal sorption capacity of about 2 cm³ SO₂/g ash. Catalytic activity of coal ash for the NO–NH₃ reaction was gradually depressed by the presence of a small amount of SO₂. SEM photographs and X-ray diffractograms of the ash samples gave additional information about the physico-chemical structure of the ashes.

Aliphatic claisen rearrangement promoted by organoaluminium compounds

Treatment of allyl vinyl ether derivatives with organoaluminiumamphoteric reagent, R₃Al or R₂AlSPn, results in the title reaction at room temperature under uptake of R, H, or SPh as a nucleophile on the aldehydic carbon.     

Synthesis of polymers by using divalent metal salts of mono(hydroxyethyl) phthalate: Metal-containing polyurethane-ureas

A series of metal-containing polyurethane-ureas containing ionic links in the main chain was synthesized by the polyaddition reaction of hexamethylene diisocyanate with mixtures of metal salts of mono(hydroxyethyl) phthalate and bisureas containing two hydroxyl groups which were obtained from monoethanolamine and diisocyanates. The polyurethane-ureas obtained were generally yellowish powders or solids. Close agreement between observed and calculated values of metal content of the metal-containing polyurethane-ureas was obtained. The viscosities (in dimethylformamide) of polyurethane-ureas decreased markedly with increase of metal content. Moreover, the decomposition temperatures were lowered a little by introducing metals into the polyurethane-ureas. Dimethylformamide, m-cresol, and dimethyl sulfoxide were comparatively good solvents for the metal-containing polyurethane-ureas; however, the polymers were insoluble in all other solvents.     

Selective oxidation with t-butyl hydroperoxide and aluminium reagents

Stereoselective epoxidation of allylic alcohols is achieved with organoaluminium peroxides. Transformation of secondary alcohols to ketones with same reagents is also disclosed.     

The catalytic action of trimethylgallium on the reaction of alkynyllithium with epoxides

Trimethylgallium catalyzes the reaction of 1-lithio-1-alkynes with epoxides affording 3-alkyn-1-ols in good to excellent yields.
