The effect of hydrodynamic interaction on the separation dependence of the center of mass and relative pair diffusion coefficients of colloid particles in a quasi-one-dimensional system, including the influence of proximate walls, is calculated using the method of reflections. There is excellent agreement between the theoretical predictions and the experimental data. We show that the separation dependence of the relative pair diffusion coefficient has an oscillatory structure on the scale length of the correlation length in the system, and we directly relate that oscillatory structure to the pair correlation function of the system.  相似文献

In multi-period insurance contracts (such as automobile insurance contracts), unlike single-period ones, the premiums that the insured must pay increase whenever he files a claim. Hence, the buyer faces a problem that is absent in one-period models, namely: he must determine for which damages he should file a claim and for which he should not.The optimal claims policy of the buyer is presented for a large class of insurance contracts. It is shown that the buyer will file a claim only if it is larger than some critical value. Based on this it is shown that the buyer prefers a contract that provides full coverage above a deductible for damages that exceed his critical value. In this case the optimal contract is not unique since the buyer is indifferent to the form of the contract for damages below his critical value. It is shown, however, that as in one-period models (Arrow (1963, 1974)) there exists an optimal contract that provides full coverage above a deductible. In multi-period setting, however, the buyer will file a claim only if the damage is sufficiently higher than the deductible.It is also shown that the buyer prefers a strictly positive deductible. Unlike the one-period case (Mossin (1968)), this result holds true even if the premium rates equal the expected payments.  相似文献

We show that baryon-antibaryon annihilations into mesons contribute, via unitarity, mainly to the pomeron term in the total BB cross section. The meson-exchange term is mainly built by non-annihilation processes. These results are contrary to previous ideas according to which BB annihilations are responsible for the difference between σtot(BB) and σtot(BB) and contribute to the meson exchange term. Our conclusions are based on an explicit duality diagram model which we discuss in some detail. However, a much wider class of models give similar results. Experimental tests of our ideas are proposed.  相似文献

A photogalvanic cell composed of two half cells of the type [Rb-THF]I and [Rb-THF, crown ether (or kryptand)]II is reported. Photocurrents and photovoltages, recorded at low temperatures, in the order of 6 nA and 80 mV, respectively are obtained with light excitation at wavelenghts above 640 nm. The corresponding values with excitation above 320 nm, are 30 nA and 250 mV, respectively.  相似文献

We prove, by an elementary reflection method, without the use of forcing, that ZFGC (ZF with a global choice function) is a conservative extension of ZFC and that every model of ZFC whose ordinals are cofinal (from the outside) withω can be expanded to a model of ZFGC (without adding new members). Abstract— The photoreduction of free base porphyrins by tertiary amines in the visible spectral range leads to the formation of chlorin. The increase of the apparent first order rates to yield chlorin is correlated with the inductive effect on the nitrogen of the amine used. A mechanism involving a charge transfer interaction between the photoexcited singlet of the prophyrin and the amine is proposed. The porphyrin radicals formed recombine to form a light sensitive dimer which disproportionates in the dark to yield chlorin and porphyrin. The mechanism is elucidated by the use of EPR, laser and flash photolysis.  相似文献

We review the physics of quarks and leptons within the framework of gauge theories for the weak and electromagnetic interactions. The Weinberg-Salam SU(2) × U(1) theory is used as a “reference point” but models based on larger gauge groups, especially SU(2)L × SU(2)R × U(1), are discussed. We distinguish among thre “generations” of fundamental fermions: The first generation (e?, νe, u, d), the second generation (μ?, νμ, c, s) and the third generation (τ?, ντ, t, b). For each generation we discuss the classification of all fermions, the charged and neutral weak currents, possible right-handed currents, parity and CP-violation, fermion masses and Cabibbo-like angles and related problems. We review theoretical ideas as well as experimental evidence, emphasizing open theoretical problems and possible experimental tests. The possibility of unifying the weak, electromagnetic and strong interactions in a grand unification scheme is reviewed. The problems and their possible solutions are presented, generation by generation, but a brief subject-index (following the table of contents) enables the interested reader to follow any specific topic throughout the three generations.  相似文献

The steady-state distribution of circulating power in coupled, unidirectional ring resonators containing a diode-pumped laser crystal and nonlinear optical elements is computed. The full set of transcendental nonlinear equations describing the interactions between the circulating power and the optical elements is solved by a numerical root find function of a commercial mathematics software. The method allows computation of the output of sequential nonlinear processes such as laser gain, second harmonic generation and optical parametric amplification as a function of the input diode pump power. It is also possible to optimize the nonlinear interaction by selecting the optimum interaction cross-section or crystal length. The circulating power may thereby be re-distributed to obtain the lowest possible passive loss.  相似文献

The solution of the Saint-Venant’s Problem for a slender compound piezoelectric beam presented in this paper generalizes the recent solution by the authors and E. Harash (J. Appl. Mech. 11:1–10, 2007) for a homogeneous piezoelectric beam and the solution for a compound elastic beam developed by O. Rand and the first author (Analytical Methods in Anisotropic Elasticity with Symbolic Computational Tools, Birkhauser, Boston, 2005). Justification for this approximation emerges from the St. Venant’s Principle. The stress, strain and (electrical) displacement components (“solution hypothesis”) are presented as a set of initially assumed expressions involving twelve tip loading parameters, six unknown weight coefficients, and three pairs of torsion/bending functions of two variables. Each pair of functions satisfies the so-called coupled non-homogeneous Neumann problem (CNNP) in the cross-sectional domain. The work develops concepts of the torsion/bending functions, the torsional rigidity and piezoelectric shear center, the tip coupling matrix, for a compound piezoelectric beam. Examples of exact and approximate solutions for rectangular laminated beams made of transtropic materials are presented.   相似文献
