The Diels‐Alder reaction as a click reaction strategy is applied to the preparation of well‐defined polycarbonate (PC)‐block copolymers. A well‐defined α‐anthracene‐terminated polycarbonate (PC‐anthracene) is prepared using 9‐anthracene methanol as an initiator in the ring opening polymerization of benzyl 5‐methyl‐2‐oxo‐1,3‐dioxane‐5‐carboxylate in CH2Cl2 at room temperature for 5 h. Next, a well‐defined α‐furan protected maleimide‐terminated‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG11‐MI or PEG37‐MI), ‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA26‐MI), and ‐poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL27‐MI) were clicked with the PC‐anthracene at reflux temperature of toluene to yield their corresponding PC‐based block copolymers (PC‐b‐PEG, PC‐b‐PMMA, and PC‐b‐PCL). In this study, two types of hyperbranched (HB) polythioether could readily be achieved in a short time at ambient temperature through a thiol-Michael addition reaction. Dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMADC) or methyl propiolate (A2) and trimethylolpropane tris(3-mercaptopropionate) (B3) monomers were reacted using an organobase 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD) as a catalyst in chloroform at room temperature to provide subsequent HB polythioethers. The effect of TBD concentration on the polymerization was studied for the DMDAC case monitoring the molecular weight evolution against time. HB polythioethers were characterized using spectroscopic (nuclear magnetic resonance) and chromatographic (gel permeation chromatography with refractive index and light-scattering detectors) techniques. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Two different oxanorbornene monomers were prepared and copolymerized with butyl-functionalized oxanorbornene monomer through the ring-opening metathesis polymerization. The resulting polymers were then subjected to the aminolysis reactions with propylamine (PA) in the presence of methyl acrylate (MA) to capture, in situ, the latent thiol. It was found that the polymer, in which the thiolactone unit is close to the polymer backbone, did not undergo an efficient aminolysis reaction even an excess amount of PA was utilized, while the other polymer, in which the thiolactone unit away from the polymer backbone, did efficiently undergo aminolysis reaction even PA was used in low amounts. Besides, a variety of primary amine compounds along with MA were reacted with the polymer, in which the thiolactone group away from the polymer backbone, to test their reactivity toward the aminolysis reactions. All modified polymers were characterized by using conventional instruments such as gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance, and differential scanning calorimetry. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aliphatic polycarbonate (PC) copolymer is synthesized by ring opening copolymerization of acrylate‐ and allyl‐functional cyclic carbonate monomers. The post‐polymerization functionalization of the resulting copolymer is performed quantitatively using a variety of thiol compounds via sequential Michael addition and photo‐induced radical thiol‐ene click reactions within relatively short reaction time at ambient temperature. The electric grid in the United States has been suffering from underinvestment for years, and now faces pressing challenges from rising demand and deteriorating infrastructure. High congestion levels in transmission lines are greatly reducing the efficiency of electricity generation and distribution. In this paper, we assess the faults of the current electric grid and quantify the costs of maintaining the current system into the future. While the proposed "smart grid" contains many proposals to upgrade the ailing infrastructure of the electric grid, we argue that smart meter installation in each U.S. household will offer a significant reduction in peak demand on the current system. A smart meter is a device which monitors a household's electricity consumption in real-time, and has the ability to display real-time pricing in each household. We conclude that these devices will provide short-term and long-term benefits to utilities and consumers. The smart meter will enable utilities to closely monitor electricity consumption in real-time, while also allowing households to adjust electricity consumption in response to real-time price adjustments.  相似文献

The aliphatic polyurethane with pendant anthracene moieties (PU‐anthracene) was prepared from polycondensation of anthracen‐9‐yl methyl 3‐hydroxy‐2‐(hydroxymethyl)‐2‐methylpropanoate (anthracene diol), 1 with hexamethylenediisocyanate in the presence of dibutyltindilaurate in CH2Cl2 at room temperature for 10 days. Thereafter, the PU‐anthracene (Mn,GPC = 12,900 g/mol, Mw/Mn = 1.87, relative to PS standards) was clicked with a linear α‐furan protected‐maleimide terminated‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA‐MI) (Mn,GPC = 2500 g/mol, Mw/Mn = 1.33), or ‐poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐MI) (Mn,GPC = 550 g/mol, Mw/Mn = 1.09), to result in well‐defined PU‐graft copolymers, PU‐g‐PMMA (Mn,GPC = 23800 g/mol, Mw/Mn = 1.65, relative to PS standards) or PU‐g‐PEG (Mn,GPC = 11,600 g/mol, Mw/Mn = 1.45, relative to PS standards) using Diels–Alder reaction in dioxane/toluene at 105 °C. The Diels–Alder grafting efficiencies were found to be over 93–99% using UV spectroscopy. Well‐defined linear furan‐protected maleimide‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG‐MI), tetramethylpiperidine‐1‐oxyl‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL‐TEMPO), and azide‐terminated polystyrene (PS‐N3) or ‐poly(N‐butyl oxanorbornene imide) (PONB‐N3) were ligated to an orthogonally functionalized core ( 1 ) in a two‐step reaction mode through triple click reactions. In a first step, Diels–Alder click reaction of PEG‐MI with 1 was performed in toluene at 110 °C for 24 h to afford α‐alkyne‐α‐bromide‐terminated PEG (PEG‐alkyne/Br). As a second step, this precursor was subsequently ligated with the PCL‐TEMPO and PS‐N3 or PONB‐N3 in N,N‐dimethylformamide at room temperature for 12 h catalyzed by Cu(0)/Cu(I) through copper‐catalyzed azide‐alkyne cycloaddition and nitroxide radical coupling click reactions, yield resulting ABC miktoarm star polymers in a one‐pot mode. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The binding affinity and specificity of heparin to proteins is widely recognized to be sulfation-pattern dependent. However, for the majority of heparin-binding proteins (HBPs), it still remains unclear what moieties are involved in the specific binding interaction. Here, we report our study using saturation transfer difference (STD) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to map out the interactions of synthetic heparin oligosaccharides with HBPs, such as basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF2) and fibroblast growth factor 10 (FGF10), to provide insight into the critical epitopes of heparin ligands involved. The irradiation frequency of STD NMR was carefully chosen to excite the methylene protons so that enhanced sensitivity was obtained for the heparin–protein complex. We believe this approach opens up additional application avenues to further investigate heparin–protein interactions.  相似文献

We report here a simple and universal synthetic pathway covering triple click reactions, Diels–Alder, copper‐catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC), and nitroxide radical coupling (NRC), to prepare well‐defined graft copolymers with V‐shaped side chains. The Diels–Alder click reaction between the furan protected‐maleimide‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and a trifunctional core ( 1 ) carrying an anthracene, alkyne, and bromide was carried out to yield the corresponding α‐alkyne‐ and α‐bromide‐terminated PEG (PEG‐alkyne/Br) in toluene at 110 °C. Subsequently, the polystyrene or polyoxanorbornene with pendant azide functionality as a main backbone is reacted with the PEG‐alkyne/Br and 2,2,6,6‐tetramethyl‐1‐piperidinyloxy (TEMPO)‐terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) using the CuAAC and NRC reactions in a one‐pot fashion in N,N′‐dimethylformamide at room temperature to result in the target V‐shaped graft copolymers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
