Reaction of N,N'-dialkyldithiodianilines with β-ketoesters. A new synthesis of N-alkyl-2-acyl-3-oxo-3,4-dihydro-1,4-benzothiazines

The title compounds 3a-j together with the N-alkylacylketene S,N-acetals 12a-j were obtained by reaction of N,N'-dialkyldithiodianilines with β-ketoesters compounds. A possible reaction pathway is suggested.     

Mononuclear heterocyclic rearrangement. Note I. Kinetic study of the rearrangement of the phenylhydrazone of 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole into 2,5-diphenyl-4-benzoylamino-1,2,3-triazole

The rates of the mononuclear heterocyclic rearrangement of the phenylhydrazone of 3-benzoyl-5-phenyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole (1) into 2,5-diphenyl-4-benzoylamino-1,2,3-triazole (II) have heen measured in dioxane/water (50:50, v:v) in the range of pS⁺ 3.8–12.2 at various temperatures and the activation parameters determined. On the basis of the results obtained, we present evidence for the occurrence of two different types of reaction: the first, base-catalyzed; the second, pS⁺ -independent. In the base-catalyzed range the catalysis is of the general type.     

Long-range dispersion coefficients for like centrosymmetric linear molecules and an application to H2-H2

The real spherical tensor theory of long-range intermolecular coefficients developed in previous papers is applied to derive explicit formulae for the first three dispersion coefficients for like centrosymmetric linear molecules. The expansion of angle-dependent coefficients in associated Legendre polynomials allows one to identify the isotropic and anisotropic components of the dispersion interaction in terms of London dispersion constants, the treatment of higher coefficients being simplified by the coupling of the elementary (l, l′)-polarizations to resultant angular momenta L_A and L_B onto each molecule. The contributions from all coupling schemes are given explicitly for C₆, C₈, C₁₀, and numerical results are presented for H₂-H₂ using two-term reduced spectra values from the Kaiserlautern group.     

Supramolecular adducts between macrocyclic Gd(iii) complexes and polyaromatic systems: a route to enhance the relaxivity through the formation of hydrophobic interactions

The set-up of reversible binding interactions between the hydrophobic region of macrocyclic GBCAs (Gadolinium Based Contrast Agents) and SO₃⁻/OH containing pyrene derivatives provides new insights for pursuing relaxivity enhancements of this class of MRI contrast agents. The strong binding affinity allows attaining relaxation enhancements up to 50% at pyrene/GBCA ratios of 3 : 1. High resolution NMR spectra of the Yb-HPDO3A/pyrene system fully support the formation of a supramolecular adduct based on the set-up of hydrophobic interactions. The relaxation enhancement may be accounted for in terms of the increase of the molecular reorientation time (τ_R) and the number of second sphere water molecules. This effect is maintained in blood serum and in vivo, as shown by the enhancement of contrast in T_1w-MR images obtained by simultaneous injection of GBCA and pyrene derivatives in mice.

Coordination properties of 6-deoxy-6-[1-(2-amino) ethylamino]-β-cyclodextrin and the ability of its copper(II) complex to recognize and separate amino acid enantiomeric pairs

The functionalized cyclodextrin 6-deoxy-6-[1-(2-amino)ethylamino]--cyclodextrin was synthesized, and an NMR, EPR, pH-metric, and calorimetric investigation was carried out in aqueous solution in order to ascertain its behaviour towards protonation and copper(II) complex formation. The thermodynamic parameters of the ternary complex formation with alanine, phenylalanine and tryptophan enantiomeric pairs were also determined (25° C andI=0.1 mol dm^–3). No thermodynamic enantioselectivity was observed in these systems, while a chiral, though poor, discrimination was observed in LEC: c.d. spectra also show enantiomeric stereoselectivity. The results of the present investigation, compared with previously reported results, suggest the occurence of acis-complex trans-complex equilibrium in such systems.     

A θ-stable approximations of abstract Cauchy problems

Summary We study the approximation of linear parabolic Cauchy problems by means of Galerkin methods in space andA -stable multistep schemes of arbitrary order in time. The error is evaluated in the norm ofL _t ² (H _x ¹ ) L _t (L _x ² ).     

Breaking of permutation symmetry and diagonal group action: Nielsen model and the standard model as low-energy limit

We point out that, on the basis of a theorem by L. Michel, every model based on the symmetryG ... G has a generic low-energy limit the breaking to diagonal action, i.e., toG. This applies in particular to the proposal by Nielsen to consider such a model withG the standard model group.     

Properties of Integers and Finiteness Conditions for Semigroups

Let h and k be integers greater than 1; we prove that the following statements are equivalent: 1) the direct product of h copies of the additive semigroup of non-negative integers is not k-repetitive; 2) if the direct product of h finitely generated semigroups is k-repetitive, then one of them is finite. Using this and some results of Dekking and Pleasants on infinite words, we prove that certain repetitivity properties are finiteness conditions for finitely generated semigroups.
