Motivated by a desire to develop flexible covalent adhesives that afford some of the same malleability in the adhesive layer as traditional polymer-based adhesives, we designed and synthesized two flexible, highly fluorinated bis-diazirines. Both molecules are shown to function as effective crosslinkers for polymer materials, and to act as strong adhesives when painted between two polymer objects of low surface energy, prior to thermal activation. Data obtained from lap-shear experiments suggests that greater molecular flexibility is correlated with improved mechanical compliance in the adhesive layer.

Flexible, highly fluorinated covalent adhesives are synthesized, and are shown to afford comparable C–H insertion efficiency and adhesion strength relative to a rigid analogue, while providing improved mechanical compliance in the adhesion layer.  相似文献

A time-resolved kinetic study on the hydrogen abstraction reactions from a series of primary and secondary amines by the cumyloxyl (CumO(?)) and benzyloxyl (BnO(?)) radicals was carried out. The results were compared with those obtained previously for the corresponding reactions with tertiary amines. Very different hydrogen abstraction rate constants (k(H)) and intermolecular selectivities were observed for the reactions of the two radicals. With CumO(?), k(H) was observed to decrease on going from the tertiary to the secondary and primary amines. The lowest k(H) values were measured for the reactions with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine (TMP) and tert-octylamine (TOA), substrates that can only undergo N-H abstraction. The opposite behavior was observed for the reactions of BnO(?), where the k(H) values increased in the order tertiary < secondary < primary. The k(H) values for the reactions of BnO(?) were in all cases significantly higher than those measured for the corresponding reactions of CumO(?), and no significant difference in reactivity was observed between structurally related substrates that could undergo exclusive α-C-H and N-H abstraction. This different behavior is evidenced by the k(H)(BnO(?))/k(H)(CumO(?)) ratios that range from 55-85 and 267-673 for secondary and primary alkylamines up to 1182 and 3388 for TMP and TOA. The reactions of CumO(?) were described in all cases as direct hydrogen atom abstractions. With BnO(?) the results were interpreted in terms of the rate-determining formation of a hydrogen-bonded prereaction complex between the radical α-C-H and the amine lone pair wherein hydrogen abstraction occurs. Steric effects and amine HBA ability play a major role, whereas the strength of the substrate α-C-H and N-H bonds involved appears to be relatively unimportant. The implications of these different mechanistic pictures are discussed.  相似文献

It has previously been shown that multimolecular organic nanostructures form on H-Si(100)-2×1 via a radical mediated growth process. In this mechanism, growth begins through the addition of a molecule to a silicon surface dangling bond, followed by the abstraction of a neighboring H atom and generation of a new dangling bond on the neighboring site. Nanostructures formed by this mechanism grow along one edge of a dimer row. Here, we explored the possibility of using lithographically prepared, biased metal contacts on the silicon surface to generate an electric field that orients molecules during the growth process to achieve growth in the perpendicular-to-row direction. The formation of some nanostructures in a direction that was nearly perpendicular to the dimer rows was achieved, whereas such features were not formed in the absence of the field. Analysis of the scanning tunneling microscopy images suggests that the formation of these nanostructures may involve self-templating effects in addition to dangling bond diffusion rather than a straightforward addition∕abstraction mechanism. These initial results offer some indication that a molecular pattern writer can be achieved.  相似文献

Differences in O-H bond dissociation enthalpies (ΔBDEs) between the hydroxylamine of (15)N-labeled TEMPONE and 10 N,N-di-tert-alkyl hydroxylamines were determined by EPR. These ΔBDEs, together with the g and a(N) values of the derived nitroxide radicals, are discussed in relation to various geometric, intramolecular dipole/dipole, and steric effects and in relation to the results from DFT calculations. We find that dipole/dipole interactions are the dominant factors in dictating a(N) values and O-H BDEs in all of these structurally similar nitroxides and hydroxylamines, respectively. The importance of including the Boltzmann distribution of conformations for each nitroxide in the a(N) calculations is emphasized.  相似文献
