Photon emission from channeled heavy ions excited Resonant-coherently

Abstract

The possibility of the radiative deexcitation from channeled heavy ions excited by the Okorokov Effect (Resonant coherent excitation) is discussed and the experiments on the photon emission due to the deexcitation from hydrogen-like Ne⁹⁺ and Fe⁸⁺ ions are reported.     

Normal integral bases of ∞ -ramified abelian extensions of totally real number fields

LetF be a totally real number field and [ a product of some real primes ofF. J. Brinkhuis gave a necessary condition for a finite abelian extension ofF which is unramified outside [ to have a normal integral basis. We consider the converse of his result and give a necessary and sufficient condition. Furthermore, we concretely express it whenF is a real quadratic field or a cyclic cubic field.     

Microwave Invasion Through Anti-Reflecting Layers of Dielectrics at a Millimeter Wave Irradiation to Living Bodies

Microwave invasion into living bodies through a millimeter wave catheter irradiation is described. As radiation sources for millimeter wave irradiation tests both Impatt oscillator (IO) and a Gunn oscillator were used. Irradiated samples are cow livers and living rats. A newly designed wave-guide vent antenna (WVA) with an anti-reflecting layer (ARL) is used as a launcher for the irradiation and the reflectance measurements. The correlation between the denaturation of the tissue and the reflectance from the WVA is studied in detail.     

Size-dependent structures of NanI+n-1 cluster ions with a methanol adsorbate: a combined study by photodissociation spectroscopy and density-functional theory calculation

Methanol adsorption sites on NanI+n-1 ions were investigated. Photoexcitation to charge-transfer states of NanI+n-1 (methanol) predominantly produces two fragment ions: Nan-1I+n-2 (methanol) (neutral NaI loss) and Nan-1I+n-2(neutral NaI and methanol loss), without forming NanI+n-1 (methanol loss). The relative intensities of these fragments are correlated with the geometries and binding energies.     

Funds allocation in NPOs: the role of administrative cost ratios

Performance measurement of Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) is of increasing importance for aid agencies, policy-makers and donors. A widely used benchmark for measuring the efficiency of NPOs is the overhead cost ratio, consisting of the total money spent on administration and fundraising relative to the budget. Donors generally favor a lower overhead cost ratio as it ensures that more money directly reaches beneficiaries. Unlike fundraising expenses, administrative costs do not contribute to advertising the actions of an NPO even though they account for a significant proportion of overhead cost. Reducing administrative expenses is a logical consequence from a financial viewpoint, but might negatively affect NPOs through the resulting administrative capacities. This phenomenon is known as “Nonprofit Starvation Cycle”. This work provides an analytical framework for analyzing NPO decision making concerning administrative costs. The paper provides answers to important research questions on the optimal level of administrative spending, the influencing factors and the effects of available information on NPOs. The research shows that focusing on financial performance measurements can result in reduced utility created for NPOs. Less transparency often leads to increased utility for NPOs, but more transparency can increase NPOs’ utility if the information available exceeds a certain threshold. Fluctuating donations are challenging for NPOs’ planning and may impact administrative capacities negatively.

     

Boron Clusters as Highly Stable Magnesium‐Battery Electrolytes

Boron clusters are proposed as a new concept for the design of magnesium‐battery electrolytes that are magnesium‐battery‐compatible, highly stable, and noncorrosive. A novel carborane‐based electrolyte incorporating an unprecedented magnesium‐centered complex anion is reported and shown to perform well as a magnesium‐battery electrolyte. This finding opens a new approach towards the design of electrolytes whose likelihood of meeting the challenging design targets for magnesium‐battery electrolytes is very high.     

Dual‐Function Probe to Detect Protease Activity for Fluorescence Measurement and 19F MRI

Dynamic duo : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can visualize deep regions of living bodies, whereas fluorescence measurement offers excellent sensitivity. These methods thus offer signal enhancement potential for detecting enzyme activities. A dual‐mode off/on probe to detect caspase‐3 activity by fluorescence and ¹⁹F MRI is presented.

     

Study on controlling particle growth in seeded emulsion polymerization with regulated coagulation based on the electrostatic interactions

30wt% solid content, anionic seed copolymer latex P(methyl acrylate-co-methyl methacrylate) was prepared by conventional emulsion polymerization, and then the seeded emulsion polymerization was carried out accompanied with the electrostatic coagulation during the reaction in the presence of counter-ion species, such as cationic monomer and initiator. In this article, effects of cationic monomer (dimethyl aminoethyl methacrylate, DM) content, secondary monomer to seed polymer weight ratio, M/P and amount of emulsifier (polyoxyethylene nonylphenylether with 23 units of ethylene oxide, PEO23) were investigated on the effective particle growth and the stability of final latex. With 10wt% DM in monomer, M/P ratio at 2.0 were recommended. An optimal policy for handling the emulsifier content without the nucleation of secondary particles while achieving the controlled coagulative growth was proposed from the observations of polymer yield and particle size during the polymerization.
