Formation of solitons and realization of the superluminality effect upon femtosecond pulse propagation in a medium containing gold nanoparticles

Based on computer simulation, we demonstrate the possibility of formation of solitons upon propagation of a femtosecond laser pulse in a medium containing gold nanoparticles in the presence of two-photon light absorption. The solitons are formed when the laser pulse induces a positive phase grating. The speed of solitons substantially exceeds the speed of laser radiation propagating in a linear medium.

Generation of Phosphide Anions from Phosphorus Red and Phosphine in Strongly Basic Systems to Form Organylphosphines and -Oxides

Abstract

Generation of phosphide anions from phosphorus red or phosphine under the action of strong bases followed by their reactions with organyl halides, electrophilic alkenes and alkynes proves to be the most straightforward and well-controlled route to mono-, di- or triorganylphosphines or phosphine oxides of diverse structure.     

Reaction of Red Phosphorus with Allylbenzene in Superbasic System KOH-DMSO

Abstract

Red phosphorus reacts with allylbenzene in the superbase system KOH-DMSO (130°C, 3 h, Ar) to give a mixture of bis(1-methyl-2-phenylethyl)phosphane (1), bis(1-methyl-2-phenylethyl)phosphane oxide (2), and 1-methyl-2-phenylethylphosphinic acid (3). Secondary phosphane oxide 2 and phosphinic acid 3 have been isolated from this mixture in 35% and 32% yield, respectively. Microwave activation of the reaction (200 W, 30 min) affords secondary phosphane 1 as the main product in 48% yield.

Synthesis of 3-[5-(biphenyl-4-yl)pyrrol-2-yl]-1-phenylprop-2-yn-1-ones by palladium-free cross-coupling between pyrroles and haloalkynes on aluminum oxide

Cross-coupling of 2-(biphenyl-4-yl)pyrroles derived from 1-(biphenyl-4-yl)ethanone oximes and acetylene with 3-bromo-1-phenylprop-2-yn-1-one on aluminum oxide gave 3-[5-(biphe-nyl-4-yl)pyrrol-2-yl]-1-phenylprop-2-yn-1-ones in 35–46% yields.     

Nanosized Pd(0)-arabinogalactan composites as catalysts in the Sonogashira reaction

Zero-valent palladium nanoparticles stabilized by arabinogalactan polysaccharide matrix were successfully used for the first time as phosphine-free catalyst in the cross-coupling of terminal alkynes with aryl and hetaryl halides.
