The sensitivity of the torsional pendulum demonstrates the self-shape-memory effect in different types of spider draglines. Here we report the time-resolved noncovalent bonds recovery in the protein structure. The torsional dynamics of such multilevel structure governed by reversible interactions are described in the frame of a nested model. Measurement of three different relaxation times confirms the existence of three energy storage levels in such two protein spidroin systems. Torsion opens the way to further investigations towards unraveling the tiny torque effects in biological molecules. 相似文献

The spatial distribution of single Au atoms on a thin FeO film has been investigated by low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. The adatoms preferentially adsorb on distinct sites of the Moiré cell formed by the oxide layer and the Pt(111) support and arrange into a well-ordered hexagonal superlattice with 25 angstroms lattice constant. The self-organization is the consequence of an inhomogeneous surface potential within the FeO Moiré cell and substantial electrostatic repulsion between the adatoms. 相似文献

Dry aqueous foams made of anionic surfactant (SDS) and spherical gold nanoparticles are studied by small angle X-ray scattering and by optical techniques. To obtain stable foams, the surfactant concentration is well above the critical micelle concentration. The specular reflectivity signal obtained on a very thin film (thickness 20 nm) shows that functionalized nanoparticles (17 nm typical size) are trapped within the film in the form of a single monolayer. In order to isolate the film behavior, investigations are made on a single film confined in a tube. The film thinning according to the ratio of functionalized nanoparticle and SDS micelles (1:1, 1:10, 1:100) is mainly governed by the structural arrangement of SDS micelles. In thick films, nanoparticles tend to form aggregates that disappear during drainage. In particular self-organization of nanoparticles (with different surface charge) inside the film is not detected. 相似文献

The three-dimensional structures of a number of [M(SR)(4)](n-) complexes, where M is a 3d transition metal and R is an alkyl or aryl group, have been analyzed using density functional theory (DFT). Special attention is paid to the Fe(II)/Fe(III) mimics of rubredoxin. The Fe(II) model complex [Fe(SCH(3))(4)](2-) has an equilibrium conformation with D2d symmetry. The DFT energy has been decomposed into contributions for ligand-ligand and metal-ligand interactions. The latter contribution is analyzed with the angular overlap model (AOM) and constitutes the dominant stereospecific interaction in the Fe(II) complex. The sulfur lone-pair electrons exert anisotropic pi interactions on the 3d(6) shell of Fe(II), which are controlled by the torsion angles, omega(i), for the rotations of the S(i)-C(beta) bonds around the Fe-S(i) axes. In contrast, the pi interactions acting on the high-spin 3d(5) shell of Fe(III) are isotropic. As a consequence, the stereochemistry of the Fe(III) complexes is determined by the Coulomb repulsions between the ligands and has S(4) symmetry. The electrostatic repulsions between the lone pairs of the sulfurs are an essential component of the ligand-ligand interaction. The lone-pair repulsions distort the 90 degree angle SFeS' angles (delta + delta(t)) and give rise to a correlation between delta and omega, which is confirmed by crystallographic data. Both the Fe(II) and Fe(III) complexes exhibit structural bistability due to the presence of low-lying equilibrium conformations with S(4) symmetry in which the complex can be trapped by the crystalline host. 相似文献

The success of nucleic acid delivery requires the development of safe and efficient delivery vectors that overcome cellular barriers for effective transport. Herein we describe the synthesis of a series of novel, single-chain rigid cationic carotenoid lipids and a study of their preliminary in vitro siRNA delivery effectiveness and cellular toxicity. The efficiency of siRNA delivery by the single-chain lipid series was compared with that of known cationic lipid vectors, 3β-[N-(N',N'-dimethylaminoethane)carbamoyl]-cholesterol (DC-Chol) and 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glyceryl-3-phosphoethanolamine (EPC) as positive controls. All cationic lipids (controls and single-chain lipids) were co-formulated into liposomes with the neutral co-lipid, 1,2-dioleolyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphoethanolamine (DOPE). Cationic lipid-siRNA complexes of varying (+/-) molar charge ratios were formulated for delivery into HR5-CL11 cells. Of the five single-chain carotenoid lipids investigated, lipids 1, 2, 3 and 5 displayed significant knockdown efficiency with HR5-CL11 cells. In addition, lipid 1 exhibited the lowest levels of cytotoxicity with cell viability greater than 80% at all (+/-) molar charge ratios studied. This novel, single-chain rigid carotenoid-based cationic lipid represents a new class of transfection vector with excellent cell tolerance, accompanied with encouraging siRNA delivery efficiency. 相似文献

Tetraglycidyl 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (TGDDM) undergoes homopolymerization on heating. Intramolecular reactions which compete with crosslinking favor the formation of cyclic structures with increasing thermal and fire resistance of the resin, whereas physical mechanical properties tend to decrease. The mechanism of thermal decomposition of TGDDM is studied by thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry and thermal volatilization analysis with characterization of volatiles evolved and residue left. Thermal degradation of poly-(TGDDM) starts at 260°C with elimination of water from secondary alcoholic groups which is a typical pathway for epoxy resin degradation. Resulting unsaturations weaken bonds in the β-position and provoke the first chain breaking at allyl–amine and allyl–either bonds. With increasing temperature, saturated alkyl–ether bonds and alkyl carbon–carbon bonds are broken first, followed by the most stable alkyl–aryl bonds at T>365°C. The combustion performance of TGDDM is discussed on the basis of the thermal degradation behavior. 相似文献

We present a simultaneous liquid chromatographic method for the separation of two flavonoid compound families, flavanone glycosides (FGs) and polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs), which are usually found in citrus fruit species and varieties. This technique permits the quantitation of six FGs (narirutin, naringin, hesperidin, neohesperidin, didymin, poncirin) and six PMFs (sinensetin, hexamethoxyflavone, nobiletin, scutellarein, heptamethoxyflavone and tangeretin). This technique, to be used to characterize a citrus juice by its polyphenolic profile, has been applied to the determination of flavonoid compounds in grapefruit- and orange juice. Differentiation of orange juice varieties and mixtures containing tangor juice using polyphenolic profiles and flavonoid content has been achieved. 相似文献

Surface area exclusion chromatography was used to investigate the reconformation of fully hydrolyzed polyvinylamine. The polymer is adsorbed on stacked glass fiber filters constituting the stationary phase while the polymer solution is injected at the inlet of the chromatography column. From numerical simulation and experimental chromatograms of nonreconforming polyelectrolytes, the amount of polymer adsorbed per filter represented as a function of the filter position along the column (the histogram) was determined to be continuously decreasing and not to depend on the rate of elution. For polyvinylamine, the histograms are peaked and the height of the peak was determined to depend greatly on the rate of polymer supply to the column that was controlled by monitoring the polymer concentration and/or the rate of elution (mass-transfer-controlled adsorption). Modifications in the adsorption on the successive filters were converted into changes in the interfacial area of adsorbed molecules taking into account model histograms as well as experimental adsorption histograms of non reconforming systems. Macromolecule concentration in the mobile phase and contact time between solute and adsorbed molecules were determined to be the two parameters controlling the extent of polymer desorption. The unusual shape of the histogram thus was attributed to reconformation of the adsorbed polymer, which was stimulated by interfacial exchange between segments belonging to trains of adsorbed macromolecules and chain segments of solute ones. 相似文献
