Three parts of the paper [Czech. J. Phys.41 (1991) 620,7 are focused on the Landauer-Büttiker approach to the study of transport in two-dimensional electron systems, with particular attention to the influence of an external magnetic field. In the previous parts the Landauer formalism was generalized for two-dimensional systems in quantizing magnetic fields. In the present part we applied the formalism to an analysis of magnetoresistance measurements. The two-dimensional electron gas preserved in the non-dissipative quantum Hall regime acts as the ideal leads necessary in the Landauer-Büttiker approach. The voltage, applied to the gate, forms a scattering region in the gated part of the sample, in between of its undisturbed parts (ideal leads). The dependence of the resistance on the gate voltage and the number of available channels within the ideal leads are discussed.The author wishes to thank to Professor P. The issue of the intrinsic nonlocality of quantum mechanics raised by J. S. Bell is examined from the point of view of the recently developed method of geometro-stochastic quantization and its applications to general relativistic quantum theory. This analysis reveals that a distinction should be made between the topological concept of locality used in formulating relativistic causality and a type of geometric locality based on the concept of fiber bundle, which can be used in extending the strong equivalence principle to the quantum domain. Both play an essential role in formulating a notion of geometro-stochastic propagation based on quantum diffusions, which throws new light on the EPR paradox, on the origin of the arrow of time, and on other fundamental issues in quantum cosmology and the theory of measurement. 相似文献

The life course of the physicist and biologist George Feher may be seen as an epitome of science of the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. Feher, a native of Slovakia, barely escaped Nazism and communism and became a scientist in the USA. The Nazi concentration camps and the communist gulags have become a symbol of the 20th century. This symbol stands here to pose a question: How the two totalitarian systems, fraught with irrationality, may have arisen and thrived in parallel with an unprecedented expansion of science, the paragon of rationalism? The question has become even more urgent in the 21st century. The Ground Zero, an empty spot left after the collapse of the twin towers of the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001, has become the symbol of the entrance of humankind into the new millennium. We can do much, but we understand too little about who we are and what we are doing — this is a message that the two symbols convey about the precarious stage of our evolution. The second message concerns the role of artifacts, specifically scientific instruments, in the advancement of science. Human cultural evolution has been steadily progressing, in a form of a ratchet, only because artifacts have been continually evolving. Contrary to the common Popperian wisdom, the demarcation in science may not consist in the amenability to theoretical falsification, but rather in the amenability to instrumental grasping. Scientific instruments have empowered humans for impressive feats of manipulation with Nature and themselves. Knowledge arising in the course of autonomous evolution of artifacts may surpass the horizon of human understanding and grasping. New knowledge may still be power, but no longer the power of humans. We may need a revision of some fundamental ideas of European thought. Our understanding of the human mind may entirely reshape our comprehension of the nature of physical knowledge, and vice versa. 相似文献

Proposed work develops method of polymer surface patterning, suggested in our laboratory. Surface structures with different symmetry and shape are prepared on PMMA and photoresist (Su-8) surface. For surface modification, periodic laser scanning from confocal microscope was used. For optical response improvement meso tetraphenylporphyrine was added either in the polymer bulk or on the top of pristine polymer by vacuum evaporation method. Applications of vacuum deposition methods allow increasing applicability of the technique and preparation of more complex structure. Parameters of the created structures were studied with the aim to better understand the driving forces of the surface modification. Application of prepared structures in photonics as diffraction grating or light coupling elements is also given. 相似文献

Using the field theoretic renormalization group technique the model of a passive vector field advected by an incompressible turbulent flow is investigated up to the second order of the perturbation theory (two-loop approximation). The turbulent environment is given by statistical fluctuations of the velocity field that has a Gaussian distribution with zero mean and defined noise with finite correlations in time. Two-loop analysis of all possible scaling regimes in general d-dimensional space is done in the plane of exponents ? ? η, where ? characterizes the energy spectrum of the velocity field in the inertial range E ∝ k 1 ? 2ε, and η is related to the correlation time at the wave number k which is scaled as k ?2 + η. It is shown that the scaling regimes of the present model of vector advection have essentially different properties than the scaling regimes of the corresponding model of passively advected scalar quantity. The results demonstrate the fact that within the present model of passively advected vector field the internal tensor structure of the advected field can have nontrivial impact on the diffusion processes deep inside in the inertial interval of given turbulent flow. 相似文献
