Effective dissipation and turbulence in spectrally truncated euler flows

A new transient regime in the relaxation towards absolute equilibrium of the conservative and time-reversible 3D Euler equation with a high-wave-number spectral truncation is characterized. Large-scale dissipative effects, caused by the thermalized modes that spontaneously appear between a transition wave number and the maximum wave number, are calculated using fluctuation dissipation relations. The large-scale dynamics is found to be similar to that of high-Reynolds number Navier-Stokes equations and thus obeys (at least approximately) Kolmogorov scaling.     

Growth parameters and shape specific synthesis of silicon nanowires by the VLS method

In this paper the effect of varying temperature, pressure and chemical precursors on the vapour–liquid–solid (VLS) growth of silicon nanowires (Si NWs) have been investigated. Some aspects of nucleation and growth mechanisms are discussed. Control on Si NW morphology by varying the choice of gaseous precursor (silane or dichlorosilane) at elevated temperatures is reported.     

Herstellung und Solvolyse von 3-substituierten p-Toluolsulfonsäure-(1-adamantyl)estern

The Preparation and Solvolysis of 3-substituted 1-Adamantyl Toluenesulfonates Methods for the preparation of some hitherto unknown 3-iubstitutetl 1-adamantyl toluenesulfonates are evaluated. Their solvolysis products in dioxane/water 70:30 are reported.     

Interaction between Non-Conjugated Chromophores: 5,6-Dimethylidene-exo-2-norborneol, 5,6-Dimethylidene-exo,exo-2,3-norbornanediol and 5,6-Dimethylidene-2-norbornanone

Preparation of the title compounds 11 , 12 and 13 is described. Preliminary kinetic results indicate that the hydroxyl substituents in 11 and 12 have a very small retardation effect on the Diels-Alder reactivity of 2,3-dimethylidene-norbornane. The keto group in 13 exerts a larger retardation effect, although it is much smaller than the retardation effect introduced by an exo-5,6-epoxide ring in 2,3-dimethylidene-norbornane.     

Heat transport in a strongly overdoped cuprate: Fermi liquid and a pure d-wave BCS superconductor

The transport of heat and charge in the overdoped cuprate superconductor Tl(2)Ba2CuO(6+delta) was measured down to low temperature. In the normal state, obtained by applying a magnetic field greater than the upper critical field, the Wiedemann-Franz law is verified to hold perfectly. In the superconducting state, a large residual linear term is observed in the thermal conductivity, in quantitative agreement with BCS theory for a d-wave superconductor. This is compelling evidence that the electrons in overdoped cuprates form a Fermi liquid, with no indication of spin-charge separation.     

Octanuclear cobalt and nickel cages featuring formate ligands

Two new octanuclear cages are reported which feature formate as a bridging carboxylate which has been formed in situ from decomposition of triphenylacetate used as a ligand.     

Homogenization of First-Order Equations with $$(u/\varepsilon)$$ -Periodic Hamiltonians. Part I: Local Equations

In this paper, we present a result of homogenization of first-order Hamilton–Jacobi equations with ()-periodic Hamiltonians. On the one hand, under a coercivity assumption on the Hamiltonian (and some natural regularity assumptions), we prove an ergodicity property of this equation and the existence of nonperiodic approximate correctors. On the other hand, the proof of the convergence of the solution, usually based on the introduction of a perturbed test function in the spirit of Evans’s work, uses here a twisted perturbed test function for a higher-dimensional problem.
