Erratum to “State-morphism MV-algebras” [Ann. Pure Appl. Logic 161 (2009) 161-173]

Recently, the first two authors characterized in Di Nola and Dvure?enskij (2009) [1] subdirectly irreducible state-morphism MV-algebras. Unfortunately, the main theorem (Theorem 5.4(ii)) has a gap in the proof of Claim 10, as the example below shows. We now present a correct characterization and its correct proof.     

Threshold strangeness production in pp interactions

During the actual lectures, features of the COSY-Jülich accelerator were presented, followed by a short summary of ongoing experiments at the COoler SYnchrotron COSY using internal as well as external beams in the range of 45 MeV to 2.5 GeV. Here the research of the COSY-11 collaboration is presented. This °⁰ facility studies the hidden and open strangeness production observing the ν and η′ as well the K⁺Y and K⁺K^? production in the proton—proton interactions at the respective thresholds.

On the fourth-order difference equation for the associated Meixner polynomials

Three equivalent forms of the fourth-order difference equation obeyed by the associated Meixner polynomials (with a nonnegative real association parameter) are derived from a refinement of a recent result due to Letessier et al. (1996).     

Weyl numbers and eigenvalues of abstract summing operators

We estimate Weyl numbers and eigenvalues of operators via studying their abstract summing norms. In particular we prove estimates of these summing norms for abstract interpolation Lorentz spaces. For this we combine factorization theorems with estimates of concavity constants. Finally we apply our general eigenvalue results to integral operators with kernels of weakly singular type. We obtain asymptotically optimal estimates which extend the well-known classical results.     

On the irrationality of factorial series II

In this paper we give irrationality results for numbers of the form where the numbers an behave like a geometric progression for a while. The method is elementary, not using differentiation or integration. In particular, we derive elementary proofs of the irrationality of π and em for Gaussian integers m≠0.     

On Li's criterion for the Riemann hypothesis for the Selberg class

In this paper, we shall prove a generalization of Li's positivity criterion for the Riemann hypothesis for the extended Selberg class with an Euler sum. We shall also obtain two arithmetic expressions for Li's constants , where the sum is taken over all non-trivial zeros of the function F and the indicates that the sum is taken in the sense of the limit as T→∞ of the sum over ρ with |Imρ|?T. The first expression of λF(n), for functions in the extended Selberg class, having an Euler sum is given terms of analogues of Stieltjes constants (up to some gamma factors). The second expression, for functions in the Selberg class, non-vanishing on the line , is given in terms of a certain limit of the sum over primes.

Improved bounds for the Laplacian energy of Bethe trees

For k, d?2, a Bethe tree is a rooted tree with k levels which the root vertex has degree d, the vertices from level 2 to k-1 have degree d+1 and the vertices at the level k are pendent vertices. So et al, using a theorem by Ky Fan have obtained both upper and lower bounds for the Laplacian energy of bipartite graphs. We shall employ the above mentioned theorem to obtain new and improved bounds for the Laplacian energy in the case of Bethe trees.     

Computation of the Reflection Coefficient of a Triangular Semiconductor Prism in a Rectangular Waveguide

In this paper we present a method to solve Maxwell's equations that enables to compute waveguide structure containing a semiconductor triangular prism. The numerical study has showed that the triangular prism in the waveguide has a wider frequency band in comparison with a square rod under equal conditions. The reflection coefficient dependencies on frequency, prism size and its permittivity have been computed. The algorithm and computer programme have been tested and compared with the numerical results and experimental data of the paper [1] with good agreement.     

On sofic actions and equivalence relations

The notion of sofic equivalence relation was introduced by Gabor Elek and Gabor Lippner. Their technics employ some graph theory. Here we define this notion in a more operator algebraic context, starting from Connes? Embedding Problem, and prove the equivalence of these two definitions. We introduce a notion of sofic action for an arbitrary group and prove that an amalgamated product of sofic actions over amenable groups is again sofic. We also prove that an amalgamated product of sofic groups over an amenable subgroup is again sofic.
