Intermediate mass fragment emission pattern in peripheral heavy-ion collisions at Fermi energies

The emission pattern in the v(perp)-v(par) plane of intermediate mass fragments with Z = 3--7 (IMF) has been studied in the collision 116Sn+ 93Nb at 29.5A MeV as a function of the total kinetic energy loss of the reaction. This pattern shows that for peripheral reactions most IMF's are emitted at velocities intermediate between those of the projectile- and target-like products. Coulomb trajectory calculations show that these IMF's are produced in the interaction zone in a short time interval at the end of the target-projectile interaction.     

Prospects for e+e- physics at Frascati between the φ and the ψ

We present a detailed study, done in the framework of the INFN 2006 Roadmap, of the prospects for e⁺e^- physics at the Frascati National Laboratories. The physics case for an e⁺e^- collider running at high luminosity at the φ resonance energy and also reaching a maximum center of mass energy of 2.5 GeV is discussed, together with the specific aspects of a very high luminosity τ-charm factory. Subjects connected to kaon decay physics are not discussed here, being part of another INFN Roadmap working group. The significance of the project and the impact on INFN are also discussed. PMR-Spektren einiger Alkoxy-9-chlor-6-nitroacridine

The spectra of some 9-chloro-6-nitroacridines with methoxy substituents in position 1,4; 2,4; 3,4; 2,3; and ethoxy substituents in positions 1, 2, 3, were recorded. The influence of electron releasing alkoxy groups and electron withdrawing nitro groups on chemical shifts of protons in the 9-chloroacridinic cycle was discussed and PMR parameters were determined, comparatively with those of acridine and 9-chloroacridine. Good agreement between calculated and experimental values is observed. The spectrum of 9-chloro-1,2,3-triethoxyacridine shows for the four protons of the ringC. (H-5, H-6, H-7, H-8) anAMNX coupling pattern whose parameters were determined.     

A combined approach for evaluating papers, authors and scientific journals

An integrated model for ranking scientific publications together with authors and journals recently presented in [Bini, Del Corso, Romani, ETNA 2008] is closely analyzed. The model, which relies on certain adjacency matrices H,K and F obtained from the relations of citation, authorship and publication, provides the ranking by means of the Perron vector of a stochastic matrix obtained by combining H,K and F. Some perturbation theorems concerning the Perron vector previously introduced by the authors are extended to more general cases and a counterexample to a property previously addressed by the authors is presented. The theoretical results confirm the consistency and effectiveness of our model. Some paradigmatic examples are reported together with some results obtained on a real set of data.     

Boundary effects in finite Heisenberg antiferromagneticS = 1 chains:89Y NMR in Y2BaNi1−xMgxO5

By means of⁸⁹Y nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra direct evidence of staggered magnetization induced by a uniform field has been obtained in the Heisenberg antiferromagneticS = 1 chain Y₂BaNi_1?xMg_xO₅. A correspondence between the resonance lines and the lattice positions is established, providing an image of the alternating magnetic moments that develop around the Mg impurities at the chain boundaries. The amplitude of these moments is found to decrease exponentially from the edges, with a characteristic decay distance equal to the magnetic correlation length numerically evaluated for an infinite chain. While the magnetization pertaining to ions far from the boundaries behaves as in typical gapped systems, the edge spins exhibit anS = 1/2 Curie-like deviation. These results promote the NMR approach to access the spin-spin correlation function in antiferro-magnetic quantum spin systems at finite temperatures.     

Spin–rotation couplings: spinning test particles and Dirac field

The hypothesis of coupling between spin and rotation introduced long ago by Mashhoon is examined in the context of “1 + 3” and “3 + 1” space-time splitting techniques, either in special or in general relativity. Its content is discussed in terms of classical (Mathisson–Papapetrou–Dixon–Souriou model) as well as quantum physics (Foldy–Wouthuysen transformation for the Dirac field in an external field), reviewing and discussing all the relevant theoretical literature concerning the existence of such effect. Some original contributions are also included. Dedicated to Bahram Mashhoon for his 60th birthday.     

Computational <Superscript>19</Superscript>F NMR. 1. General features

Fluorine-19 NMR chemical shifts have been calculated for a wide variety of fluorine-containing inorganic and organic molecules by relativistic DFT methods. The agreement with experimental values, spanning the whole range from ClF to FOOF, is satisfactory but somewhat less accurate than for comparable light nuclei. ¹⁹F shifts in uranium chlorofluorides have been analyzed in detail, and the poor agreement with experiment is partly rationalized.
