Determination of lead and cadmium using a polycyclodextrin-modified carbon paste electrode with anodic stripping voltammetry

This work reports the use of and -cyclodextrin-modified carbon paste electrodes (CPE_-CD and CPE_-CD) to determine simultaneously Pb(II) and Cd(II) by means of the electrochemical technique known as anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). Both modified electrodes displayed good resolution of the oxidation peaks of the said metals. Statistic analysis of the results strongly suggests that the CPE_-CD exhibited a better analytical response that the CPE_-CD, while the detection limits obtained for Pb(II) were 6.3×10^–7 M for the CPE_-CD and 7.14×10^–7 M for the CPE_-CD, whereas for Cd(II) they were 2.51×10^–6 M for the CPE_-CD and 2.03×10^–6 M for the CPE_-CD.     

Influence of Cyclodextrins on the Kinetics of Oxidation of Amino Acids and BSA by Hydrazyl Radicals

The kinetics of oxidation of amino acids (Arg, His, Lys, Phe, Thr and Tyr), a dipeptide (Gly-His), and BSA (bovine serum albumin) by two persistent water soluble free radicals of the hydrazyl type has been studied.The rate decreases in the order Arg>Lys>Tyr>Thr>HisBSAPheGly-His with bothfree radicals. Addition to the reaction mixture of - and -cyclodextrin decreases the oxidation rate, probably due to amino acidencapsulation in the cyclodextrin cavity. -Cyclodextrin protects more efficiently against oxidation than -cyclodextrin.     

Ultrasound-assisted microencapsulation of jackfruit extract in eco-friendly powder particles: characterization and antiproliferative activity

The aim of the article was to develop stable and safe eco-friendly microcapsules and evaluate their physicochemical properties and their efficiency to protect a jackfruit extract. Eco-friendly microcapsules were produced by ultrasound and spray drying using only three safe ingredients: sucrose ester (SE), miglyol and maltodextrin (DE = 10). Some physicochemical properties, particle morphology, FT-IR, differential scanning calorimetry and antiproliferative activity were determined for microcapsules loaded or not with the jackfuit extract. The results revealed that the encapsulation process by spray drying produced stable microcapsules, with adequate physicochemical and fluid properties for a powder product. The cell viability on the proliferation of M12.C3.F6 cell line was not affected by powder microcapsules without jackfruit extract, indicating that capsules are not toxic for these cells. However, microcapsules with jackfruit extract (100 μg/ml) were able to inhibit significantly the proliferation of M12.C3.F6 cells. These microcapsules can be used for the protection of different compounds sensitive to light, oxygen and/or heat and displaying a very low aqueous solubility.     

Catalytic asymmetric hydrosilylation of acetophenone with new chiral thiourea ligands containing the (S)-α-phenylethyl group

New chiral thioureas 1–8 containing 1,2-ethylendiamine or trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane as the carbon skeleton, and containing an (S)-α-phenylethyl group have been prepared (79–98% yield). Thioureas 1–8 were used as ligands for the zinc-based catalyzed asymmetric hydrosilylation of acetophenone with polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS). The best result was achieved with monothiourea 1 (up to 75% ee), in toluene and a catalyst load of 5 mol %.     

A Capelli type theorem for multiplicative convolutions of polynomials

We prove a Capelli type theorem on the canonical decomposition for multiplicative convolutions of polynomials. We derive then some irreducibility criteria for convolutions of polynomials in several variables over a given field. The irreducibility conditions are expressed only in terms of the degrees of the polynomials in convolution, the degrees of their coefficients, and the degrees of some suitable divisors of the resulting leading coefficient. Tautological rings of stable map spaces

We find a set of generators and relations for the system of extended tautological rings associated to the moduli spaces of stable maps in genus zero, admitting a simple geometrical interpretation. In particular, when the target is Pn, these give a complete presentation for the cohomology and Chow rings in the cases with/without marked points.     

The electrochemical behaviour of the altenuene mycotoxin and its acidic properties

The electrooxidation of altenuene (ALT), one of the mycotoxins of the Alternaria alternata genus, on a glassy carbon disk electrode is studied for the first time by using cyclic and square wave voltammetry. From the electrochemical responses, a complex reaction mechanism could be inferred. Values of 1.06×10⁻⁵ cm² s⁻¹, 1.116 V and 2 were determined for the diffusion coefficient, the apparent formal potential and the electron number, respectively, for the overall electrode process by convolution analysis of linear scan voltammograms. Square wave voltammetry was used to generate I_p versus c_ALT* calibration curves for this fungal metabolite. A detection limit of 4.0×10⁻⁷ M was determined for a 2:1 signal to noise ratio. The acid dissociation constant for ALT was determined from conventional UV–vis spectrophotometric measurements. Experimental variations of absorbance as a function of pH at a given wavelength were fitted by using the exact equation that describes the system. Good agreement between the experimental absorbance versus pH plots and the curves generated by the fitting process was found.     

Thermogravimetric analysis of layered double hydroxides with chloramphenicol and salicylate in the interlayer space

The thermal behavior of the new inorganic-organic nanohybrid materials obtained by intercalation of chloramphenicol and salicylate into layered double hydroxides (LDHs) by direct synthesis method, anion exchange reaction and the reconstruction method was evaluated by dynamic thermogravimetric analysis in air, at heating rates of 5°C min⁻¹. The XRD patterns of the samples are characteristic for those of well crystallized solids with layered double hydroxide structures. The FTIR spectroscopy results show the presence of the organic compound within the network structure of the synthesized LDHs. The kinetic parameters (reaction order (n) apparent activation energy (E _a) and pre-exponential factor (lnA) were calculated by the Coats-Redfern method. The compensation effects were determined.
