A new low-cost pH sensor developed by immobilizing a direct indicator dye to porous and transparent acetylcellulose film. This sensor was fabricated by binding α-Naphthyl Red and Alizarine Yellow GG to a cellulose acetate film that had previously been subjected to an exhaustive base hydrolysis. The membranes have good durability (>12 months) and a short response time (<5 s). The method is easy to perform and uses acetylcellulose as a carrier. The reagents used for the activity of the cellulose support are inexpensive, nontoxic, and widely available. The Alizarine Yellow GG sensor can be used for direct determination of pH in alkaline media without any alkaline error.  相似文献

The oxidation of some xylenols with iodine in aqueous ethanolic solutions in the presence of silver ions as a catalyst was investigated and used for microdetermination of these reductants. The study of these redox reactions and the microdetermination of these phenols were performed by volumetric and spectrophotometric methods. These methods were compared. The spectrophotometric method was more accurate at very low concentrations (60–488 μg). The volumetric methods used silver ions as catalyst. The potentiometric method is more accurate than the visual method. Possible schemes for the course of these redox reactions were suggested. One electron processes for oxidation of xylenols have been indicated.  相似文献

The polarographic behaviour of 1,3-bis[(2-pyridyl)methyleneamino]thiourea (PMAT) in solutions of varyingpH has been studied both in the absence and presence of Triton X-100 (T.X-100). The mechanism for the reduction process is discussed. The adsorption effect of electrochemically inactive T.X-100 on the polarographic waves ofPMAT has been investigated. The values of the kinetic parameters for the electrode reaction at differentpH values have been computed. The applicability of the polarographic method for determination ofPMAT is also discussed.

Zusammenfassung Es wurde das polarographische Verhalten vonPMAT in Lösungen mit verschiedenempH sowohl in Gegenwart als auch ohne Triton X-100 (T.X-100) untersucht. Es wird ein Mechanismus für den Reduktionsprozeß diskutiert. Der Adsorptionseffekt des elektrochemisch inaktiven T.X-100 wurde hinsichtlich der polarographischen Wellen vonPMAT untersucht. Die kinetischen Parameter der Elektrodenreaktion wurden für verschiedenepH-Werte ermittelt. Ebenso wird die Anwendbarkeit der polarographischen Methode für die Bestimmung vonPMAT diskutiert.

In the present study, we investigated the structure-activity relationship of naturally occurring hesperetin derivatives, as well as the effects of their glycosylation on the inhibition of diabetes-related enzyme systems, protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) and α-glycosidase. Among the tested hesperetin derivatives, hesperetin 5-O-glucoside, a single-glucose-containing flavanone glycoside, significantly inhibited PTP1B with an IC50 value of 37.14 ± 0.07 µM. Hesperetin, which lacks a sugar molecule, was the weakest inhibitor compared to the reference compound, ursolic acid (IC50 = 9.65 ± 0.01 µM). The most active flavanone hesperetin 5-O-glucoside suggested that the position of a sugar moiety at the C-5-position influences the PTP1B inhibition. It was observed that the ability to inhibit PTP1B is dependent on the nature, position, and number of sugar moieties in the flavonoid structure, as well as conjugation. In the kinetic study of PTP1B enzyme inhibition, hesperetin 5-O-glucoside led to mixed-type inhibition. Molecular docking studies revealed that hesperetin 5-O-glucoside had a higher binding affinity with key amino residues, suggesting that this molecule best fits the PTP1B allosteric site cavity. The data reported here support hesperetin 5-O-glucoside as a hit for the design of more potent and selective inhibitors against PTP1B in the search for a new anti-diabetic treatment.  相似文献

Despite the extensive use of carbon steel in all industrial sectors, particularly in the petroleum industry, its low corrosion resistance is an ongoing problem for these industries. In the current work, two malonyl dihydrazide derivatives, namely 2,2’-malonylbis (N-phenylhydrazine-1-carbothiamide (MBC) and N’1, N’3-bis(-2-hydroxybenzylidene) malonohydrazide (HBM), were examined as inhibitors for the carbon steel corrosion in 1.0 M HCl. Both MBC and HBM were characterised using thin-layer chromatography, elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. The corrosion tests were performed using mass loss measurements, polarisation curves, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. It is obtained from the mass loss studies that the optimal concentration for both inhibitors is 2.0 × 10−5 mol/L, and the inhibition efficiencies reached up to 90.7% and 84.5% for MBC and HBM, respectively. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarisation (PDP) indicate an increased impedance in the presence of both MBC and HBM and mixed-type inhibitors, respectively. Both inhibitors can mitigate corrosion in the range of 298–328 K. Values of free energy changes obtained from the Langmuir model suggest that the inhibitors suppress the corrosion process principally by chemisorption. The computational investigations were conducted to identify the factors connected with the anti-corrosive properties of the examined inhibitors.  相似文献

Recently, concerns have been raised globally about antimicrobial resistance, the prevalence of which has increased significantly. Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC) is considered one of the most common resistant bacteria, which has spread to ICUs in Saudi Arabia. This study was established to investigate the antibacterial activity of biosynthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) against KPC in vitro and in vivo. In this study, we used the aqueous extract of Acacia nilotica (L.) fruits to mediate the synthesis of ZnO-NPs. The nanoparticles produced were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, zetasizer and zeta potential analyses, X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The antimicrobial activity of ZnO-NPs against KPC was determined via the well diffusion method, and determining minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), the results showed low MIC and MBC when compared with the MIC and MBC of Imipenem and Meropenem antibiotics. The results of in vitro analysis were supported by the results upon applying ZnO-NP ointment to promote wound closure of rats, which showed better wound healing than the results with imipenem ointment. The biosynthesized ZnO-NPs showed good potential for use against bacteria due to their small size, applicability, and low toxicity to human cells.  相似文献

We present a soft lithographic method to fabricate multiphenotype cell arrays by capturing cells within an array of reversibly sealed microfluidic channels. The technique uses reversible sealing of elastomeric polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) molds on surfaces to sequentially deliver various fluids or cells onto specific locations on a substrate. Microwells on the substrate were used to capture and immobilize cells within low shear stress regions inside channels. By using an array of channels it was possible to deposit multiple cell types, such as hepatocytes, fibroblasts, and embryonic stem cells, on the substrates. Upon formation of the cell arrays on the substrate, the PDMS mold could be removed, generating a multiphenotype array of cells. In addition, the orthogonal alignment and subsequent attachment of a secondary array of channels on the patterned substrates could be used to deliver fluids to the patterned cells. The ability to position many cell types on particular regions within a two dimensional substrate could potentially lead to improved high-throughput methods applicable to drug screening and tissue engineering.  相似文献

The results of harmonic and anharmonic frequency calculations on a guanine-cytosine complex with an enolic structure (a tautomeric form with cytosine in the enol form and with a hydrogen at the 7-position on guanine) are presented and compared to gas-phase IR-UV double resonance spectral data. Harmonic frequencies were obtained at the RI-MP2/cc-pVDZ, RI-MP2/TZVPP, and semiempirical PM3 levels of electronic structure theory. Anharmonic frequencies were obtained by the CC-VSCF method with improved PM3 potential surfaces; the improved PM3 potential surfaces are obtained from standard PM3 theory by coordinate scaling such that the improved PM3 harmonic frequencies are the same as those computed at the RI-MP2/cc-pVDZ level. Comparison of the data with experimental results indicates that the average absolute percentage deviation for the methods is 2.6% for harmonic RI-MP2/cc-pVDZ (3.0% with the inclusion of a 0.956 scaling factor that compensates for anharmonicity), 2.5% for harmonic RI-MP2/TZVPP (2.9% with a 0.956 anharmonicity factor included), and 2.3% for adapted PM3 CC-VSCF; the empirical scaling factor for the ab initio harmonic calculations improves the stretching frequencies but decreases the accuracy of the other mode frequencies. The agreement with experiment supports the adequacy of the improved PM3 potentials for describing the anharmonic force field of the G...C base pair in the spectroscopically probed region. These results may be useful for the prediction of the pathways of vibrational energy flow upon excitation of this system. The anharmonic calculations indicate that anharmonicity along single mode coordinates can be significant for simple stretching modes. For several other cases, coupling between different vibrational modes provides the main contribution to anharmonicity. Examples of strongly anharmonically coupled modes are the symmetric stretch and group torsion of the hydrogen-bonded NH2 group on guanine, the OH stretch and torsion of the enol group on cytosine, and the NH stretch and NH out-of-plane bend of the non-hydrogen-bonded NH group on guanine.  相似文献

We show here that reaction of the fungus, Fusarium oxysporum, with the aqueous heavy-metal ions Pb2+ and Cd2+ results in the one-step formation of the corresponding metal carbonates. The metal carbonates are formed by reaction of the heavy-metal ions with CO2 produced by the fungus during metabolism and thus provide a completely biological method for production of crystals of metal carbonates. The PbCO3 and CdCO3 crystals thus produced have interesting morphologies that are shown to arise because of interaction of the growing crystals with specific proteins secreted by the fungus during reaction. An additional advantage of this approach is that the reaction leads to detoxification of the aqueous solution and could have immense potential for bioremediation of heavy metals. Under conditions of this study, the metal ions are not toxic to the fungus, which readily grows after exposure to the metal ions.  相似文献
