The series of complexes [Ru(bpy)(3-n)(btz)(n)][PF(6)](2) (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridyl, btz = 1,1'-dibenzyl-4,4'-bi-1,2,3-triazolyl, 2n = 1, 3n = 2, 4n = 3) have been prepared and characterised, and the photophysical and electronic effects imparted by the btz ligand were investigated. Complexes 2 and 3 exhibit MLCT absorption bands at 425 and 446 nm respectively showing a progressive blue-shift in the absorption on increasing the btz ligand content when compared to [Ru(bpy)(3)][Cl](2) (1). Complex 4 exhibits a heavily blue-shifted absorption spectrum with respect to those of 1-3, indicating that the LUMO of the latter are bpy-centred with little or no btz contribution whereas that of 4 is necessarily btz-centred. DFT calculations on analogous complexes 1'-4' (in which the benzyl substituents are replaced by methyl) show that the HOMO-LUMO gap increases by 0.3 eV from 1'-3' through destabilisation of the LUMO with respect to the HOMO. The HOMO-LUMO gap of 4' increases by 0.98 eV compared to that of 3' due to significant destabilisation of the LUMO. Examination of TDDFT data show that the S(1) states of 1'-3' are (1)MLCT in character whereas that of 4' is (1)MC. The optimisation of the T(1) state of 4' leads to the elongation of two mutually trans Ru-N bonds to yield [Ru(κ(2)-btz)(κ(1)-btz)(2)](2+), confirming the (3)MC character. Thus, replacement of bpy by btz leads to a fundamental change in the ordering of excited states such that the nature of the lowest energy excited state changes from MLCT in nature to MC. 相似文献

The relative intensity and band shapes of the low energy spin-allowed transitions in the linearly polarised and circular dichroism spectrum of [Ni(en)(3)](2+) have been calculated using a time-dependent density functional theory approach. The effect of the trigonal ligand-field is minimal and no splitting of the bands is predicted by the simulations or observed experimentally. The 'd-d' transitions of the [Ni(en)(3)](2+) ion are electric dipole allowed but gain much of their intensity through Herzberg-Teller vibronic coupling. Its CD spectrum is dominated by the low energy band, which gains its rotatory strength through the magnetic dipole-allowed character of the parent octahedral transition and the electric dipole character due to the trigonal field. The simulation of the spectrum incorporates the contribution from all inducing vibrational modes with significant involvement of the {NiN(6)} unit. Vibrations which are centred on the chelate rings are not important in generating intensity, reflecting the localised d-d' character of the transitions. Simulated linearly polarised and circular dichroism spectra of such an open-shell system are presented for the first time and predict the essential elements of the experimental spectra. 相似文献

Cationic and anionic species of heavier low-valent group 14 elements are intriguing targets in main group chemistry due to their synthetic potential and industrial applications. In the present study, we describe the synthesis of cationic (MCl(+)) and anionic (MCl(3)(-)) species of heavier low-valent group 14 elements of germanium(II) and tin(II) by using the substituted Schiff base 2,6-diacetylpyridinebis(2,6-diisopropylanil) as Lewis base (LB). Treatment of LB with 2 equiv of GeCl(2)·dioxane and SnCl(2) in toluene gives compounds [(LB)Ge(II)Cl](+)[Ge(II)Cl(3)](-) (1) and [(LB)Sn(II)Cl](+)[Sn(II)Cl(3)](-) (2), respectively, which possess each a low-valent cation and an anion. Remarkably, uniform virus-like particles self-assemble in a process that appears to follow a rapid kinetic mechanism. The mechanisms by which spherical viruses assemble from hundreds of capsid proteins around nucleic acid, however, are yet unresolved. Using time-resolved small-angle X-ray scattering (TR-SAXS), we have been able to directly visualize SV40 VP1 pentamers encapsidating short RNA molecules (500mers). This assembly process yields T = 1 icosahedral particles comprised of 12 pentamers and one RNA molecule. The reaction is nearly one-third complete within 35 ms, following a two-state kinetic process with no detectable intermediates. Theoretical analysis of kinetics, using a master equation, shows that the assembly process nucleates at the RNA and continues by a cascade of elongation reactions in which one VP1 pentamer is added at a time, with a rate of approximately 10(9) M(-1) s(-1). The reaction is highly robust and faster than the predicted diffusion limit. The emerging molecular mechanism, which appears to be general to viruses that assemble around nucleic acids, implicates long-ranged electrostatic interactions. The model proposes that the growing nucleo-protein complex acts as an electrostatic antenna that attracts other capsid subunits for the encapsidation process. 相似文献

This study examines the dynamic co-localization of lipid-anchored fluorescent proteins in living cells using pulsed-interleaved excitation fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (PIE-FCCS) and fluorescence lifetime analysis. Specifically, we look at the pairwise co-localization of anchors from lymphocyte cell kinase (LCK: myristoyl, palmitoyl, palmitoyl), RhoA (geranylgeranyl), and K-Ras (farnesyl) proteins in different cell types. In Jurkat cells, a density-dependent increase in cross-correlation among RhoA anchors is observed, while LCK anchors exhibit a more moderate increase and broader distribution. No correlation was detected among K-Ras anchors or between any of the different anchor types studied. Fluorescence lifetime data reveal no significant F?rster resonance energy transfer in any of the data. In COS 7 cells, minimal correlation was detected among LCK or RhoA anchors. Taken together, these observations suggest that some lipid anchors take part in anchor-specific co-clustering with other existing clusters of native proteins and lipids in the membrane. Importantly, these observations do not support a simple interpretation of lipid anchor-mediated organization driven by partitioning based on binary lipid phase separation. 相似文献

A reaction exemplifying migration of boron-substituted carbon is described. We show that α-boroalkyl groups of transient boroalkyl acyl azide intermediates readily migrate from carbon to nitrogen. This process allows access to a new class of stable molecules, α-boryl isocyanates, from α-borylcarboxylic acid precursors. Controlled/"living" polymerizations and tandem polymerization methodologies offer enticing opportunities to enchain a wide variety of monomers into new, functional block copolymer materials with unusual physical properties. However, the use of these synthetic methods often introduces nontrivial molecular weight polydispersities, a type of chain length heterogeneity, into one or more of the copolymer blocks. While the self-assembly behavior of monodisperse AB diblock and ABA triblock copolymers is both experimentally and theoretically well understood, the effects of broadening the copolymer molecular weight distribution on block copolymer phase behavior are less well-explored. We report the melt-phase self-assembly behavior of SBS triblock copolymers (S = poly(styrene) and B = poly(1,4-butadiene)) comprised of a broad polydispersity B block (M(w)/M(n) = 1.73-2.00) flanked by relatively narrow dispersity S blocks (M(w)/M(n) = 1.09-1.36), in order to identify the effects of chain length heterogeneity on block copolymer self-assembly. Based on synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy analyses of seventeen SBS triblock copolymers with poly(1,4-butadiene) volume fractions 0.27 ≤ f(B) ≤ 0.82, we demonstrate that polydisperse SBS triblock copolymers self-assemble into periodic structures with unexpectedly enhanced stabilities that greatly exceed those of equivalent monodisperse copolymers. The unprecedented stabilities of these polydisperse microphase separated melts are discussed in the context of a complete morphology diagram for this system, which demonstrates that narrow dispersity copolymers are not required for periodic nanoscale assembly. 相似文献

In this work, we present a study of the influence of the protein matrix on its ability to tune the binding of small ligands such as NO, cyanide (CN(-)), and histamine to the ferric heme iron center in the NO-storage and -transport protein Nitrophorin 2 (NP2) from the salivary glands of the blood-sucking insect Rhodnius prolixus. Conventional M?ssbauer spectroscopy shows a diamagnetic ground state of the NP2-NO complex and Type I and II electronic ground states of the NP2-CN(-) and NP2-histamine complex, respectively. The change in the vibrational signature of the protein upon ligand binding has been monitored by Nuclear Inelastic Scattering (NIS), also called Nuclear Resonant Vibrational Spectroscopy (NRVS). The NIS data thus obtained have also been calculated by quantum mechanical (QM) density functional theory (DFT) coupled with molecular mechanics (MM) methods. The calculations presented here show that the heme ruffling in NP2 is a consequence of the interaction with the protein matrix. Structure optimizations of the heme and its ligands with DFT retain the characteristic saddling and ruffling only if the protein matrix is taken into account. Furthermore, simulations of the NIS data by QM/MM calculations suggest that the pH dependence of the binding of NO, but not of CN(-) and histamine, might be a consequence of the protonation state of the heme carboxyls. 相似文献

Appending an amine to a C═C double bond drastically increases the nucleophilicity of the β-carbon atom of the alkene to form an enamine. In this report, we present the synthesis and characterization of a novel CF(3)-ONO(3-) trianionic pincer-type ligand, rationally designed to mimic enamines within a metal coordination sphere. Presented is a synthetic strategy to create enhanced nucleophilic tungsten-alkylidene and -alkylidyne complexes. Specifically, we present the synthesis and characterization of the new CF(3)-ONO(3-) trianionic pincer tungsten-alkylidene [CF(3)-ONO]W═CH(Et)(O(t)Bu) (2) and -alkylidyne {MePPh(3)}{[CF(3)-ONO]W≡C(Et)(O(t)Bu)} (3) complexes. Characterization involves a combination of multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, combustion analysis, DFT computations, and single crystal X-ray analysis for complexes 2 and 3. Exhibiting unique nucleophilic reactivity, 3 reacts with MeOTf to yield [CF(3)-ONO]W═C(Me)(Et)(O(t)Bu) (4), but the bulkier Me(3)SiOTf silylates the tert-butoxide, which subsequently undergoes isobutylene expulsion to form [CF(3)-ONO]W═CH(Et)(OSiMe(3)) (5). A DFT calculation performed on a model complex of 3, namely, [CF(3)-ONO]W≡C(Et)(O(t)Bu) (3'), reveals the amide participates in an enamine-type bonding combination. For complex 2, the Lewis acids MeOTf, Me(3)SiOTf, and B(C(6)F(5))(3) catalyze isobutylene expulsion to yield the tungsten-oxo complex [CF(3)-ONO]W(O)((n)Pr) (6). 相似文献

The observation of biological activity in solvent-free protein-polymer surfactant hybrids challenges the view of aqueous and nonaqueous solvents being unique promoters of protein dynamics linked to function. Here, we combine elastic incoherent neutron scattering and specific deuterium labeling to separately study protein and polymer motions in solvent-free hybrids. Myoglobin motions within the hybrid are found to closely resemble those of a hydrated protein, and motions of the polymer surfactant coating are similar to those of the hydration water, leading to the conclusion that the polymer surfactant coating plasticizes protein structures in a way similar to hydration water. 相似文献
