Brittle-coating-patterns evaluation

Usual interpretation of brittle-coating patterns may be erroneous in cases when two large compressive stresses are present. This note deals with a study of the mechanism of the coating cracking under those conditions. An example illustrating the situation is given.     

Lueders' lines detection by means of brittle coatings

The objective of this paper is to compare some of the techniques used to detect Lueders' lines and present the results of a more extensive study using the brittle-coating method. A hot-rolled steel tensile specimen was yielded plastically under successively higher amounts of load and the resulting Lueders' lines were recored using oblique-incident light, etching, photoelastic coatings and brittle coatings. When the results from the various methods were compared, the authors found some advantages in the use of brittle coatings. This method was then used to record the Lueder's lines in beams under pure bending and simple bending, and in plates with notches and holes.     

Moiré fringes as parametric curves

Advantage is taken in this paper of the parametric properties of families of curves to express in a simple manner several fundamental properties of moiré fringes. Attention is called, in particular, to the necessary limitations on the angle of rotation of two gratings, and on the magnitude of their difference in pitch, to obtain an easily interpretable moiré-fringe pattern.     

Various forms of the strain-displacement relations applied to experimental strain analysis

The purpose of this paper is to present the strain-displacement relations in a general way and to develop modified forms for three special cases which have application in experimental strain analysis:

Copper and iron interactions with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. A study by fast-atom bombardment tandem mass spectrometry

Fast atom bombardment, combined with high-energy collision-induced tandem mass spectrometry, has been used to investigate gas-phase metal-ion interactions with captopril, enalaprilat and lisinopril, all angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.Suggestions for the location of metal-binding sites are presented. For captopril, metal binding occurs most likely at both the sulphur and the nitrogen atom. For enalaprilat and lisinopril, binding preferably occurs at the amine nitrogen.
