Skew Disperson and Continuity of Local Time

Results are provided that highlight the effect of interfacial discontinuities in the diffusion coefficient on the behavior of certain basic functionals of the diffusion, such as local times and occupation times, extending previous results in (Appuhamillage et al., Ann Appl Probab 21:183–214, 2011; Water Resour Res 46:W07511, 2009) on the behavior of first passage times. The main goal is to obtain a characterization of large scale parameters and behavior by an analysis at the fine scale of stochastic particle motions. In particular, considering particle concentration modeled by a diffusion equation with piecewise constant diffusion coefficient, it is shown that the continuity of a natural modification of local time is the individual (stochastic) particle scale equivalent to continuity of flux at the scale of the (macroscopic) particle concentrations. Consequences of this involve the determination of a skewness transmission probability in the presence of an interface, as well as corollaries concerning interfacial effects on occupation time of the associated stochastic particles.     

Crystal structure,DFT study,and Hirshfeld surface analysis of ethyl 5-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-7-methyl-3-phenyl-5<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-thiazolo[ 3,2-A]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate

The structural characterization of fused thiazolopyrimidine 1 (C₂₄H₂₄N₂O₄S) is performed using the single crystal X-ray study, the DFT calculation, and the Hirshfeld surface analysis. The molecular packing of the crystal is mainly stabilized by C–H…O and C–H…π interactions. A DFT calculated HOMO-LUMO energy gap of 3.90 eV indicates a high kinetic stability of the compound. The 3D Hirshfeld surfaces and the associated 2D fingerprint plots are investigated for short contact interactions. The relative contribution of different interactions to the Hirshfeld surface indicates that the H…H, C…H, and O…H contacts account for about 83.4% of the total Hirshfeld surface area.     

Sensitivity enhancement in saturation transfer difference (STD) experiments through optimized excitation schemes

Investigation of ligand-protein interactions by the saturation transfer difference (STD) experiment has been well established in the drug discovery process through numerous examples. Thus, binding epitopes may be mapped by comparing signals of the ligand with and without saturation of the protein. Herein, it is shown that a less selective process allows more protons to assist in the saturation of the protein, thereby considerably enhancing the sensitivity of the STD experiment. Increasing the saturation power entails a greater risk of perturbing the ligand; however, an amplitude modulation of the waveform assists this procedure by distributing the applied energy in sidebands.

New synthesis of 3,5-disubstituted-5H-thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine via ring annulation of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-thione using alkynyl(aryl)iodonium salts

A transition metal-free protocol for the synthesis of biologically active thiazolo[3,2-a]pyrimidine derivatives has been achieved by the cyclocondensation of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-thiones with alkynyl(aryl)iodonium tosylates. This reaction demonstrates another useful application of alkynyl(aryl)iodonium tosylates as synthon of alkynyl cation.     

Effect of Hg addition on synthesis of Bi-based superconductors

We have investigated the effect of Hg addition on the superconducting properties of BiSrCaCuO system. Polycrystalline samples with nominal composition Bi₂Sr_2−xHg_xCa₁Cu₂O_y and Bi₂Sr_2−xHg_xCa₂Cu₃O_y (x=0.3) were synthesized and used to investigate the phase evolution by XRD, superconducting behaviour by R–T measurement and the structural grain boundary effects by SEM. From these measurements, it has been noticed that the phases obtained with both types of compositions are the same as Bi2212 but the T_c values are different. With additional annealing, T_{c zero} values were raised from 60 to 72 K in Bi₂Sr_2−xHg_xCa₁Cu₂O_y and 64 to 92 K in Bi₂Sr_2−xHg_xCa₂Cu₃O_y. Also, an improved grain boundary linkage has been observed by SEM for the 92 K sample.     

HgO-added YB<Subscript>a2</Subscript>Cu<Subscript>3</Subscript>O<Subscript>7</Subscript>−δ superconductors

The HgO-added YB_a2Cu₃O_7−δ (YBCO) superconductor has been studied for its structural and superconducting properties. Polycrystalline YBCO samples were synthesized through solid-state reaction method by adding HgO in different concentrations without using oxygen annealing. All the samples showed a sharp superconducting transition temperature around 90 K. The X-ray diffraction patterns of all the samples revealed monophasic Y-123 nature. The structural studies were carried out by neutron scattering and Rietveld analysis. The neutron scattering revealed that Hg is not incorporated in the Y-123 system and has shown optimum oxygen concentration. The significant role played by the HgO is to provide oxygen ambient through its decomposition, thus changing the oxygen balance in favour of high Cu-valence state.
