Fluorescence of metal complexes of 8-hydroxyquinoline derivatives in aqueous micellar media

The fluorescence characteristics of 8-hydroxyquinoline derivative complexes of A1(III), Ga(III), In(III), Zn(II), and Be(II) in differently charged micellar media are reported. For most of the chelates studied, large increases are observed in micellar media compared with those obtained in hydroorganic solvents. However, some exceptions are observed, of which the low fluorescence of Zn(II) chelates in anionic sodium lauryl sulfate media is the most noticeable.     

Scaling probability, key to the equilibrium statistical volume distribution in foams

The equilibrium statistical volume distribution in foams, which has been previously demonstrated to be the so-called log-normal, is accounted on probability grounds by a scaling law on the bubble's volume time-evolution. This law states that the conditional probability for a given bubble to have the volume v(t + Δt), he assumption that it was v(t), to depend solely on the relationship v(t + Δt)/v(t), and in particular, to be independent of the time t. The theoretical results, however, allow to go further. Indeed, since the time dependece of its parameters (expectation and variance) are given functions of time, only two parameters are necessary to describe completely the foam.     

In-trees and plane embeddings of outerplanar graphs

A notion of anin-tree is introduced. It is then used to characterize and count plane embeddings of outerplanar graphs. In-trees have also been applied in the study of independent vertex covers of faces in outerplanar graphs.This research was partially supported by the grant RP.I.09, from the Institute of Informatics, University of Warsaw. Buyer-seller exactness in the assignment game

In the assignment game framework, we try to identify those assignment matrices in which no entry can be increased without changing the core of the game. These games will be called buyer-seller exact games and satisfy the condition that each mixed-pair coalition attains the corresponding matrix entry in the core of the game. For a given assignment game, a unique buyer-seller exact assignment game with the same core is proved to exist. In order to identify this matrix and to provide a characterization of those assignment games which are buyer-seller exact in terms of the assignment matrix, attainable upper and lower core bounds for the mixed-pair coalitions are found. As a consequence, an open question posed in Quint (1991) regarding a canonical representation of a “45^o-lattice” by means of the core of an assignment game can now be answered. De Rham and Infinitesimal Cohomology in Kapranov's Model for Non commutative Algebraic Geometry

The title refers to the nilcommutative or NC-schemes introduced by M. Kapranov in Noncommutative Geometry Based on Commutator Expansions, J. Reine Angew. Math 505 (1998) 73–118. The latter are noncommutative nilpotent thickenings of commutative schemes. We also consider the parallel theory of nil-Poisson or NP-schemes, which are nilpotent thickenings of commutative schemes in the category of Poisson schemes. We study several variants of de Rham cohomology for NC- and NP-schemes. The variants include nilcommutative and nil-Poisson versions of the de Rham complex as well as of the cohomology of the infinitesimal site introduced by Grothendieck in Crystals and the de Rham Cohomology of Schemes, Dix exposés sur la cohomologie des schémas, Masson, Paris (1968), pp. 306–358. It turns out that each of these noncommutative variants admits a kind of Hodge decomposition which allows one to express the cohomology groups of a noncommutative scheme Y as a sum of copies of the usual (de Rham, infinitesimal) cohomology groups of the underlying commutative scheme X (Theorems 6.1, 6.4, 6.7). As a byproduct we obtain new proofs for classical results of Grothendieck (Corollary 6.2) and of Feigin and Tsygan (Corollary 6.8) on the relation between de Rham and infinitesimal cohomology and between the latter and periodic cyclic homology.     

Polynomial Stability to Three-Dimensional Magnetoelastic Waves

In this work we show that the energy associated to the linear three-dimensional magneto-elastic system decays polynomially to zero as time goes to infinity, provided the initial data is smooth enough.     

An algorithm to locate perinatal facilities in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro

In order to reduce infant mortality in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro it is desired to encourage all mothers-to-be to attend the appropriate health care facilities. A 3-level hierarchical prenatal–neonatal health care system is described together with a basic model for optimising accessibility to facilities. A genetic algorithm to solve the basic model is developed and some numerical experience reported. Extensions to the basic model and planned future research are briefly indicated.     

On coherent states for the simplest quantum groups

The coherent states for the simplest quantum groups (q-Heisenberg-Weyl, SU _q (2) and the discrete series of representations of SU _q (1, 1)) are introduced and their properties investigated. The corresponding analytic representations, path integrals, and q-deformation of Berezin's quantization on , a sphere, and the Lobatchevsky plane are discussed.
