Measurement of atmospheric neutrino flux consistent with tau neutrino appearance

A search for the appearance of tau neutrinos from nu(mu) <--> nu(tau) oscillations in the atmospheric neutrinos has been performed using 1489.2 days of atmospheric neutrino data from the Super-Kamiokande-I experiment. A best fit tau neutrino appearance signal of 138+/-48(stat)-32(+15)(syst) events is obtained with an expectation of 78+/-26(syst). The hypothesis of no tau neutrino appearance is disfavored by 2.4 sigma.     

Heavy fourth-generation neutrino and flavour-changing neutral currents

We study the flavour-changing neutral currents in the case that the fourth-generation neutrino exists and the known three left-handed neutrino masses are at the experimental limits of the direct measurements. The fourth-generation neutrino has the mass of order a few ten GeV and the flavour-changing processes of the heavy neutrinos are expected to be observed onZ ⁰ ine ⁺ e ^? collisions. The heavy fourth-generation neutrino is significant to reveal the nature of the neutrino; Dirac or Majorana, the see-saw mechanism and the right-handed scale.     

HPLC analysis of manno-oligosaccharides derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae mannan using an amino column or a graphitized carbon column

The chromatographic behavior of manno-oligosaccharides derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae mannan on two kinds of HPLC columns, an aminopropyl-silica column or a graphitized carbon column (GCC), was investigated. The order of elution of manno-oligosaccharides on both columns with acetonitrile-water was almost the same, that is, the retention increased with increasing molecular size. However, the GCC made it possible to isolate completely two isomers of mannotrioses (M(3)-1 and M(3)-2) with different linkage positions. We reinvestigated the structures of mannobiose (M(2)), M(3)s, and mannotetraose (M(4)) that were completely isolated by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) and NMR spectroscopy.     

Hydride abstraction and regioselective insertion reaction at β C-H bond of alkyllithium by ethyl(phenylthio)methylene carbenoid

Study on the reaction of alkyllithium with 1-chloropropyl phenyl sulfide showed two novel reactions, the regioselective insertion and the hydride abstraction, at the β C-H bond of alkyllithium by ethyl(phenylthio)methylene carbenoid.
