Molecular and crystal structures of hemigossypolone and gossypolone

The results are given of an x-ray structural investigation of hemigossypolone isolated from the stems of a wiltinfected cotton plant and of gossypolone obtained by oxidizing gossypol.     

Alkylation of some 6-substituted purines under interphase catalysis conditions

The mixture of 9-, 3-, and 7-benzyl-6-substituted purines is formed in almost quantitative yield by the alkylation of 6-benzylamino-, 6-furfurylamino-, 6-methylthio-, and 6-chloropurine with benzyl halides in the biphasic system of the liquid-liquid or liquid-solid type in the presence of interphase catalysts (quaternary ammonium salts, 18-crown-6). The catalytic activity of the quaternary ammonium salts increases with the increase in the lipophilicity of the cation. Taking the alkylation of 6-benzylaminopurine as an example, the possibility of the application of triphasic catalysis in the alkylation reaction of purines is indicated. The alkylation of 6-substituted purines with isopropyl bromide proceeds regioselectively under the conditions of the interphase catalysis with the formation of the corresponding 9-isopropylpurines.For the preliminary communication, see [1].Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 1, pp. 113–118, January, 1987.     

Liquid-liquid extraction of cadmium(II) from aqueous thiocyanate solutions with liquid anion-exchangers

An investigation has been made on the system liquid anion-exchanger-Cd(II)-NCS⁻. The influence of the acidity and thiocyanate concentration of the aqueous phase on the extraction has been studied. Using various methods of analysis, it has been shown that the complex anion present in the organic extracts is Cd(NCS) ₄ ²⁻ . Details are given concerning the removal of traces of Zn(II) from Cd(II)-containing solutions, and the quantitative separation of Cd(II) from Cr(III).     

On the biological importance of the hydrogen bond breaking potency of fluorocarbons

Fluorocarbons containing higher halogens have the potency of breaking certain hydrogen bonds in solutions. The relative strength of this potency varies in the series F < Cl < Br < I and the presence of hydrogen atoms in the fluorocarbon increases it. There is a striking parallelism between the hydrogen bond breaking and the anaesthetic potency of these molecules. It is suggested that the breaking of hydrogen bonds is an important step in the mechanism of anaesthesia.     

Flow-Injection Determination of Benzylpenicillin Novocaine Salt in Penicillin Preparations with Spectrophotometric Detection

Working conditions were found for determining the novocaine salt of benzylpenicillin antibiotic as its 4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxan derivative by flow-injection analysis with spectrophotometric detection ( = 510 nm). The best results were obtained for flows of methanol (ethanol) and water with a volume ratio of 30 : 70. The calibration range of the pharmaceutical is 0.28–10 g/mL with a throughput capacity of 30 samples/h. The limit of detection (3, n= 4) is 0.14 g/mL. Amino acids and components of penicillin-containing pharmaceuticals did not interfere with the determination. Claisen rearrangement taking place in the mass spectrometer

Conclusions The Claisen rearrangement of bucharaine and of the aldehyde bucharainal takes place under the conditions of mass spectrometry. Tribological properties of polytetrafluoroethylene modified with fullerene black in dry sliding friction

The effect of fullerene black introduced (after extraction of light fullerenes from the black with toluene) into polytetrafluoroethylene F-4 on its wear resistance and antifriction properties in sliding over steel at contact pressures in the range 0.2–2.0 MPa was studied.
