Analysis of regularizing properties of nonlinear electrodynamics in the Einstein-Born-Infeld theory

New regularizing manifestations of the Einstein-Born-Infeld theory for a massive charged force center in the space-time are considered. The properties of isotropic geodesics in this space are analyzed. It is shown that the charge may exceed the maximum possible charge in the Reissner-Nordström solution; the possibility of eliminating one of the metric horizons is also noted.     

The modulated magnetic structure of α-Fe2O3: Ga weak ferromagnet

The domain structure of a diluted weak α-Fe₂O₃: Ga ferromagnet is considered. Magnetic fields of specific amplitudes and orientations applied in the basal plane of the crystal are found to produce nonuniform magnetic states due to a periodic deviation of the antiferromagnetic vector from the easy axis of crystallographic anisotropy. A phase diagram of the modulated magnetic state with the triad axis is constructed, and a dependence of the spatial period of modulation on an external magnetic field is studied. A phenomenological model and the nature of the magnetic superstructure discovered are discussed.     

Two-particle dispersion in model two-dimensional velocity fields

We consider two-particle dispersion in a velocity field, where the relative two-point velocity scales according to v ²(r) ∝r ^α and the corresponding correlation time scales as τ(r) ∝r ^β, and fix α = 2/3, as typical for turbulent flows. We show that two generic types of dispersion behavior arize: For α/2 + β < 1 the correlations in relative velocities decouple and the diffusion approximation holds. In the opposite case, α/2 + β > 1, the relative motion is strongly correlated. The case of Kolmogorov flows corresponds to a marginal, nongeneric situation. In this case, depending on the particular parameters of the flow, the dispersion behavior can be rather diffusive or rather ballistic. Received 13 March 2001

Error Analysis of a Projection Method for the Navier–Stokes Equations With Coriolis Force

In this paper a projection method for the Navier–Stokes equations with Coriolis force is considered. This time-stepping algorithm takes into account the Coriolis terms both on prediction and correction steps. We study the accuracy of its semi-discretized form and show that the velocity is weakly first-order approximation and the pressure is weakly order \frac12\frac{1}{2} approximation.
