A New Oligomer Photosemiconductor Containing Anthracenyl Groups

The photothermoplastic oligomer 1-OAGE containing unsymmetrical anthracene chromophore units has been synthesized. It possesses improved ability to form complexes with charge transfer to electron acceptors and improved information properties in comparison with the symmetrical analog 9-OAGE.     

Pseudo-non-contact AFM imaging?

Recent non-contact atomic force microscopy studies have demonstrated that imaging of single atom defects is possible. However, the imaging mechanism was unclear. Long-range forces of attraction, which are normally associated with non-contact mode, are not known to produce sufficient lateral resolution to image atoms. In this study, we suggest a mechanism that could be responsible for the resolution achieved. We use realistic interatomic interaction parameters to do numerical simulations. These simulations are in good agreement with experimental data. As a result, we are able to ‘separate' the attractive and repulsive forces acting between the AFM tip and the sample surface. Calculations indicate that the force responsible for image contrast in the experimental studies mentioned above, is in most cases the repulsive contact force, and not the long-range attractive force. We check our conclusions against a variety of interatomic interaction parameters and our results remain valid for any reasonable set of such parameters, including the power law of the attractive potential N<9.

The whole array of organic and inorganic nanoparticles, from fullerenes and carbon nanotubes to metals and metal oxides, is discussed in terms of chirality and its stereochemical consequences on the basis of the unified “core-shell” concept.     

Features of Radical Polymerization of Vinyl Chloride in the Presence of Nitroxyl Radicals

Radical polymerization of vinyl chloride in the presence of C-phenyl-N-tert-butylnitrone, 2-meth- yl-2-nitrosopropane, and 1-tert-butyl-3-phenyl-1-oxytriazene as potential sources of free radicals was studied.     

Generation of second and third harmonics by a rotating pulsar in parametrized post-Maxwellian electrodynamics

We consider the generation of multiple harmonics by a rotating pulsar in parametrized post-Maxwellian electrodynamics, and evaluate angular distributions of the emission intensity and conversion ratios for emission at a doubled or tripled pulsar rotation frequency.     

Stereochemistry of the hydrogenolysis of 1,2-disubstituted ferrocenes in acid media

Conclusions The catalytic hydrogenolysis of enantioimeric 1,2-disubstituted ferrocenes in H₂ at 1 atra over Pd/C in CF₃]CO₂H at 50°C leads predominantly to the trans isomers of the corresponding 1,2-disubstituted cyclopentanes; optical activity is lost.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 11, pp. 2600–2603, November, 1986.

3-Substituted 2-trifluoromethylimidazo [1,2-a] pyridines

3-Fluoro-2-trifluoromethylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines were obtained by reactions of hexafluoroacetone 2-pyridylimines with trimethyl phosphite and studied in reactions with sodium methoxide. This gave the corresponding 3-methoxy-2-trifluoromethylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines.
