Optical second-harmonic generation is investigated in free-standing (110) porous silicon films having strong in-plane birefringence. Based on the measured values of the refractive indices, the conditions of phase matching are calculated and verified in the experiments on angular and polarization dependences of second-harmonic generation. Filling pores with a transparent dielectric liquid allows phase matching to be achieved and the second-harmonic signal to be increased by two orders of magnitude. The results of these experiments suggest an opportunity to form new-type nonlinear-optical media consisting of birefringent porous silicon as a phase-matching matrix for the materials embedded in the pores. Experiments on the generation of high optical harmonics demonstrating that relativistic regimes of interaction of radiation with matter can be implemented in the field of mid-infrared laser pulses with a peak power of 0.3 TW have been reported. The observation of relativistic phenomena at such extraordinary low peak powers of the laser field becomes possible because of the formation of a high-quality space-time mode of the laser field with an exactly specified polarization state. Such a field structure ensures a high intensity of radiation in the focus of the beam and the effective acceleration of electrons by a low-frequency electromagnetic field of a high-contrast laser pulse with an exactly specified polarization at the extremely sharp vacuum-solid interface.

DNA-Binding HU proteins are essential for the maintenance of genomic DNA supercoiling and compaction in prokaryotic cells and are promising pharmacological targets for the design of new antibacterial agents. The virtual screening for low-molecular-weight compounds capable of specifically interacting with the DNA-recognition loop of the HU protein from the mycoplasma Spiroplasma melliferum was performed. The ability of the initially selected ligands to form stable complexes with the protein target was assessed by molecular dynamics simulation. One compound, which forms an unstable complex, was eliminated by means of a combination of computational methods, resulting in a decrease in the number of compounds that will pass to the experimental test phase. This approach can be used to solve a wide range of problems related to the search for and validation of low-molecular-weight inhibitors specific for a particular protein target.  相似文献

Analysis of the phase-matching integral for third-harmonic generation in focused laser beams shows that this process can be used as a method of 3D microscopy, allowing one to characterize the location and magnitude of inhomogeneities of linear and nonlinear optical characteristics of a medium. The potentialities of this method are illustrated by the results of experiments on 3D microscopy of an optical breakdown plasma.  相似文献

We demonstrate novel photonic-crystal fibers (PCFs) fabricated of a highly nonlinear glass. Dispersion profiles and nonlinearity of these fibers are tailored with an array of submicron holes in the fiber core. With the PCF structure designed to provide a nonlinearity on the order of 103 W−1 km−1 at the radiation wavelength of 1 μm and a fundamental-mode dispersion profile with zero group-velocity dispersion around 1.19 μm, unamplified femtosecond Cr: forsterite laser pulses are efficiently frequency-converted into the 540-1000-nm wavelength range through solitonic spectral-transformation mechanisms and four-wave mixing.  相似文献

The processes of third-harmonic and difference-frequency generation through the four-wave mixing of picosecond pulses in gas-filled hollow fibers are experimentally studied. Due to the improvement of phase-matching conditions with an appropriate choice of the gas pressure and optimal parameters of the hollow fiber, we were able to use hollow fibers with a large length (up to 30 cm) for difference-frequency generation, which resulted in a considerable increase in the power of the difference-frequency signal at the output of the fiber. Our experimental data reveal a considerable influence of high-order waveguide modes on four-wave mixing processes in a hollow fiber. It is shown that the waveguide regime of nonlinear optical interactions implemented in hollow fibers removes the limitations on the efficiency of third-harmonic and sum-frequency generation, which are characteristic of the tight-focusing regime in media with normal dispersion and which are due to the geometric phase shift arising in tightly focused light beams.  相似文献

We demonstrate time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) by using a frequency-tunable femtosecond soliton output of a silica photonic-crystal fiber (PCF) as a Stokes field. This approach allows quantum beats originating from two close Raman modes to be resolved in the time-domain CARS response. The nonresonant CARS background is efficiently suppressed by introducing a delay time between the probe pulse and the pump-Stokes pulse dyad, suggesting a convenient fiber-optic format for the Stokes source in time-resolved CARS and allowing sensitivity improvement in PCF-based CARS spectroscopes and microscopes.  相似文献

The modes guided in a ring system of microstructure-integrated fibers are shown to have much in common with electron wave functions in a two-dimensional polyatomic cyclic molecule. This photonic-molecule analogy provides, in particular, an illustrative and physically clear model of dispersion properties and the mode structure of an electromagnetic field in microstructure fibers of the considered type. A high degree of light confinement in waveguide modes of such a photonic molecule enhances nonlinear-optical processes, permitting an octave spectral broadening to be achieved for low-energy femtosecond laser pulses.  相似文献

Phase and polarization control of photochromism in the solid phase is experimentally demonstrated.
