Kirkwood–Buff (K–B) integrals play an important role in characterizing the properties and interactions of various liquid mixtures. However, there exists no method to calculate directly the K–B integrals from the easily available experimental data of ultrasonic velocity and density. An attempt has been made to evaluate the same using these initial parameters. A statistical mechanical theory advanced by Arakawa et al. has been used here, in combination with a semi-empirical formula to compute K–B parameters in the whole concentration range for six binary systems at atmospheric pressure and at 298.15 K. 相似文献

Recent research has shown that, like porphyrins, phycocyanin (PC) too can produce singlet oxygen upon excitation with the appropriate radiation and hence could be useful in photodynamic therapy (PDT) for cancer. Unlike porphyrins, PC has the advantage of being a non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, soluble protein. However, the challenge would be to target the fluorescent phycobiliprotein to malignant cells. We report here that the tumor-specific lectin, jacalin, binds PC specifically in a carbohydrate-independent manner and with affinities better than that for porphyrins. Hence the lectin could prove to be a useful carrier for targeted delivery of PC. The interaction involves both ionic and hydrophobic interactions and more than one contact site. 相似文献

Iron nitrides are attractive as they show excellent magnetic properties which can be utilized as recording and permanent magnetic materials for potential applications. Due to the high saturation magnetization and chemical stability, γ ′-Fe4N compound is widely investigated as a promising high density magnetic recording material. γ ′-Fe4N particles were synthesized by conventional gaseous nitriding in a heated atmosphere containing ammonia as a source of nitrogen. Energy migration and transfer from acriflavine to rhodamine B and malachite green in poly (methylmethacrylate) have been investigated using the decay function analysis. It is found that the influence of energy migration in energy transfer can be described quite convincingly by making use of the theories of Loring, Andersen and Fayer (LAF) and Huber. Immune response in a retrovirus system is modeled by a network of three binary cell elements to take into account some of the main functional features of T4 cells, T8 cells, and viruses. Binuclear copper(II) complexes of thiosemicarbazones derived from cuminaldehyde (p-isopropyl benzaldehyde) and substituted thiosemicarbazides NH2NHC(S)NHR, where R = H, Me, Et or Ph have been synthesized and characterized. The ESR indicates that the dissociation of dimeric
complex into mononuclear [Cu(L)Cl(DMSO)3] units in polar solvents like DMSO, where L = monoanionic thiosemicarbazone. The molecular ion peak in the LC-MS coincides
with the formula weight of the complexes. The absorption titration studies revealed that each of these complexes is an avid
binder to calf thymus-DNA. The apparent binding constants are in the order of 107–108 M−1. The nucleolytic cleavage activities of the ligands and their complexes were assayed on pUC18 plasmid DNA using gel electrophoresis
in the presence and absence of H2O2. The ligands showed increased nuclease activity when administered as copper complexes. All these copper(II) complexes behave
as an efficient chemical nucleases with hydrogen peroxide activation. These studies revealed that the complexes exhibit both
