Abstract We analyze the efficiency of the international management of the Bay of Biscay anchovy. While a sharing agreement between France and Spain has been in place since 1992, the fish stock collapsed in 2005 and the fishery closed from 2005 to spring 2010. We consider differences in production technologies between both countries and calibrate our model using data from 1987 to 2009. Our results suggest two sources of rent dissipation under the existing sharing agreement: inefficient quota allocation and production inefficiencies due to inflexible national regulations. We discuss several alternatives to improve management.  相似文献

Alloys of the composition Al98Fe2 have been prepared by rapid quenching from the melt and mechanical alloying methods and have been studied by Xray diffraction techniques and room temperature 57Fe Mössbauer effect methods. Results may be summarized as follows: The rapidly quenched sample is a single phase supersaturated fcc Al–Fe alloy. Mössbauer effect spectra indicate the presence of a substantially greater degree of Fe clustering than is expected for a random distribution of atoms on the lattice sites. Mechanically alloyed samples have been studied as a function of milling time and show the initial formation of a supersaturated fcc phase with microstructural properties which are quite similar to those of the rapidly quenched sample. Further milling results in the reduction of the average grain size and the formation of an amorphous phase. Mössbauer studies and previously reported phase diagrams suggest that a substantial fraction of the Fe resides in this phase.  相似文献

β-d-Xylosidase from Selenomonas ruminantium is revealed as the best catalyst known (k cat, k cat/K m) for promoting hydrolysis of 1,4-β-d-xylooligosaccharides. 1H nuclear magnetic resonance experiments indicate the family 43 glycoside hydrolase acts through an inversion mechanism on substrates 4-nitrophenyl-β-d-xylopyranoside (4NPX) and 1,4-β-d-xylobiose (X2). Progress curves of 4-nitrophenyl-β-d-xylobioside, xylotetraose and xylohexaose reactions indicate that one residue from the nonreducing end of substrate is cleaved per catalytic cycle without processivity. Values of k cat and k cat/K m decrease for xylooligosaccharides longer than X2, illustrating the importance to catalysis of subsites −1 and +1 and the lack there of subsite +2. Homology models of the enzyme active site with docked substrates show that subsites bey ond−1 are blocked by protein and subsites bey ond +1 are not formed; they suggest that D14 and E186 serve catalysis as general base and general acid, respectively. Individual mutations, D14A and E186A, erode k cat and k cat/K m by <103 and to asimilar extent for substrates 4NPX and 4-nitrophenyl-α-l-arabinofuranoside (4NPA), indicating that the two substrates share the same active site. With 4NPX and 4NPA, pH governs k cat/K m with pK a values of 5.0 and 7.0 assigned to D14 and E186, respectively. k cat (4NPX) has a pK a value of 7.0 and k cat (4NPA) is pH independent above pH 4.0, suggesting that the catalytically inactive, “dianionic” enzyme form (D14-E187-) binds 4NPX but not 4NPA. A newly developed interface coupling a CHN combustion device (elemental analyser 'EA') to an isotope ratio mass spectrometer is described and evaluated. The purpose of the device is to extend the dynamic range of delta(13)C and delta(15)N analysis from less than 2 orders of magnitude to more than 3 orders of magnitude. Carbon isotope ratio measurements of atropine as a model compound have been performed analysing between 1 μg to 5 mg C with acceptable to excellent precision (0.6 to 0.06 per thousand, delta-notation). The correction due to the blank signal is critical for sample amounts smaller than 4 μg C. The maximum sample weight is determined by the combustion capacity of the EA. Larger sample amounts are measured using dilution of a small part of the EA effluent with helium. The dilution mechanism works virtually free of isotope fractionation. Molecular dipole moments of analytic density-functional theory are investigated. The effect of element-dependent exchange potentials on these moments are examined by comparison with conventional quantum-chemical methods and experiment for the subset of the extended G2 set of molecules that have nonzero dipole moment. Fitting the Kohn-Sham [Phys. Rev. 140, A1133 (1965)] potential itself makes a mean absolute error of less than 0.1 D. Variation of alpha (Slater's [Phys. Rev. 81, 385 (1951)] exchange parameter) values has far less effect on dipole moments than on energies. It is argued that in variable alpha methods one should choose the smaller of the two rather than the geometric mean of the two alpha values for the heteroatomic part of the linear-combination-atomic-orbital density. Calculations on the dipole moment of NH(2)(CH)(24)NO(2) are consistent with earlier calculations and show that varying the differences between alpha values for atoms with different atomic numbers has only short-ranged electrostatic effects.  相似文献

This article reports on the synthesis of thermosensitive polymer brushes on silica nanoparticles by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and the study of thermo-induced phase transitions in water. Silica nanoparticles were prepared by the St?ber process and the surface was functionalized by an ATRP initiator. Surface-initiated ATRPs of methoxydi(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (DEGMMA) and methoxytri(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (TEGMMA) were carried out in THF at 40 degrees C in the presence of a free initiator, benzyl 2-bromoisobutyrate. The polymerizations were monitored by 1H NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography. The hairy hybrid nanoparticles were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy, and the thermoresponsive properties were investigated by variable temperature 1H NMR spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering. The cloud points of free poly(DEGMMA) and poly(TEGMMA) in water were around 25 and 48 degrees C, respectively. The thermo-induced phase transitions of polymer brushes on silica nanoparticles began at a lower temperature and continued over a broader range (4-10 degrees C) than those of free polymers in water (< 2 degrees C).  相似文献
