Organoinorganic composites based on tetraethoxysilane and nitrogen polybases

Hybrid organoinorganic composites insoluble in water and organic solvents were prepared by the hydrolysis of tetraethoxysilane in the presence of poly-1-vinylpyrazole, poly-1-vinylimidazole, and poly-4-vinylpyridine. The composition of the composites was determined by the nature of the polymeric nitrogen base and hydrolysis conditions. The composites synthesized showed high sorption activity in the extraction of the [PdCl₄]^2?, [PtCl₆]^2?, and [AuCl₄]^? ions from hydrochloric acid solutions.

Dehydrogenation of propane on aluminoplatinum catalysts modified with Re,Zr, Sc,and Sn

The effect of addition of Re, Zr, Sc, and Sn on an aluminoplatinum catalyst in the reaction of dehydrogenation of propane was investigated. It was shown that addition of 0.2–0.5% Zr, Sc, or Re virtually does not alter the catalytic properties of the aluminoplatinum catalyst (APC); addition of 0.2% Sn increases the activity, selectivity, and stability of Pt/Al₂O₃. The amount of coke deposited on the APC after the first 5 min of work decreases by three times in the presence of Sn. Simulating the diffraction pattern in the focal plane of a lens-axicon system

Laser beam concentration into a narrow ring with a lens and axicon is considered, as there are applications in working surfaces, cutting wafers and slices, and in welding or soldering tubes to heat-exchanger plates. A model is constructed and a working formula is derived for the diffraction pattern in the focal plane of such a system when the axicon is illuminated by a plane wave. Gallium arsenide avalanche-type S-diode based on a n+-π-ν-n structure

The results are presented of an investigation of the electrical characteristics of avalanche S-diodes based on a new type of structure (⁺---n), which is obtained by diffusing iron in GaAs with n = 1.10¹⁷ cm^–3. The diodes have regions of S-type negative differential resistance (NDR), for both bias polarities and have a number of other features by comparison with diodes based on the --n structures with fused contacts. On the mechanical power transfer and unit-cell averaged energy-current density in general lattices

An elementary derivation is giveni) for the power transfer in a general system of coupled masses within the framework of classical mechanics andii) for the instantaneous energy-current density which is defined as an average over each unit celln. As a first application of these general expressions, it is shown for lattice waves in a general periodic harmonic lattice that the time average of the mentioned energy-current density is equal to the mean energy density times the group velocity.     

Embedded cluster calculation of the Ce3+ impurity in Lu2SiO5 crystals including crystal lattice relaxation and polarization

Results of electronic structure studies of the Ce³⁺ impurity in Lu₂SiO₅ crystals allowing for lattice polarization and relaxation are given. The calculations were performed by the embedded cluster method combining the scattered wave and molecular static methods. The effect of lattice deformation induced by the defect on the results of calculations is discussed. Spin-spin coupling of77Se and31P nuclei in cyclic organophosphorous compounds

Catalytic Oxidation (4th World Congress on Oxidation Catalysis, Potsdam, Germany, September 2001)

This paper presents an overview of the plenary lectures and some of the oral and poster presentations at the 4th International Congress on Oxidation Catalysis in Potsdam (Germany). The main topics were the partial oxidation of alkanes and the oxidation of olefins by H₂O₂. Considerable attention is given to the use of modern physical methods in the mechanistic studies of oxidation catalysis and in the studies of catalyst structures.
