Bubbly flow undergoing a steep pressure gradient   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The effects of a steep pressure gradient on bubbly flow were studied to determine the cause of noise emanating from components of a piping system. We used an orifice to generate a local pressure difference. The behavior of bubbles passing through the orifice was observed by using a video camera, and the noise was measured by a condenser microphone outside the pipe. It was found that the sound pressure level of noise generated by a bubbly flow was proportional to the pressure difference. An empirical formula for estimating noise level is proposed. The changes in size and number of bubbles passing through an orifice were found related to the breakup, which is affected by pressure difference rather than airflow rate. The breakup of a single bubble undergoing a steep pressure difference was observed to determine the mechanism of sound generation. It was found that a bubble was broken by impingement of an inward protrusion in the bubble. The growth rate of the protrusion depended on the pressure difference.  相似文献

Coupled buoyancy (Bénard) and thermocapillary (Marangoni) convection in a thin fluid layer of a viscoelastic fluid are studied. The viscoelastic fluid is modeled by Jeffreys' constitutive equation. The lower surface of the layer is in contact with a rigid heat-conducting plate while its upper surface is subject to a temperature-dependent surface tension. The critical temperature difference between both boundaries corresponding to the onset of convection is calculated. The role of the various viscometric coefficients is discussed. In the appendix it is shown that Jeffreys' constitutive relation is easily derived from thermodynamic considerations based on extended irreversible thermodynamics.  相似文献

The present analysis is an attempt to determine the portion of a rectangular slab that is acting with its two parallel stiffening edge beams, through which prestressing loads are applied to the entire section, in resisting load. Employing the well known theories of bending of plates and beams, the constitutive equations governing the behaviour of this type of composite system are presented. In particular, the equation of compatibility of strains between the slab edges and the stiffening edge beams at their junctions is formulated. In doing this, the biaxial nature of the bending of the edge beams, ignored in earlier formulations [1], has been incorporated. The results of the present analysis show that, under transverse loading, the portion of the slab, called the effectiv width, that can be considered effective as a part of each of the stiffening edge beams in determining stresses and deflexions is not significantly different from that obtained for an unprestressed section or a simply reinforced section. The effective width of the slab when such a section is subjected to only prestressing loads however shows a significant difference. We conclude from this that a single table of effective widths could be adopted for design purposes when considering transverse bending of this type of composite system whether the section is prestressed or not. Typical stress distributions due to (i) prestress alone, (ii) transverse loading alone and (ii) combined prestress and transverse loading are presented to demonstrate that the present formulation is versatile enough to solve problems involving prestressed edge beams in this type of composite assembly.  相似文献

It is proposed to extend this concept to a more general type of symmetry transformation, and the use of such an extension is illustrated by using it to define several classes of materials and presenting the corresponding representation theorems.

In the present paper, we investigate the flow of a multicomponent, partially ionized gas mixture in the boundary layer around an impermeable surface; the state in the boundary layer being one of chemical equilibrium. As an example, the flow of partially ionized air about a sphere is considered. The chemical composition at every point of the boundary layer with running values of the pressure, temperature, and concentrations of the chemical elements was found by Newton's method, parallel with the integration of the fundamental system of nonself-similar differential equations by the curve-fitting method. Also discussed is another method of finding the composition, which is more economical from the point of view of expenditure of machine time. It is found that the dimensionless heat flux to the wall at the front critical point of the sphere can be 26% larger for constant concentrations of the chemical elements than it is for variable concentrations.Translated from Zhurnal Prikladnoi Mekhaniki i Tekhnicheskoi Fiziki, No. 3, pp. 53–59, May–June, 1972.The author thanks G. A very promising recent trend in applied quantum physics is to combine the advantageous features of different quantum systems into what is called “hybrid quantum technology”. One of the key elements in this new field will have to be a quantum memory enabling to store quanta over extended periods of time. Systems that may fulfill the demands of such applications are comb‐shaped spin ensembles coupled to a cavity. Due to the decoherence induced by the inhomogeneous ensemble broadening, the storage time of these quantum memories is, however, still rather limited. Here we demonstrate how to overcome this problem by burning well‐placed holes into the spectral spin density leading to spectacular performance in the multimode regime. Specifically, we show how an initial excitation of the ensemble leads to the emission of more than a hundred well‐separated photon pulses with a decay rate significantly below the fundamental limit of the recently proposed “cavity protection effect”.

A procedure is suggested here for reconstructing the time variation of a three-dimensional (3D) coherent velocity field, based on applying Least Square Method to a very limited number of phase-locked measurements. The measurements are performed in a spanwise plane of a forced turbulent mixing layer by employing the stereo particle image velocimetry system. The forcing is produced by oscillating two- and three-dimensional (3D) flappers placed at the edge of the splitter plate. The feasibility and validity of the procedure for velocity field reconstruction are checked by using Hot Wire Measurements. Very clear patterns are observed of two types of coherent structures: spanwise K-H billows (rolls) and streamwise vortices. These are due to primary and secondary instabilities and their time evolution is presented.  相似文献

This paper considers the effect the Reynolds number has on a turbulent boundary layer that is subjected to concentrated suction, applied through a short porous wall strip. The response of the skin friction coefficient to suction is strongly modulated by the momentum thickness Reynolds number R 0. The magnitude and wavelength of the variation of the skin friction decrease as R 0 increases. Measurements clearly show that it is the combination of R 0 and the suction rate that controls the boundary layer response. Relaminarisation of the near-wall flow, which occurs just downstream of the suction strip when =5.5 and R 0=660, could not be achieved at higher Reynolds numbers. It is suggested that the ratio R 0/ should not exceed a (as yet undetermined) critical value if pseudo-relaminarisation is to occur. The mean velocity profiles differ from the undisturbed profile for all the values of R 0 and considered here. Although the redistribution of the turbulent kinetic energy among the normal Reynolds stresses is affected by , a variation in R 0 does not appear to alter the effect of on this redistribution.  相似文献

A method is proposed to study the stress concentration around a shallow spheroidal crack in an infinite elastic body.
